The Mongolian Esports Association (MESA) is a body for e-sports in Mongolia. MESA was established in 2003. It is a member of the Global Esports Federations and the International Esports Federation. In May of 2019, major renewal has been conducted at the administrative level and changed the operation into a more active, sustainable system that mainly aims to engage youths and young adults. As an internationally acknowledged esports association, we are mainly focusing to nurture the community and develop esports as one of the widely accepted professional athlete fields. Even though currently we have 5 esports associations in Mongolia which are aiming to create an esports community, we are the first, operationally sustainable, and official association. Therefore, internationally recognized would be our top differentiating factor.
As of 2021[update], MESA has active divisions in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Dota 2, and Clash Royale, Tekken, eFootball PES 2020, FIFA, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. MESA also hosts the Electronic Sports Festival 2019, a yearly tournament event for some of their games.
History
[edit]THE EARLY YEARS OF MESA
[edit]Mongolian esports history starts from the 90's. During the early years of development, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, Warcraft were the common activity among youth, and later on became the foundation for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Dota 2 to spread vastly within the community.
Мongolian esports association was established in 2003 and has earned membership from international federations. Every year since then, mesa has been supporting Mongolian athletes to participate in global tournaments organized by International Esports Federation, Asian Electronic Sports Federation, Global Esports Federations and World Esport Consortium.
2019 REFORMATION
[edit]2019 was the year of reformation for Mongolian Esports Association. Our association made changes in our structure and vision and aimed to promote esport activities not only in Mongolia but in the continent and the world. Erdenechuluun Ganbaatar was appointed as President of the MESA. Maisaikhan, who has worked as association president since 2003, will continue to work in our association as a member of the Board of Directors. Starting in June, within the framework of our strategic plan, we started to organize tournaments actively. To increase the number of existing athletes and local investors, and to improve social insights about esport, we organized 3 series of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament "MESA Pro Series" and organized its Grand Final in the Mongolian Central Stadium during “XMF - XУУР Music Festival”.

The event took place at the Mongolian Central Stadium during the “XMF - XУУР Music Festival”. Having the artists compete in a friendly celebrity show match, added more colors to the Mesa Pro Series Grand Final event.

The series has already created an impact among the Dota 2 community and improved the perspective of the mass and athletes' competency level. During the MPS Dota 2 Series approximately 1000+ players were registered.
CS:GO: MESA LEAGUE
[edit]Mesa league is the most thrilling competition stage of the Mongolian Esports scene. Mongolian CS:GO teams have been consistent in international tournaments. They have qualified for the global big tournaments, such as IEM Katowice, IEM Sydney, and IEM Oakland. This astounding performance gives a great impact on the local community by making the game very competitive, wild, thrilling, and exciting.
MESA LEAGUE 2021

MESA Projects
[edit]GAMING CENTER STANDARDIZATION
[edit]Standardizing and improving the gaming center environment for both professional athletes, amateur players, and private sector business owners through policy and regulation amendment is one of our crucial projects in 2021.
HEALTHY ESPORTS CAMPAIGN
[edit]In the Mongolian community, there is common disapproval of esports and gaming being the core cause of health deterioration among youth. To both amend the public view and promote more healthy ways to practice gaming as both sports and entertainment, mesa has created an online campaign "Healthy Esports". The campaign contains a series of contents on how to maintain physical and mental health while practicing esports.
MESA Programs
[edit]YOUNG SPORTS LEADER PROGRAM (YSL))
[edit]Like any other sport, having talents to facilitate the development of the sport is crucial. With that in mind, mesa has initiated a YSL program for young esports enthusiasts to expand their knowledge in the field. The program contains:
- Mentorship from experts for on-the-field knowledge
- Volunteering experience at mesa for practical knowledge and skills.
The program will recommence in 2021 with the vision of supporting the esports ecosystem with young esports talents.
MESA INTERNSHIP
[edit]Young people who involved in the program have the opportunity to develop their professional and personal skills as part of an esports family, and the Mongolian Esports Association provides a great opportunity for participants in organizational events and part of the MESA community. As esports is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, MESA, the nurturing place for next-generation leaders.
