- William Maclay (Pennsylvania representative) → William Maclay (Pennsylvania representative, born 1765)
- William Smith (New York state senator) → William Smith (New York state senator, born 1720)
– Proposing to add birth dates for disambiguation. The first title is ambiguous with William Plunkett Maclay and the second is ambiguous with William T. Smith. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:51, 9 August 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. ModernDayTrilobite (talk • contribs) 13:37, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose as unnecessary WP:OVERPRECISION. There's only one other possibility for each of the 2 articles, so hatnotes solve the issue of the extremely rare reader who might be in the wrong place. Year of birth is highly unlikely to be helpful in these 2 cases, especially Maclay since they're only a few years apart. Station1 (talk) 19:08, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- This would not be WP:OVERPRECISION, since the current titles do not "unambiguously define the topical scope of the article". The current titles are WP:INCOMPLETEDAB. — BarrelProof (talk) 21:03, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- Support the 1765 one has 27 views but William Plunkett Maclay has 34. The 1720 one has 25 views but William T. Smith has 28[[1]] and middle names are normally omitted making the titles ambiguous. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:27, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- It doesn't appear that the middle name/initial (Plunkett/T.) is normally omitted in these 2 cases, at least not in the sources at each article. Station1 (talk) 18:51, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nomination and Crouch, Swale. William Maclay (Pennsylvania representative) is indeed incomplete disambiguation and should redirect to the William Maclay disambiguation page. William Smith (New York state senator) is likewise incomplete and should redirect to the William Smith#United States dab page. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 00:45, 12 August 2023 (UTC)
- Support William Maclay (Pennsylvania politician, born 1765) and William Smith (New York politician, born 1720). Standard disambiguation is just to use "politician". Also rename William Maclay (Pennsylvania senator) to William Maclay (Pennsylvania politician, born 1737). -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:37, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
- Relister comment: To my eye, there's currently consensus to move away from the current titles, but it could be helpful to have more discussion on the recent proposal to replace the terms representative/senator in the DABs with simply "politician". ModernDayTrilobite (talk • contribs) 13:37, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
- No objection here. Indeed, Necrothesp seems to have a stronger grasp of the convention for Wikipedia politician article titles than most. — BarrelProof (talk) 13:53, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
