Creative jazz

[edit]

I removed "Creative jazz" here -- there's no page to link to & it's not a genre I've ever heard of. -- I'm tempted to delete "Mini-jazz" too given that a google search turned up very little, though it does seem to be a real genre. --ND 21:03, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've put a citation request on the Mini-jazz article as nothing seems to show on Google other than versions of itself; nor does its major exponent. There is a subsection on Music_of_Haiti but that does not seem consistent with the article - and also calls it a form of "pure pop" rather than jazz. So until/unless there is some clarification of the genre and its notability, I think it better deleted from the template and will do so. AllyD (talk) 19:55, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed Mini-jazz as per the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Jazz#Mini-jazz. "Creative jazz" was apparently already removed; I also removed it (a red link) from List of jazz genres. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 19:15, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This template does a disservice to all of the great Jazz articles by grouping them together as a footer. By attempting to be as expansive as Template:Jazzbox it blurs too many topics together and takes away the individual poignancy of having separate boxes for each of the main topics, ala Genres, Topics, Lists and Lists of Musicians. It is too bad that User:TeaDrinker acted unilaterally in deleting Template:Jazz lists, which sought to establish the reality outlined above. • Freechild'sup? 04:29, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy! It is a minor (although important) technical point that the template was not deleted, but rather made to be a redirect to Template:Jazzfooter. This has the effect of making all instances where {{jazz lists}} is called, {{Jazzfooter}} shows up instead. This is not an administrative action, and can be reversed by going to Jazz lists (no redirect) and reverting to the version desired. For myself, I cam across this when speedy deletion was requested (which I denied in favor of the redirect, as the template was still in wide use), and have no feelings on what style is preferable. I would, however, be happy to help with whatever consensus decision is arrived at. --TeaDrinker (talk) 05:09, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template usage guideline

[edit]

Should the Jazzfooter template only be added to articles that it links to, on the basis that it's a navigation box, the primary purpose of which is to provide one-click navigation between the most important jazz related articles? Or, should it be added to other jazz related articles as well, for example an article about a specific jazz musician? Mudwater (Talk) 12:22, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Years in Jazz

[edit]

Delete every year in jazz article: The "Decades in JAzz" articles are actually sufficient. The specific year articles have the same exact info. They should all be merged into their decade article. Cosprings (talk) 14:15, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like more duplicates to be removed: European free jazz and Indo jazz. 2601:C7:C201:C640:85BE:D213:D771:BE33 (talk) 18:19, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now. Please get a consensus on Talk:European free jazz and Talk:Indo jazz as to which of each should be kept. Once there is a consensus, any auto-confirmed editor can make the change. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:13, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
They're both listed under Regional scenes, but they're also in Genres. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.54.195.214 (talkcontribs) 05:05, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I know. That's because they are in both groups. My "Not done" remarks stand. Please treat each one as a separate issue and discuss them on the respective talk pages. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 15:18, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a series of requests I have:

  •  Not done. The page says folk music.
  •  Done.
  •  Not done. I believe the word "jazz" is clearer, but if someone else wants to change it, I'm fine with it too.

Could someone take Jump blues and Western swing from the Related section and put them in the Genres section? 2601:C7:C201:C640:206D:89D7:281D:2053 (talk) 04:44, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Jump blues and Western swing don't appear to be genres of Jazz. They seem to fit best in blues and country, respectively. Although they may be closely related, I think it makes sense to leave them in the "Related" section. Feel free to reply with more information. TimSmit (talk) 02:42, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jazz Cleanup

[edit]

Could someone please make sure that this template has all genres that fit under jazz, and none that don't? I'd also like each genre to be put under the Jazz genres category and the template in all of the genres. Don't forget to message me. 2601:C7:C201:C640:F47E:5B35:8067:73AA (talk) 18:47, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you wish a change to be made please review the template yourself and then add a request with the specific changes in the form "please change X to Y". Organ Trio

Could someone remove Organ trio or put it in another section of this template? 73.54.195.214 (talk) 00:20, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On hold Discussion required: Organ trio claims that it is a genre of jazz. Why should it be removed from the template? davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 00:25, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

From what I read, Organ trio is just a jazz ensemble, not a genre. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:C7:C201:C640:A4FE:75EE:F507:3C56 (talk) 20:52, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
