Mia Donio (Born June 22, 2003) is an American professional ice hockey right wing for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Early Life and career

Donio was born on June 22, 2003, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She grew up in Hammonton, New Jersey. Because of the relative lack of youth ice hockey programs in South Jersey, Donio began playing field hockey at the age of 5, but after attending a Philadelphia Flyers game in 2010, and experiencing the team's run to the Stanley Cup Final, she expressed an interest in transitioning her game to the ice. She tried out for and made the Flyers Youth team, the NHL club's official youth hockey team, and played with them until 2018, when she joined the USNTDP–preferring it to playing high school ice hockey, especially since Hammonton High School did not offer it. Scouts for the QMJHL's Sherbrooke Phoenix noticed her skill, and Sherbrooke chose her in the 7th round of the 2019 QMJHL entry draft.

Junior Career

2019–20

Donio impressed in Sherbrooke's 2019 training camp and made the team. She was one of the biggest surprises of the season, playing in all 63 games alongside fellow 2021 NHL draft pick Jane Bergeron. Donio scored 26 goals and had 38 assists for 64 points as Sherbrooke finished with a 51–8–3–1 record after the season was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2020–21

Donio began the shortened 2020–21 season on the Phoenix's top line with Begeron. Across 20 games, Donio scored 19 goals and had 13 assists for 32 points as the team went 23–3–1–0 (47 points) despite a season that, for them, was heavily plagued with Covid-19. The #2 seed in the playoffs, Sherbrooke defeated the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in a three game sweep in the first round, but lost to Rimouski Océanic three games to one in the quarterfinals. In 7 playoff games, Donio scored 2 goals and had 3 assists for 5 points.

2021-22

In 2021-22 with Sherbrooke, Donio had her best season in junior. She played in all 68 games, scoring 117 points with 47 goals and 60 assists as the Phoenix, without Bergeron, won the Western Division with a 46–17–3–2 record (97 points) and had the best record in the Western Conference. In the playoffs, they defeated Baie-Comeau in four games in the First round, swept the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the conference semifinals, upset the Charlottetown Islanders in five games in the league semifinals, and then defeated the 7th-seeded Shawinigan Cataractes 4 games to one in the President's Cup Championship. Donio played in all 17 games, leading the team with 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points to help the team win its first ever title.

Professional Career

Donio was selected by the Boston Bruins with the 42nd overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. She signed a 3-year, entry-level contract with Boston on July 29, 2021, and returned to Sherbrooke for the 2021-22 season.

Once Sherbrooke's season ended on June 1, 2022, Donio joined the Boston Bruins, who were still playing in the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs, for game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final in Boston against the Tampa Bay Lightning. In her debut, she assisted on Eva Roth's goal in the second period, which was the deciding goal in the Bruin's 3–1 win. Boston won the series in 6 games, with Donio adding her first goal in game 6, and advanced to the Stanley Cup Final, were they faced the Colorado Avalanche. In the series, Donio played in every game, scoring a goal in game 1 and getting two assists in game 3. Overall in the playoffs, Donio played in 10 games and scored 6 points but the Bruins lost to Colorado in six games.

Personal Life

Donio is the middle of three sisters. Her younger sister, Lucia, was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft and played junior hockey for the Owen Sound Attack of the OHL.

Donio grew up a fan of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Emma Longo (born August 27, 2003) is an American professional ice hockey center and alternate captain for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL). She was selected first overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Sabres.

Born in Flagstaff, Arizona, Longo grew up a fan of the Arizona Coyotes and quickly became a fan of fellow Arizonan Auston Matthews. After playing for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, she was drafted into the Ontario Hockey League by the Erie Otters, with whom she played from 2019-20. With the OHL season cancelled in 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Longo signed professionally with Lausanne HC of the Swiss National League (ice hockey). The top prospect in the 2021 draft, she was chosen by the Sabres and started her NHL career that year.

Professional Career

2021-22

Longo made her NHL debut in the Sabres first game of the 2021-22 season, against the Montreal Canadiens, scoring her first NHL goal and recording an assist in a 5–1 win. On October 28 in Anaheim, she scored her first overtime winner, and 5th goal of the season, which propelled Buffalo to a 5–1–1 start. After playing in the teams' first 23 games, Longo fractured her wrist on December 2 in a game against the Florida Panthers. She missed two months before returning to play on February 10. After featuring in the Sabres next 6 games—in which she scored 4 points, she suffered a high-ankle sprain on February 20 in Columbus, which caused her to miss the remainder of her rookie season. Longo ended her first year with 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points—but played in just 29 games. Still, her strong production overall gave hope for her sophomore year.

