Better Pic?

[edit]

The current picture is deeply unflattering. Couldn't this be improved...? 213.112.133.174 (talk) 15:14, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I came to the talk page to suggest this as well, but seeing as it's already been mentioned, I merely second it. The pic up now could easily be from one of the 10,000 zombie flicks released in the past years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rtelkin (talkcontribs) 00:38, 7 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia has very strict rules about what can be used as an image in an article – see Wikipedia:Image use policy. As a result, our hands are tied – unless and until somebody uploads a "better" fair-use image of Ferlito, we're stuck. --IJBall (contribstalk) 01:21, 7 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Revisiting portrait image (Dec. 2022)

[edit]

I worked directly with Vanessa to release this image for her page (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vanessa_Ferlito_Photoshoot.jpg). It is far better than the current photo which was taken over 15 years ago when she was pregnant.@IJBall Ross.matlin (talk) 18:48, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ross.matlin: I have no objection to including that image in the article somewhere, if it's meets the non-free use standards of Wikipedia. But it is not a better "portrait image" for the infobox, which should just be a headshot. And I doubt a crop of the image you are suggesting will be a better choice either. But, yeah – if the image can be used, add it elsewhere in the article. FWIW. --IJBall (contribstalk) 19:00, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

To the people claiming the 1980 birth date

[edit]

Can you provide reliable, independent sources for the date of birth and other information? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.35.161.105 (talk) 19:37, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Citation for 1977 birth year: https://familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3Avanessa%20%2Bsurname%3Aferlito~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.185.215.187 (talk) 01:35, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I see the birth date was yet again reverted back to 1980. Public records (listed above) and a 1998 magazine article (http://nymag.com/nymetro/nightlife/barsclubs/features/2937) support the 1977 birth year, not 1980. If the birth date is again reverted back to 1980, I am going to request the birth date be removed altogether. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.185.215.187 (talk) 04:57, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

tv.com says 1980, but that's as reliable as the "EDIT" button next to the "BIOGRAPHY" header. I suspect there may be an active campaign here to take three years off this aging actress's age. Wbm1058 (talk) 11:57, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently there is an edit war happening as someone again reverted the birth year back to 1980 without citing sources. Public records stat 1977. I'm going to ask that the birth date be removed or something because this is fricking ridiculous! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.185.215.187 (talk) 04:12, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fed up with the edit war regarding Vanessa's birth date. Can the birth date be removed altogether? Like what happened with Sofia Shinas Or can we go with the birth date supported by public documents? 72.185.215.187 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 05:18, June 23, 2015‎ (UTC)

This edit war has been going on for over a decade now. The initial May 18, 2004 version of the page said she was born in 1980, and the eleventh edit to the article, on May 11, 2005, changed it to 1977. Apparently it's been back and forth ever since. On the side of 1977, we have public records–which find very few people with the same name, and seem accurate (I looked myself up, and they have a surprising amount of detail)–and a 1998 New York magazine article. On the side of 1980, we have what seems like a major effort to get the date "published" on as many crowd-sourced sites as possible (though they seem to be having trouble getting IMDb to fall in line). A surprising dearth of biographical profiles of this actress, with an actual author's name attached to them. Wbm1058 (talk) 01:07, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The external link www.westlord.com/vanessa-ferlito-biography was previously included on the article. For whatever reason, it's a blacklisted link now, so cut & paste. Wbm1058 (talk) 01:19, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Wbm1058: As you're an Admin now, I just wanted to let you know that I've removed the birthdate from the article under WP:BLPPRIVACY. If this article's DOB issue has been problematic before, you may want to put it on your watchlist for a while, just to make sure the DOB edit warring doesn't flare up again... --IJBall (contribstalk) 03:55, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks for keeping an eye on this. Wbm1058 (talk) 17:24, 21 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

GRRRRR...Someone changed the damned birth date again. IMDb also uses 1977, as I am the one who gave them the correct information. Can we please lock this page or delete the birth date altogether? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.185.208.185 (talk) 03:13, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Done – DOB removed. A disruptive IP slipped that in there in early March, and it wasn't caught. Thanks for the head's up. --IJBall (contribstalk)
You're welcome. I removed the birth date from the side bar as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.185.208.185 (talk) 03:50, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
To anyone watching this page who happens to represent Ms. Ferlito:
  • You may find this of interest: Birth dates in biographies and California Law AB-1687 California Enacts Law Requiring IMDb to Remove Actor Ages on Request
  • We can use a more flattering photo if one is posted to Commons:Category:Vanessa Ferlito. You just need to take the picture yourself and release it under the appropriate license. Unfortunately the picture we're using is the only one we have.
  • We can only publish a date of birth if one is published by a reliable source that verifies the date before publishing it. Since the age published by New York magazine has been challenged as an uncorrected error, we will settle for just not publishing a date of birth on Wikipedia.

As the long-term dispute over the birth date keeps coming back, and we don't have enough people watching this page to promptly verify and revert unreferenced changes, I'm putting this page under pending changes protection. – wbm1058 (talk) 02:39, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

About her son

[edit]

Vanessa Ferlito does have a son. The issue here is to find a reliable source. And from what I have read, Vanessa is very protective of her private life. I have found one source which confirms both the name and the birthdate, but there is a typo in the text as well. https://ecelebrityfacts.com/vanessa-ferlito

There is also a picture of her with her son here https://platzer-twinimages.photoshelter.com/image/I0000g7sBxRINNy0

There is another source here: http://www.tvovermind.com/ncis-new-orleans/ncis-new-orleans-getting-know-vanessa-ferlito-aka-tammy-gregorio But they seem to have used Wikipedia as a source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Skoen (talkcontribs) 10:36, 29 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

ecelebrityfacts.com states about themselves: "Any suggestion or feedback from our audiences will be highly appreciated; which after ample analysis ought to be used in providing viewers with contents they prefer." and "Readers can submit any celebrity related facts or stories, which they think should be brought into limelight." That almost certainly rules them out as a WP:RS as per WP:USERGENERATED. The source we have now is a WP:RS that at least confirms the general details. While a source that confirms the actual date-of-birth might be nice, at this point it's probably not 100% necessary. Another WP:RS source confirming a son vs. a daughter would be nice... Ah, found one [1]. --IJBall (contribstalk) 17:30, 29 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Subject

[edit]

Pinging IJBall,

What are you talking about. I literally just cited a branch owned by the University of Southampton in the lead section. DON'T YOU DARE tell me that isn't a reliable source. In case you are so stupid, heres the source again. [2]. I'm gonna be bold and add it again. Koridas (Heyyyyyyy) 16:26, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Koridas: You are ignoring the subject above this one. Why would the University of Southampton be a WP:RS source for her date of birth? Where are they getting that information from? Are they just webscraping it?! No, in this case – there are conflicting sources, and as was agreed in the subject above this one, we are keeping the DOB out on WP:BLPPRIVACY grounds. Don't just disruptively add it back unless you can demonstrate consensus for that here. --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:28, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
