Thanks...
[edit]for the kind comments, and for the barnstar (and the resulting warm fuzzies). And congratulations on getting to man the admin-ship yourself; sorry I wasn't around to support you! (Just got back from actual and wiki vacation, now trying to catch up... whew!) Cheers and happy editing, Mindspillage (spill yours?) 04:43, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
- No prob at all, you deserve it. Im enjoying my adminship and watching out for icebergs, hoping I wont have to walk the plank... etc. Nice to see you back from SF. Now back to work. Redwolf24 04:46, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
a question
[edit]I have a question. I am brand new to Wiki so I am still learning my way around. I have an account for English version of Wikipedia. But if I want to write an article in another language for that particular Wikipedia, do I also need a different account, or I can just switch from English Wikipedia to, i.e. Serbian Wikipedia within the same account? Thank you!
Lana
- Sadly you need an account for every language of wikipedia. You have to create a new account at the Serbian wiki. Oh and remember to sign with ~~~~ the WikiSoftware converts it to your user name. It is necissary for you to do this at talk pages like this one. Redwolf24 05:57, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

question re placing new articles into categories
[edit]Redwolf24: Thank you for your welcome note on my user talk page. You recommend that new articles be placed into category(ies) so that articles are not orphaned. I read the wikipage on categories and it looks like you just make them up? Did not see a master list of categories to choose from. Any suggestions? sitearm 14:39, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
- No don't make them up... Pretty much any article can be placed into a category. You'll get the hang of it eventually but until then I can categorize for you, just tell me what has to be categorized. Redwolf24 20:56, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
- I've categorized some already using categories I found on similar articles (e.g., "physicists", "biologists", "museums") but IS there a master list of existing categories? sitearm 03:29, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, sadly for lists you must do it yourself. As for the mastercategory list, try the main page where it says CULTURE GEOGRAPHY HISTORY etc. and pick one of those, then find the subcategory you want, then the sub of that. Etc. If you still need help just gimme the article name and I'll cat it Redwolf24 03:30, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
- If there were a List of Categories itd probably be 100000 items long... not very helpful either. Redwolf24 03:31, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

Hey, did you know about Category:Wikipedians of the United States, and cats? I think you should name your category Category:Wikipedians from Washington to keep with the current structure. Thanks. ∞Who?¿? 06:17, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
- I am, but I prefer not to put categories on my user page. --Michael Snow 15:20, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
- Aha, I killed the category now. Redwolf24 20:33, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, well I didn't mean to just delete it :) I think the Wikipedian version of it will be fine, as there is supposed to be a project to convert all the lists by state to categories. As far as I know anyways, so don't see a prob with the Category:Wikipedians from Washington. I think Michael Snow meant that he doesn't put cats on his page, I have them on mine. ∞Who?¿? 06:04, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
- Nah its not what Snow said its just that I saw the list thats why I killed it. I think a category may be good but not now, too tired :P Redwolf24 06:06, 28 July 2005 (UTC)

How to proceed with major edits
[edit]I've done quite a bit of re-vamping on the Microsoft page, for example. I'm not sure if the process I used was preferred for this wiki or not... there hasn't been any reverts or anything yet so I'm assuming its ok... I've also been asked on my page how to proceed with page re-vamping. Is generally going from assumpitions on a page's discussion page ok? Are lots of edits ok or is one big edit preferred? Thanks --RN 20:30, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
- Lots of edits are perfectly fine, one big edit is alright too but you may not want to change a page TOO dramatically if you think someone will care. Just remember to have it wikified (like have links to other articles so people can understand what youre talking about) and perhaps more importantly, stay NPOV. Redwolf24 20:32, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
World Community Grid
[edit]Hello, before you read on I would just like to say that I have so far only posted this to a limited amount of administrators for consultation. If you have any objections to its wider distribution or suitability for Wikipedia please let me know.
Hi, I would just like to invite you to find out about the World Community Grid Human Proteome Folding Project. This is a purely philanthropic project and supported by a "blue chip" corporation in IBM. There is an ability to join a team once you have downloaded the software and another user has already established the Wikipedia team.
I would like to emphasise that I do not want to pressure anybody into feeling obligated and I understand the limited computer resources/access available to some. Feel free to pass this message on and thank you very much for your time, Mark83 21:49, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I don't see the particular benefit this will have on me, plus it looks like it will take some of my bandwidth. So as of now I will refrain, but you still may be able to convince me. Redwolf24 22:02, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
- Both Ike9898 and David Newton have warned me that such a message (widely distributed) could be regarded as spam, so I'm not taking it further. Mark83 10:32, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
Your message at Mike Garcia's talk page
[edit]Hello again, Redwolf24. Sorry for your latest message on my talk page, I was a bit of a semi-break. What I use in order to look for producers of albums is at allmusic.com where you go on to the credits section, you'll need an I.D. to go in there. You can try Artist Direct.com instead they have credits of albums. The charts I add on albums are from allmusic.com too. -- Mike Garcia | talk 00:32 27 July 2005 (UTC)

