IRCCloud is a modern, always-connected IRC client or often called IRC bouncer that works on a web browser and/or smartphone. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6][7]

The software is built by IRCCloud Inc., which is a british startup from Shoreditch, London founded back in 2010.[8] [9]

Funding[edit]

The company raised £500,000 (~$760,000) on 13 May 2013 from Index Ventures. [10]

Infrastructure[edit]

The whole network was originally hosted at Hetzner in Germany, in 8 July 2013 the whole network was relocated to the following networks IPv4 network: 192.184.8.0/21 and IPv6 network: 2604:8300:100:200b::/64. This network is operated and protected by AS32421 or Black Lotus Communications in the United States. [11][12]

Features[edit]

Example[edit]

As with any normal Internet Relay Chat one can join, there are as many Servers and Channels as needed, with a free account you can join up to two IRC connections, all premium accounts give you unlimited IRC connections. [15] For e.g. having a question about Wikipedia you can use irc.freenode.net on TCP-Port 6697 and joining the official Wikipedia IRC Help Channel #wikipedia-en-help or use the following direct link: #wikipedia-en-help or see: Wikipedia:IRC for details.

Development[edit]

The main webinterface is currently tested for Chrome, Safari and Firefox. Recent versions of Opera, based on Chromium work fine.[16] The latest changes are published on their public changelog.[17] and also on GitHub.

Distribution[edit]

Because the main concept and goal is to use IRCCloud in a web browser, there is no further software required unless you wanna use IRCCloud on your Smartphone. Currently there is an app for Android or Apple iOS, see Download Apps in this article.

Competitors[edit]

Sponsoring[edit]

Besides the contributions to the open source community, IRCCloud is also sponsoring tech-related events like ScaleSummit, which is an unconference event, bringing together professionals from the operations and software development communities who have a particular interest in scalable, high performance systems.