2022-23

In 2022-23, Longo started the year with the Sabres and scored 2 goals in their season-opening victory over the Ottawa Senators. On October 31 against Detroit, she scored her first NHL hat-trick in an 8–3 win. After scoring 10 goals in her first 11 games of the season, however, she suffered a dislocated shoulder after a hit during a November 5 game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. While the injury did not require surgery, it was announced on November 7 that she would miss at least 3 months. After a rigorous recovery period, Longo returned to the Sabres on February 11. She played in 29 of the teams' last 31 games, albeit sparingly, as Buffalo found itself embroiled in a playoff push. Despite recording just 12 minutes of TOI over those 29 games, she recorded 14 goals and helped Buffalo to 42 wins, their most since 2011. Although the Sabres missed the playoffs, Longo had 24 goals and 10 assists for 34 points in 41 games on the season. Still, though, there was fear and worry throughout the Sabres organization that she had yet to play more than half of the games in either of her first two years

2023-24

Longo played her first truly full season in the NHL in 2023-24. On August 25, 2023, two days before her 20th birthday, she signed a 4-year extenstion with the Sabres, with the organization and general manager Kevyn Adams demonstrating confidence in their franchise center. She proved that the team was right by delivering one of the best individual seasons in Sabres history, scoring 55 goals (the most for a Sabre since 1993), 45 assists, and 100 points (most since 1975).

Caitlyn Fields

Caitlyn Fields (born May 18, 2003) is an American professional ice hockey right wing and alternate captain for the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League (NHL). She was selected in the first round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Predators, and made her NHL debut that year.

Early life and career

Fields was born on May 18, 2003 in Lexington, Massachusetts.

Junior Career

Fields was selected with the 8th pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft by the Seattle Thunderbirds, and played with the team from 2019-21. In her first season with Seattle, she led the team in scoring with 37 goals, 45 assists, and 82 points across 63 games as the Thunderbirds had a 37–18–5–3 record when the season was paused due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Her 80 points and 16 years old were the most for a player that young in the WHL since 1993–and her performance caused her to surge in rankings for the 2021 NHL Draft. Returning to Seattle for the shortened 2020-21 season, she scored 17 points—12 goals and 5 assists—for a Thunderbirds team that finished second in the leauge with a 19–3–1–0 record (39 points) through 23 games.

Professional Career

2021-22

Fields was selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators. She signed her 3-year, entry level contract with Nashville on July 30. Initially expected to return to Seattle for a final developmental season in 2021–22, she, along with fellow first-round draftee Julie Petters, chose to play professionally immediately, joining the Predators for training camp. She played in 3 preseason games and impressed, scoring 4 goals and getting an assist in games that the Predators all won. She was optioned to the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals to start the season, but, following significant injuries to several Predators players—including Daniel Davidson, Matt Duchene, and Roman Josi—she, along with Petters and Connor Eberly, were surprisingly recalled to the NHL on October 25. Predators general manager David Poile and coach John Hynes expressed strong confidence in the rookies, both stating that they believed Fields and Petters had enough talent and scoring prowess to quickly adjust to the NHL level–and were two of the keys to bringing a team that had been fairly sluggish over the last two seasons back into Stanley Cup contention. Fields made her debut alongside Petters that night against the San Jose Sharks. In her debut, she scored her first NHL goal in a 5–2 win, and from that moment on, she would completely turn the franchise on its head. Fields played every game the rest of the season and she and Julie Petters set countless franchise records. In a 6–0 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on November 30, Fields scored her first NHL hat-trick, making her the 5th-youngest NHL player to score 3 goals in a game (18 years and 196 days). On January 11, she recorded another hat-trick and scored the overtime winner against the Colorado Avalanche. On January 13, she, along with Petters and Josi, were named NHL All-Stars. On February 22 in Florida, she scored her 27th and 28th goals of the season to set a new Predators rookie record, breaking the previous record of 26 set by teammate Jamie Carter in 2015. On March 27, 2022, during a 5–4 win over the Philadelphia Flyers, Fields scored her 35th goal to set the Predators franchise record for goals in a single season with a snapshot from the circle in the first period. Minutes later, Petters would also break the record by scoring her 35th. She notched another hat-trick on March 29, a 10–1 over the Ottawa Senators. With her 40th goal of the year on April 19, she became the second ever 18-year old to score 40 goals in a single season. The Predators qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the West's second wild card with a 45–30–7 record (97 points), but were swept by the Colorado Avalanche in 4 games in the First Round. Fields finished her record-setting season by scoring 43 goals and recording 33 assists for 76 points in 76 games, and surging up to play on the first line alongside Petters. She scored 3 goals in her four playoff games. Fields and Petters were both named finalists for the Calder Memorial trophy, which Petters won, and were named to the All-NHL Second Team.

