This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of UNSW Canberra at ADFA, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://info.unsw.adfa.edu.au/index.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. Disambiguation link notification for October 11[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Blocked[edit]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for copyright violations. From some random checks, it appears that most of the content from the UNSW Canberra at ADFA and Michael Frater (academic) articles you created were copied and pasted from their official websites. This is not acceptable under Wikipedia's policies on copyright (please see WP:COPYRIGHT).. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Nick-D (talk) 09:46, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, in response to your email, you should not be writing about a topic which you have a personal involvement with, especially when the material you're posting is essentially the same as the organisation's website. Please see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Copyrights. Even if you were to arrange for the text of UNSW@ADFA's website to be released under a Wikipedia-friendly creative commons license, it would still be unacceptable to post it given its promotional nature. This is an attempt to write an encyclopedia, and neutrality is highly important. Please note that you were blocked for copyright violations, and not plagiarism. If you were were asked to develop this article as part of your job, please bring the above policies to your boss's attention. Nick-D (talk) 08:44, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi, I understand that I was blocked for copyright infringement. I understand that this is not acceptable by Wikipedia standards. This was wholly unintentional on my part - I was under the impression that I merely had to reference my sources. Now that I am aware, I will not do it again, and will make productive contributions instead, and re-write my previous articles so they meet the standard required for encyclopaedic content. Alexandra Schinzinger (talk) 21:06, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

No response in 3 days. Any future requests must address all reasons for the block (✉→BWilkins←✎) 09:13, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

What about the WP:COI issues? (✉→BWilkins←✎) 08:11, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
On the basis of your email, you have a significant conflict of interest with the subject of the articles you were working on, and were copying and pasting this material from the website as part of your work (I won't disclose the exact extent of this given that it would involve "outing" you). As such you really shouldn't be working on topics relating to UNSW at ADFA. Nick-D (talk) 10:26, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I'll just copy when I had previously written for my unblock request, as I have been away, and it has been longer than 3 days: Hi, I understand that I was blocked for copyright infringement. In regards to the COI: I was not blocked for conflict of interest - I was blocked for copyright infringement, and it was an honest mistake for that to happen - I just didn't realise that was a requirement. I do not believe that a conflict of interest exists - I am not responsible for any promotional or recruitment work at the university. I believe that my knowledge of the area of UNSW at ADFA can be written the way which is required by Wikipedia. If the structure of the article is assessed it looks, structurally, very similar to all other university pages, such as ANU and UC. Since I work for the university, I believe I'm in a good position to provide an accurate yet unbiased article, and I would be grateful if you could let me try again. Alexandra Schinzinger (talk) 22:37, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

No response. Clearly copy-pasting the previous doesn't work when there are additional issues. As per WP:GAB, we need to be assured that you will not violate WP:COI, WP:PROMO and original research - you must always use third party soures (✉→BWilkins←✎) 09:48, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of Interest isn't usually a blockable thing, but it does lead people astray, and we are wary of unblock requests where there is COI. You work for the uni, therefore you do have a conflict of interest whatever department you work in. COI is not forbidden, but it is not recommended as neutrality of editing is difficult for people in this position. We also require more than your knowledge of things - we require things to be verifiable, and preferably independently wherever there is any chance of dispute. You cannot be a source for edits you make. (This also precludes people adding info about themselves to articles about them - they may well know the most about the subject, but they are not independent of it and verification WP:V is necessary.) Unlike university research (in science particularly), where original work is the name of the game, we like things to be rooted in (but not copied from) other sources. This is not a decline of your request - just an expansion on points made by others. Peridon (talk) 09:45, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
