Article Feedback deployment[edit]

Hey Abyssal; I'm dropping you this note because you've used the article feedback tool in the last month or so. On Thursday and Friday the tool will be down for a major deployment; it should be up by Saturday, failing anything going wrong, and by Monday if something does :). Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 21:28, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi i was looking at the List of dinosaur-bearing rock formations, and it seems to be that since there are something like 6 separate lists of dinosaur strata (body fossils, nests, tracks, theropod tracks, sauropod tracks... i bet i'm missing something), i was thinking that the List of dinosaur-bearing rock formations- because it is so general- should be converted into either a directory of the other lists, or a massive page with all the lists included in broad detail. you generally have more experience in paleo lists than i do, so i was wondering what you thought. thanks, Ryan shell (talk) 16:14, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Zillions of successive ref tags[edit]

Please reconsider this; academic journals don't allow it, and nor should we. Ref tags are retrospective, so unless there's some particularly contentious statement, they shouldn't be repeated for every sentence in a para. Ugly and disruptive to readers. Tony (talk) 01:59, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oolite merge still on hold?[edit]

Hi Abyssal

I notice that WP still has a couple of separate pages which go by the name of Inferior Oolite and Inferior Oolite Formation which you suggested back in 2011 that you might get around to 'merging next week' - I have those sort of intentions too!

Meanwhile I've been putting together articles and article stubs eg Geology of Cambridgeshire which reference the Inferior Oolite Group and the Great Oolite Group. Ideally these pages want to be merged and retitled as 'Inferior Oolite Group' as the sequence is now formally known (and likewise with Great Oolite/Great Oolite Formation as 'Great Oolite Group') - see eg http://www.bgs.ac.uk/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?pub=INO and http://www.bgs.ac.uk/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?pub=GOG I thought I'd drop you a line before I did anything in case you had plans in mind.

thanks Geopersona (talk) 12:09, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Abyssal, it has been 12 days since you said you'd get right on the issues raised here, and the two major articles are as yet unaddressed. As you can see from the nomination page, one of the editors is on the verge of rejecting the nomination due to its age and the slowness of your edits to fix matters. I advise you to respond as soon as you see this, and to give this nomination your top priority; I just hope it isn't too late when you see this. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:01, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • We're now at 11 days since you last said you were making progress, but clearly weren't ready yet. It's very hard when this stretches out so long: yours is now the oldest nomination at over two months. Please finish this as soon as you return. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:14, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • There's a new reply from Nikkimaria that identifies some issues remaining. Please look into these as soon as possible, and take another look at areas she hasn't yet covered to make sure there's nothing waiting there for her to find. Many thanks. Article Feedback Tool update[edit]

Hey Abyssal. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:48, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
