Mega Important Announcement
I have unofficially retired from editing on Wikipedia as of, well, I can't remember the last time I was here (aside from browsing through articles), but I just logged on to announce my official withdrawal from the Wikipedia project. Unfortunately there seem to be a lot of editors out there (e.g. Betacommandbot and whoever controls it) who have so much time to waste that they really take the joy out of being able to contribute to this project, and the bureaucracy surrounding this project is such that it is nearly impossible for most people to be able to contribute what they can to it. I will be around but purely in user form, but I seriously have neither the time nor the patience (or the pain medicine!) to be able to keep up with the drama makers and other difficulties of participating in this project. Anyone who wishes to alert me to something can do so via my Gmail account; the username I have there is the same as the one I have here. Thank you to the few people who made it worth my while when the goings were good, including Catherine and the late, much-missed Jeffpw. This project needs more humanity than you few good people could possibly muster up all on your lonesomes. -- me
Announcement to all chickadees reading this here profile page:
I'm taking a more veteran Wikipedia editor's advice and am proposing a new WikiProject devoted to New Wave music.
The temporary project page is going to be here: User:Krushsister/WikiProject New Wave music.
I was finally able to make the WikiProject live!!! If you go to the New Wave music WikiProject page, you will totally see, like, one of the most rocking things in the history of ever IMO. OMGOMGOMG. Many millions of thanks to Catherine Munro for being, like, only the greatest supporter in this endeavor. W00t!
Reading, writing, and arithmetic. Listening to music. Watching TV. Going to the movies. Cooking. Espousing my points of view. Politics (though I refuse to be a completely naive partisan individual). Maintaining some sense of balance in my life. Going online. Being. Living. Feeling. Seeing.
ABBA, ABC, Academy, Adrian Borland, Adult., Air, Alden Tyrell, Alphaville, Ambulance Ltd, Arcadia, Ascii Disko, Bauhaus, Beggar & Co., Belfegore, Berlin Blondes, Blancmange, Bloc Party, Bodyrockers, Bryan Ferry, Buzzcocks, Camera Obscura, Change, Chic, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Classix Nouveaux, Clear Static, Coldplay, Colin Newman, Comsat Angels, Cut Copy, DAF, David Bowie, David Sylvian, Death From Above 1979, Depeche Mode, Division Of Laura Lee, Duran Duran, Endgames, Fashion, Fingerprintz, Fischerspooner, Franz Ferdinand, Gang Of Four, Gary Numan, Goldfrapp, Hard-Fi, Heaven 17, Howard Jones, Human League, Industry, INXS, Interpol, Jansen Barbieri Karn, Japan, Japanese Telecom, John Taylor, Josef K, Joy Division, Kajagoogoo, Kings Of Convenience, Ladytron, Language, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Martha and the Muffins, Metallica, Metric, Mick Karn, Midge Ure, Mission Of Burma, Modern Eon, Moving Units, My Bloody Valentine, Naked Eyes, New Musik, New Order, Nine Horses, Orange Juice, Paul Haig, Paul Research, Phoenix, Psychedelic Furs, Roxy Music, Scars, Scary Thieves, Scritti Politti, Simple Minds, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Sisters Of Mercy, Soviet, Space Monkey, Spandau Ballet, Talk Talk, Tears For Fears, The Bravery, The Church, The Cure, The Devils, The Dolphin Brothers, The Killers, The Lords of the New Church, The Minor Thirds, The Misfits, The Rapture, The Sound, The Swinging Laurels, Thompson Twins, Travis, Trees, Turin Brakes, TV Mania, Ultravox, Visage, Wang Chung, William Besson, Wire, Yellow Magic Orchestra, New Wave & New Romantic artists in general, anything "electroclash" or electronica-y, a surprising amount of punk and italo disco, and anything post-punk. This is just a taste of what I love.
My favorite movies (no bullshitting) are as follows: 24 Hour Party People, All The President's Men, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Fargo, Heathers, Joe Vs. The Volcano, Koyaanisqatsi, Labyrinth, Marathon (2002), Peter's Friends, Pretty In Pink, Real Genius, Sex, Lies & Videotape, Sixteen Candles, Some Kind Of Wonderful, The Breakfast Club, The Daytrippers, Trainspotting (film), Valley Girl, Velvet Goldmine, and When Harry Met Sally. This list might be amended to include other films/movies as time progresses.
I have officially given up on the Food Network. I still love Ina Garten, George Duran and Alton Brown, and it's nice that Nigella Lawson's in the lineup now, but everyone else has gotten on my last nerve. Instead I prefer to wait until Saturday nights so I can watch Michael Smith ("Chef At Home") and Kylie Kwong on Discovery Home, and I still like PBS's cooking shows. Other stuff I love: I'm still hopelessly addicted to "Life On Mars", "House", and anything with Gordon Ramsay in it (thank you, BBC America), but now I have no time for "As Time Goes By". :( Oh well. I have just started watching "Scrubs" and think it's a pretty good show, so we'll have to see about that. I especially love Dr. Cox. VH1 Classic is kinda in my shit list ever since they started pandering to baby boomers instead of being a nice, refreshing look back at the FULL spectrum of classic (read: older than 10 years) popular music. Though I do still dream about programming a special edition of "We Are The Eighties". My favorite era of "America's Funniest Home Videos" is now the John Fugelsang/Daisy Fuentes one (though I will still watch the Tom Bergeron eps), I still like Britcoms and other programs that spotlight that dry British humor/wit, "Jeopardy!", and general nonfiction bits of infotainment, miss the hell out of Ovation TV (*weep*), like Link TV, love Craig Ferguson to death, and am finding it cool that Stephen Fry is doing a recurring guest role on "Bones". Yay!
The Andy Warhol Diaries. Anything written by Lorrie Moore. I actually got to meet Moore once; she is so incredibly sweet! Lorrie Moore rules! I've gone off Anthony Bourdain because I've realized he's a pretentious yob who's not fit to lick the boots of the divine Gordon Ramsay. I used to be a Robert D. Kaplan disciple back when I was an idealistic conservative (there totally is such a thing) but now only look at his books when I want a sort of nostalgic trip back to my innocent and misspent youth. F. Scott Fitzgerald RULES; I love The Beautiful and Damned and The Great Gatsby. I love Elegy For Iris by John Bayley; some of this book is what the movie Iris was based upon, but the movie only tells part of this beautiful story between two people who obviously loved each other very much. Iris Murdoch and Bayley are the two best elderly people I've gotten to be acquainted with this side of my maternal grandparents (RIP).
My mother. My late father. Yeah, that will have to do it.