Personal Life

Growing up in the Boston metropolitan area, Fields and her sister were fans of the Boston Bruins. During the Bruins Stanley Cup run in 2011, they attended game 2 of the Eastern Conference final between the Bruins and Lightning, which Boston won 6–5. Fields credits that run as the spark that made her fall in love with hockey. After winning the Stanley Cup in 2024, she said that while her childhood dream was to play for Boston, "being able to beat them is even sweeter".

Her sister Maureen went undrafted in the 2021 NHL draft but now plays for the Vegas Golden Knights and is also a Stanley Cup champion, winning in 2023. Since they have both won cups, Caitlyn and Maureen have stated that their goal is to keep winning with their current teams and there are no plans for them to become the first pair of sisters to play together.

Fields lives in the Boston area during the offseason and remains a fan of MLB's Boston Red Sox, the NFL's New England Patriots and the NBA's Boston Celtics.

Maureen Fields (born May 18, 2003) is an American professional ice hockey left wing for the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Early Life

Fields was born on May 18, 2003 in Lexington, Massachusetts, the twin sister of current Nashville Predators forward Caitlyn Fields. Both sisters began playing ice hockey at the age of 6. They began playing together at Lexington High School—while Caitlyn was drafted into the WHL at age 16, Maureen played all four years with Lexington, until her graduation in 2021.

Professional Career

2021-22

Despite a strong 4 years of high school ice hockey, Fields was not looked at as a strong prospect for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, primarily due to her small size. She went undrafted in 2021, but shortly thereafter was offered a contract by the Vegas Golden Knights. On August 24, 2021, she signed with Vegas and upon the start of the regular season was assigned to the team's ECHL affiliate, the Fort Wayne Komets. With the Komets, she played in 31 games, and greatly surprised as she scored 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points. Her performance earned her promotion to the Golden Knight's AHL affiliate, the Henderson Silver Knights on February 6. She played in 28 of Henderson's final 33 games, scoring 11 goals and recording 9 assists. After the Silver Knight's game on April 23, Fields was recalled to Vegas, and made her NHL debut in a 4–5 shootout loss to the San Jose Sharks the next day. Fields would play in each of the Knight's last 4 games, and scored her first NHL goal on April 27 against the Chicago Blackhawks, and scored her second in a 7–4 win over the St. Louis Blues in the final game of the regular season on April 29. With Vegas, Fields scored twice, her only two NHL points. As Vegas missed the playoffs, she was returned to Henderson on April 30 and played in their final regular season game, scoring 2 goals in a 4–0 win over Ontario. In the Calder Cup Playoffs, Fields played in 16 games. In the Pacific Division first round against the favored Colorado Eagles, Fields scored a hat-trick in a 6–4 game 3 win as Henderson advanced to the second round. In the second Round against the Ontario Reign, Fields scored 2 goals and had 2 assists as the Silver Knights swept the Reign in three games. Henderson advanced to the Pacific Division finals, where they defeated the Stockton Heat 3 games to 1. Fields took a step back in the series, scoring only 1 point, an assist in the Knight's 3–1 win in game 2. In the Western Conference Finals against the Chicago Wolves, Fields again scored only 1 goal (and 1 point) as Chicago eliminated the Silver Knights, 4–1. She ended Henderson's playoff run scoring 9 points—6 goals and 3 assists—across 16 games.

2022-23

Entering the 2022-23 NHL season, Fields attended Vegas's training camp and appeared in 3 preason games, scoring a goal. She returned to Henderson to start the season, and played in the team's first 20 games. However, an injury to Hannah McPhearson, Fields was recalled to Vegas on November 28. She made her season debut on December 1 in Pittsburgh, and scored her first goal of the year that night in Vegas's 4–3 loss. She remained with the Knights the rest of the season. On January 14, 2023, against the Edmonton Oilers, Fields suffered an upper-body injury, causing her to miss the Knights' next 7 games. She returned on February 7 in Nashville, the first game after the All-Star Break (which was in Las Vegas). She played in 22 of the Knights' last 30 games, still nursing the injury from January. Fields played 39 regular season games with Vegas, scoring 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points. Vegas went 51–22–9 on the season, making the playoffs as the #1 seed in the Western Conference. Fields' overall strong regular season performance resulted in her surprising inclusion on the teams' playoff roster. In the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Fields surprised by playing in all 22 games, scoring 3 goals and notching 5 assists, including the series–winning goal in the Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars. The Golden Knights defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games in the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals, earning Fields her first Stanley Cup Championship in just her second season. The fact that Mo won a cup before Caitlyn became a talking point throughout the off-season.

