Yes, that information is already in the article three times. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 01:19, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Artists4Ceasefire

[edit]

The inclusion of the Artists4Ceasefire petition, at least based on the source we are using, seems blatantly WP:UNDUE. Shawn is not mentioned separately in the article, he's just in a long list of all the names who signed the petition (an editor appears to be trying to put this trivia into the article of every person who signed.) We already have sufficient material showing his political leanings and involvement; this is not a signficant one. We do not need this article to be a list of every document he has ever signed. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 12:58, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not the original proponent, but this appears due to me. The addition to the article is proportionately brief. It's significance is not major, but also I don't think it can be considered "trivia." Although I have to concede I've never heard of this organization (not necessarily surprising) Shawn's involvement in the addition is through an apparently encyclopedically significant organization.
There is also some hyperbole here, as neither this addition nor the article generally purport to be "a list of every document he has ever signed."
@Discourseofcourse Following Nat Gertler's comment, I see that you are adding this to a number of other articles. Please do not tag these additions as "minor edits". Wikipedia has a specific definition for "minor edit" (it is not really a common sense definition either) -- only edits which do NOT change the substance of articles should be tagged as minor. JArthur1984 (talk) 13:20, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The problem went beyond the use of the minor checkbox. All of these additions were against the WP:ECR regarding the Israel/Gaza matters, as the poster was a new account. They have now been blocked due to these postings, and all of them undone... except for this one, which you restored. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 15:40, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh important point. That’s within the scope of Israel-Palestine requirements for sure and the editor should not have done so. I’ve got the requisite edits and will adopt the addition on this page as my own. JArthur1984 (talk) 16:02, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you're taking ownership of the edit, then you should be treating it as part of the WP:BRD cycle -- you boldly inserted it, we're reverted, and insteadf of discussion you are choosing to edit war it back in. Please revert your readdition and not readd it until you've had a discussion that leads to consensus. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 17:22, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Don’t think there’s any need for me to revert as our last interaction on this was weeks ago and I was in agreement with IP. I understand why you may not want to view IP as part of a consensus given that IP should not have been editing Israel-Palestine issues. No one other than us and IP have taken a stance. Shall we ask for a [[WP:3O]] to avoid deadlock on this issue? JArthur1984 (talk) 18:41, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, the IP doesn't count. You alone chose to edit war it in. Feel free to call for the third opinion, but revert your edit in the meantime. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 18:50, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On review, I see this was a new editor not an IP. Nonetheless, I agree that we remain third opinion eligible. I don't agree that it's necessary for me to revert, as we have been stable with this one sentence inclusion for a couple of weeks and I don't understand why you would say I am edit warring it in. Nonetheless, the third opinion has been opened and this is the only active disagreement on the list. I am optimistic we will get a 3O and therefore do not expect us to be deadlocked long. JArthur1984 (talk) 19:15, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, looking at the policy for WP:UNDUE, it seems that this is to me not providing anything that seems to be given undue weight. While I agree that the circumstances that got it into the article are suspect, considering that Artists4Ceasefire is, at the least, notable enough to have a Wikipedia page, it's worth mentioning under Shawn's political activity. Though considering there are three paragraphs about his views on conflict in the Gaza strip, it may be worth condensing these into one or two paragraphs, for the sake of brevity. Thanks for your third opinion and breaking this deadlock. JArthur1984 (talk) 00:35, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