- User:Finlay McWalter gave him two warnings for vandalism, see [1]. Only minutes after Finlay reverted Magicianrandy's vandalism, he again vandalised the Out of This World (card trick) page with abuse, see [2]. Magicianrandy also hurled abuse on his own talk page, so I blocked him for 24hrs. Perhaps it should have been longer. Moriori 01:30, July 27, 2005 (UTC)

Using Foreign Languages in English Language Articles
[edit]Thanks for the welcome.
Anyway, as someone who speaks a smattering of several languages, and currently on a little Sumo kick as my Bulgarian man kotooshu came within one win of having a giant white guy above the dohyo this July, I edit a lot of articles that could have a lot more Japanese in them. For instance, if I see something like Sekiwake, I really want it to read Sekiwake (関脇) for the few people who may be interested in such things.
There's also the fact that so many characters are used and reused in Sumo. For instance:
Sekiwake 関脇 - Third rank from the top in Sumo
Ozeki 大関 - Second rank from the top in Sumo
Sekitori 関取 - A wrestler in the top ranks
The actual character means 'door' or 'gate' and, well, point is that I have no idea if they're supposed to be in there, or not. Since they currently aren't, I don't put them in, but I was wondering if it would be wholly inappropriate if I did.
--Joshua Maciel 02:20, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
- Using foreign characters is alright as long as you have what it is in English there too. However do not write entire articles in Japanese as it is quite annoying, this is afterall the English Wiki. But yes we like to have origins in their own language with a translation. Redwolf24 02:30, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
- You act as if I actually could write an entire article in Japanese. It would be just as annoying for the Japanese, as they probably wouldn't be able to decipher it either. I will get on task this afternoon with the expanding of the wonderful world of Sumo, and the European rikishi who inhabit it, and add the previously unknown dimension of chest hair to the sumo equation.
- --Joshua Maciel 02:36, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
- Haha all these Japanese words... I'm lost :P but I do hope that I helped you and solved your questions. Redwolf24 02:38, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

Protection
[edit]Just wanted to let you know that protecting the Bush article is a waste of time...the vandals wil be back as soon as the protection is lifted. I recognize your effort to be one made in good faith, but page protection isn't something to be taken lightly. Thanks and have a good one!--MONGO 04:08, July 27, 2005 (UTC)
- Well weve been talking about those semi-protection things etc. So why not protect it til that happens? Plus is there really anything that we've added lately that wasnt a minor edit or vandalism or minor vandalism? Redwolf24 04:50, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
- Well, the liklihood that the semi protect will happen is low. There are too many people that just want to ensure that this wiki remains open to all. The page has been protected before and I think that the existing editors on RC patrol do a pretty good job of keeping things in check. I didn't have anything to add or delete to the article right now anyway.--MONGO 07:10, July 27, 2005 (UTC)
- Any other admin is free to unprotect it as they see fit. As for me though I'll leave it protected. Redwolf24 18:25, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

edit wars...
[edit]Hi I am fairly new to Wikipedia. I added an addition to the article on Vampires. There have been many contributors to the section. Recently, a user named DreamGuy has come in and has tried to make major changes to the article, rearranging and deletions. Me and other contributors don't agree with the changes but he keeps on trying to do it his way. We are willing to listen and ask him to discuss it on the discussion page but he won't and it seems like he is trying to bully his way around. It is starting to turn into an edit war, him against everyone else. Any advice? It is discouraging and it makes me want to give up on Wikipedia even though I have barely joined. I am sure other new members would feel the same way. I think the user DreamGuy has a history of bullying his way with articles though I can't be sure. Any guidance or insight would be appreciated. Thanks.--Evmore 10:19, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