2023-24

Prior to 2023 training camp, Fields hyperextended her left knee on September 1, which would sideline her for at least 4 weeks. She returned to camp on October 3, and played in the Knights' final preseason game on October 7. She played in the first game of the season and scored a goal in a 4–1 win over the Seattle Kraken. Fields truly became a staple of the lineup in 2023–24, playing in 67 games while scoring 14 goals, getting 28 assists, and recording 42 points for a team that won the President's Trophy with 120 points. In the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, she played in all 12 of the Golden Knights' games, scoring 4 goals to go along with an assist for 5 points. Despite her strong performance, the Knights were eliminated by the Vancouver Canucks in seven games in the second—failing to win a home game the whole series. The loss prevented a Conference Final matchup between Mo and Caitlyn, which would've been the first ever playoff series played between two sisters in NHL history. With Caitlyn winning the Stanley Cup with the Nashville Predators in June, however, they became the first pair of sisters to win Stanley Cups in back to back seasons.

2024-25

A restricted free agent after the 2023-24 season, Fields signed a 4 year extension worth $3.5 million on July 10, 2024.

Julie Petters

Julie Petters (born 13 May 2003) is an English–American professional ice hockey right wing for the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League (NHL). Born in London, Petters grew up in Southend-on-Sea and started playing ice hockey at age eight. Prior to her professional career, she played for the Chelmsford Chieftains, which garnered her international recognition. She was drafted by the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL in 2019 and played there until 2021. She was chosen in the first round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators and made her NHL debut that October.

Teddy O'Connor

Theodore Matthew "Teddy" O'Connor (born June 30, 1993) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman and captain for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL). O'Connor played for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League from 2009-12, and was taken in the second round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut during the 2012-13 season, and was named captain in the 2019 off-season.

Jane Colette Bergeron (born October 30, 2002) is a Canadian professional ice hockey left wing for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Born in L'Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec, Bergeron is the neice of former Boston Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron. She was heavily touted entering junior, and played for the Sherbrooke Phoenix of the QMJHL from 2019 until 2022. She was selected by the Penguins in the first round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, and debuted with them midway through the 2021-22 season.

Marie Kieffer (born 2 June 2001) is a Luxembourgish professional ice hockey forward for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League. She is the first NHL player to be born in Luxembourg.

Angelina Diane Cortellessa (born October 28, 2001) is an American professional ice hockey center for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL). She played junior ice hockey for the Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League (USHL) from 2018–2020, followed by one season of college ice hockey for the Penn State Nittany Lions. The Bruins traded up to select her with the 3rd overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

Early Life

Cortellessa was born in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia located in Upper Merion Township, on October 28, 2002. She started playing hockey at the age of five, often facing off one-on-one with her sister, who was a goaltender. She played youth hockey for the Valley Forge Minutemen of the Atlantic Youth Hockey League before playing high school ice hockey for Lower Merion High School from 2016-2018.

Junior and College Career

USHL

After her sophomore year at Lower Merion, Cortellessa was selected in the 2018 USHL Draft by the Sioux Falls Stampede. In her first season with Sioux Falls, she played in 52 games, scoring 72 points, 24 goals and 48 assists. In the playoffs, she played in all of the Stampede's 12 games, scoring 7 points, 3 goals and four assists, as the Stampede defeated the Chicago Steel to win the Clark Cup. She returned to the Stampede in 2019-20, playing in 44 games and recording 49 goals and 43 assists for 92 points. This quickly caused her to rise up draft boards, becoming one of the top prospects in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The Boston Bruins, winners of the previous season's President's Trophy took a gamble, looking to build a team that could truly win a Stanley Cup, and traded up to selected Cortellessa with the 5th overall pick.

