Background and Early Life

John Francis Mugisha is a Ugandan Public Health Scientist, Social Scientist, researcher, education administrator and the current Vice-Chancellor[1] of Cavendish University Uganda.[2] He is the Vice Chairman of the Uganda Vice Chancellors’ Forum[3] and formerly the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Uganda Martyrs University.[2] He is a Member of the East African Science and Technology Commission.

Mugisha was born in 1970 to Rev Abel Katekyeza (RIP) and Faith Katekyeza, a "Munyankole by tribe"[4] and is married to Khellen Evelyn Musiime.

Education

Mugisha attended Ruyonza Primary School (Ruabare Sub-county, Ntungamo District), went to Rugarama Secondary School for his Ordinary Level and Kyamate Secondary School and Bwanga High School for his Advanced Level. He was then admitted to Makerere University Kampala in 1992, completed in 1995 and graduated in 1996 with degree of Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences majoring in Political Science and Social Administration. After five years of work in the Public Service, he joined Uganda Martyrs University in 2001 for a Master of Science in Health Services Management and completed in 2002. In the year 2007, he joined Keele University (UK) for a PhD in Health Planning and Management and graduated in 2011.