Vanity/Original Research question

Thanks rub in how much you've done. I'm just trying to get 1000 by the time I die. Wikipedia Username 02:33, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
- Haha. Cmon you got 250 in like a week. You should have 1000 before September easily. Redwolf24 02:42, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
lunchmeatistasty has returned, he messed with my page and someone elses, just block him forever, it's a vandalism only account. Wikipedia Username 03:26, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry not yet. I don't have that right to block forever unless like theyre racist and especially hateful etc. Redwolf24 03:31, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
But he'll just keep doing it, and there's too many vandalisers as it is. But okay fine, I guess he'll be my enemy "roar". Wikipedia Username 03:35, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
- Meh I'll worry about it some other time. Redwolf24 03:38, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
If he isn't blocked I found a very nice user, its the lunchmeatistasty guy again, just in sockpuppet form. Redwolf24 Wikipedia Username and JamesTeterenko are FAGS. Wikipedia Username 03:52, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
- Blocked for user name. Redwolf24 03:58, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
I'm working on my own sub-proposals that they should merely be licked enthusiastically. Might get around to it. --Tagishsimon (talk)
Alright I'll be sure to vote for em. Redwolf24 19:59, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
Something Long Overdue
[edit]Welcome!
Hello, Redwolf24/Archive07, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}}
on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!
I couldn't resist. It broke my heart to learn that you were never officially welcomed. Ryan 10:12, July 29, 2005 (UTC)
I need to take that down as you're the third person to welcome me from that page! Redwolf24 19:59, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, I'm sorry! I skimmed through some of your archives and didn't notice you had been welcomed since. :( Careless little me. Oh well, goes to show how welcome you really are. :P Ryan 08:16, July 30, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks from the iBook of the Revolution.
[edit]I have a problem creating a redirect - trying to create a redirect at ASPSU to Associated Students of Portland State University, but it's not working. What am I doing wrong?
IBook of the Revolution 16:46, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
- You have to do this. Make sure the page is blank and type #REDIRECT [[Associated Students of Portland State University]]. And make sure theres nothing else at the page. Redwolf24 19:59, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
Bkissin
[edit]Redwolf24,
I have been a wikipedia user for a couple of months now. Not that I didn't enjoy being welcomed, but why am I being welcomed now?
-bkissin
- I welcome anyone who has a blank Talk Page. Yours was blank so I welcomed you. By the way when I look at your contributions I see you haven't really done much for a month so you weren't gonna be welcomed while you weren't at wiki. Also one more thing, on talk pages such as this one, sign with ~~~~. The wikisoftware converts it to your user name and date. Redwolf24 20:17, 29 July 2005 (UTC)

NPA?
[edit]Were you quoting WP:NPA at me, or in support of your proposal? -Splash 22:35, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
- In support of my proposal. I wasn't inferring you were attacking, dont worry. Redwolf24 22:37, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
Comment
[edit]I just posted a comment at Talk:Random article, see what you think about my modest idea. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 22:53, 29 July 2005 (UTC)

Thanks from JaimeyWB
[edit]Redwolf,
Thanks for the welcome! Love Wikipedia and everything it represents. I look forward to more posting and taking advantage of this fantastic research tool!
JaimeyWB
- Thanks for the thank you. Yes Wikipedia and all it represents is fantastic. What if the sum of all human knowledge was available free to anyone? It'd be a utopia! Redwolf24 08:40, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
- P.S. Jaimey, instead of typing out JaimeyWB, type ~~~~ The wiki software changes it to your username and the date. This is Strongly encouraged on talk pages. Cheers, Redwolf24 08:40, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
Black Sabbath award
[edit]Hi, Redwolf. Thanks for the bestowing of The Black Sabbath Award! I am highly honored to be a recipient. *bows* Just one thing— What did I do to deserve it? :) Regards, Sango123 13:52, July 30, 2005 (UTC)
- I just give that to the best of users. You've helped out a lot of newbies and you haven't abused the HMS AdminShip. Redwolf24 18:50, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
Canderson7's RFA
[edit]Thanks for supporting my RFA. Consider us even :) --Canderson7 16:54, July 30, 2005 (UTC)
- No problem, you'll skipper that ship well. Redwolf24 18:50, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
Jack Thompson article
[edit]Hi Redwolf,
I and a number of other users have agreed over at Talk:Jack Thompson (attorney) that the article got protected while a number of poor changes and additions to it were still in place. Could it be unprotected so improvements could be made? (If not, any ballpark idea when it will be unprotected?) I know the man is a controversial figure who generates no small amount of ire from some people, so there's probably always going to be some nitwit trying to add "Jack Thompson sucks!" to the article. Something we'll just have to deal with as we go, I guess. Thanks! GarageBay9
- K, I'll unprotect it for now but I will protect it again if I see 19 vandalisms in a row with no reverts. Redwolf24 18:50, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
Would you please do me a favor and close the VfD on this one? I don't want to remove the boilerplate tag until it's resolved, and your go-ahead would be most helpful. I've changed my reasoning, and it appears all voters are unanimous. Thanks again, mysekurity 23:47, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
Coypright Image
[edit]Hi I am new to Wiki. I posted a picture here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Vampires.jpg) and used the tag, "This work is copyrighted, and used with permission. The terms of the permission do not include third party use. It is believed that the uses made here are likely to be fair use for most United States reusers of the work but this is a decision reusers must make for themselves based on their own circumstances. Permission granted by Wang Wei, the owner of image. E-mail Wang Wei at blizzard@wangwei-art.com for further information." A user DreamGuy says this is a copyright violation. First the owner who I know, Wang Wei, says it is fine where it is. I have an e-mail giving permission to have it in Wikipedia. Further, it is used as a promotional on his web page so it would even qualify as fair use even if not used is a free encyclopedia such as this. Can you let me know if I am in the wrong or not. If not can your protect the page with the correct tag. If I am wrong let me know so I can remove it. Thanks --Evmore 07:50, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