NCAA

Cortellessa chose to return home to play college ice hockey, joining the Penn State Nittany Lions for the 2020-21 season. She made her debut for Penn State on November 19, scoring her first NCAA goal in an upset 5–4 comeback victory over the #11 Minnesota Golden Gophers. In a December 3 win over Michigan, Cortellessa scored two goals to help lead Penn State to a wild 9–5 victory. On January 15, against the Michigan State Spartans, she scored the game winning goal in overtime as Penn State won 3–2. On March 5, 2021, against Notre Dame, Cortellessa scored a hat-trick in a 8–4 win. She assisted the Nittany Lions lone goal in the final regular season game, a 1–7 loss to the Fighting Irish. Penn State finished the season with a 12–8 record (10–8 in Big Ten play), and matched up against Notre Dame in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament on March 14. Cortellessa scored 4 points in the game, 2 goals and 2 assists, as Penn State won 6–3. In the next game against conference leader Wisconsin, Cortellessa had 3 more points as the Nittany Lions defeated the Badgers 4–3 in OT. Penn State advanced to the championship round for the second consecutive time, but were defeated by Minnesota 4–6. Cortellessa scored 2 more goals in the losing effort.

In the first round of the 2021 NCAA Division I ice hockey tournament on March 27, 2021, Cortellessa was held scoreless against Boston College in a 2–4 loss.

Overall with Penn State, Cortellessa played in all 24 games, scoring 18 goals and 27 assists for 45 points.

Professional Career

Boston Bruins

2020–21

After Penn State's season concluded, Cortellessa signed a 3-year, entry level contract with the Bruins on March 29, 2021. She made her debut the next day, getting an assist in the Bruins' 5–4 shootout win over the New Jersey Devils. On April 3, against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Cortellessa scored her first two NHL goals in Boston's 7–5 victory. With Boston in 2021, she played in 20 of the teams' final 24 games, scoring 8 goals and 4 assists for 12 points. Boston finished third in the Eastern division with a 33–16–3 record, making the postseason. They defeated the Washington Capitals in 5 games in the first round, with Cortellessa scoring her first Stanley Cup playoff goal in game 5 of the series. The Bruins were then defeated by the New York Islanders in the second round in six games, with Cortellessa having an even stronger output of 4 points, 2 goals and 2 assists.

2021-22

Cortellessa began her rookie season in the NHL on Boston's second line, illustrating the confidence that head coach Bruce Cassidy had in the player that was expected to be the centerpiece of a Stanley Cup Championship. Cortellessa went on to have an excellent rookie season, playing in all 82 games and scoring 36 goals and 46 assists for 82 points, which led the team. In a 7–3 win over the Washington Capitals on January 10, 2022, Cortellessa recorded her first NHL hat-trick. She finished as a finalist for the Calder Memorial Trophy, finishing in second place to Julie Petters of the Nashville Predators. The Bruins finished with a 51–26–5 record, making the playoffs as the Eastern Conference's top wild card.

In the First round of the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs against the Carolina Hurricanes, Cortellessa scored the go-ahead goal in game 7 as the Bruins defeated Carolina 3–2. In the second round, she scored 5 goals against the New York Rangers as the Bruins won in 5 games. In the Eastern Conference Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning, she scored 3 goals and 3 assists over 6 games as Boston advanced to the Stanley Cup Final. She was limited to a goal and an assist in the series as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Bruins in six games. Overall in the playoffs, Cortellessa scored 12 goals and had 6 assists for 18 points.

2022–23

With a year left on her entry-level contract, Cortellessa signed an 8-year, $32 million dollar extension on August 24, 2022. Entering the 2022–23 season, Cortellessa was expected to exceed on her rookie campaign and have an MVP-level year.She played in the Bruins' first 5 games, scoring 3 goals and an assist. On October 20, 2022, against the Anaheim Ducks, Cortellessa was hit into the boards by Anaheim defenseman Mason Mackel. Mackel then inadvertently fell on her right leg. Cortellessa was helped off the ice and did not return. After the game, it was announced that she had suffered complete tears of her right ACL and MCL and a partial tear of her right PCL, and would be out for at least 9 months, ending her season. Without Cortellessa, The Bruins went on to finish the year with 47 wins and managed to shockingly return to the Eastern Conference Final, falling to the Pittsburgh Penguins in seven games.

2023–24

Cortellessa returned for the first time since the previous October in the Bruins' first game of the year on October 11, a 4–2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. She would miss 10 games the rest of the season merely as precaution. Howver, she still delivered a remarkable season, scoring 23 goals and had 76 assists for 99 points in 72 games. In the playoffs, she scored 4 goals and had 20 assists for 24 points as the Bruins fell to the Nashville Predators in 6 games in the Stanley Cup Finals

Personal Life

Cortellessa grew up in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Her sister, who is seven years older, was a goaltender for several years in youth leagues. Cortellessa grew up a fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, strongly influenced by her parents who had season tickets.
