Ahmedabad summary

Hi Akash,

The summary is good enough for the main page. Put it up for queue ASAP. BTW, you will have to use an image with the article summary. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 12:35, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

RQ help on a different CfD

Category:Tripuris has come up for discussion on this cFd [1]. The logic I stated is that Tripuris are a minority in Tripura and the redirect would be unwarranted, because it would include Bengalis born in Tripura, who are not ethnic Tripuris.Bakaman Bakatalk 22:39, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Sidi Bashir mosque was a great and interesting read. Thanks for a nice article.--Dwaipayan (talk) 11:17, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
This was an exceptional DYK, one of the best taglines in a long while. I'm even forgoing the update just to keep it on the main page for longer (not really, I have to study now). Take care -- Samir धर्म 14:57, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Rashtrakuta Dineshkannambadi 01:37, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi Mr. Shah. I happened to see your reasonable posture on the Belgaum issue and hence this note. A new war seems to be looming with the same couple of Maharashtrians unable to digest the material I have worked on for more than a year on the Rashtrakuta page. The dialogue seems to have started with bad mouthing Dravidians and Kannada people in general which seems to be a favorite past time of these guys. While I have quoted all my sources, am willing to give names of publishers of the authors I have referenced, this seems to be an issue with these guys. I have been largely maintaining this site for more than a year and believe the info in it is accurate as it comes from some very reliable sources. These Marathi guys are claiming Kannada Vandalism (They dont understand I cant vandalise myself) and if push comes to shove, we will take this to Arbitration. In the mean time, please see if you have time to prevent a revert war. I have maintained a balanced approach with respect to literature (Sanskrit/Kannada), Inscriptions (Sanskrit/Kannada), architecture (in Maharashtra/Karnataka), expansion and contraction of empire over the 250 years of rule, always quoting sources and making sure there is no COPYVIO. I have reworded to make sure of this. So far these guys are only tagging it repeatedly, though I have explained that a tag can only be used when there has been a serious revert war going on, which has not happened before today. Also, I believe tags cant be used while these guys are scratching around for information. They claim its a Kannadaization of the page for an unfathomable reason. Their lack of Info makes them assume that any Kingdom that rules over Maharashtra (in this case from Karnataka) has to be a Marathi empire. They dont realise that Marathi had not even become a popular language at that time.

Hope you can mediate, without compromising history ofcourse.

Dinesh Kannambadi

Dear Aksi, Sorry to trouble u again.A concerned wikipedians had notified me about possible vandalism by Kannadi vandalists. This is no issue of Marathi-Kannada etc. as I have not verified the contents.By the overwhelming defensive action of Kannadi editors,it seems somethings wrong!Plz have a look at article. In hour or two I will be with my sources.By my last experience,if these vandalisors are doing something wrong in this article I shall be going for arbiteration right away!

Plz see the talk page of Rashtrakuta to find if its not me but a other history-expert who was worried about 'kannadisation' of article. mahawiki 03:00, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Plan

Regarding the discussion you had with Guru a few days back on general topics related to India (covered under the template "Life in India"), how about putting each "Life in India" topic in INCOTW (even if those have appeared there before)?--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:15, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Absolutely agree with you. Nice plan. However, before starting this thing, we should talk with others, including admins. Also, specially we should talk with Rama, Ambuj, Deepu, Sameer, Sresth, Deeptrivia, Ganesh, Sundar, Hydkat, Srikeit etc, not to mention the likes of Nichalp, Guru and Bhadani. We should start the talk in INCOTW Talk page, and request everyone to see the talk. I am leaving right now for 2-3 days, you start the process...I shall return soon. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:31, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Yup, you nominate 2 articles straight away, and also communicate with people. Its high time general India based articles are improved, rather than regional ones. City and state articles are relatively easier with ptoject guidelines being readily available...but these ones need real community participation. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:37, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Re:Surprise

Plot a real surprise, my friend. I saw your creation the moment it was done. However, you did great - Gujarat is a good topic for a portal, becoz it has a large collection of good articles, and a larger potential. I'll help you set it up - also see WP:HIM and WP:SPORT for comparisons.

Its no sweat managing a portal, but you need to be patient - I don't think it was wise to create "selected articles" right away. Don't expect to rotate articles on a day-to-day basis - try weekly. Apart from answering shortage problems, you also give time for a substantial audience to see entries. Rama's arrow 18:28, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Actually it would have made a good suprise for a fellow sitting down to lunch with "sabudana ni khichdi" and "chaash." Hehehehe... Rama's arrow 18:31, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Actually you better put up the first selected article now. Rotate on a weekly basis, and pick substantial articles, not necessarily featured ones. Also remember to update "News" and DYK. Good plan on the whole. Ask for the Portalking's advice. Rama's arrow 18:46, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Gujarat Month?

Consider that both Gandhiji and the Sardar were born in October, it seems auspicious to launch an FA drive for Gujarat articles. Let's shortlist 5-7 articles to make FA - I have some time this month to do a lot of the writing work. What say? Also, you created the column but do you plan to start a Gujarat Wikiproject? Rama's arrow 18:49, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Portal: Gujarat

Portalking....ha ha ha, Nirav cracks me up! :P Hey, how are things going...I took a look at the Selected articles module and it looked like the problem wasn't the design but the lack of sufficient categories. The way the page was originally designed, it was built to expand with additional content — which was never a problem that Portal:India had. I've made a minor change to the design too offset the fact that this portal has fewer categories. I will also take a look at the Portal:Gujarat mainpage in detail tonight...just off the top, the it looks well designed and the code seems to be working okay too. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks AreJay 15:15, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Apologies

Sorry. I was doing some experimenting/copy-paste for Portal:Karnataka. Messed up your PGUJSCS page for a min. Sorry about that. Sarvagnya

By the way, do you know if there is any way to 'auto-generate' the SA summary? Sarvagnya 19:16, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Yes, that is what i meant by auto generate. I mean we should be able to have a template or something, where you will just give the article name as parameter and it will automatically paste the first 50 words or so from the article into the summary page and add [more... |article_name] at the end. :) Hmm... WP is not perfect :) . Thanks for the clarification anyway. Sarvagnya 19:31, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you, but could you please put in a word to Mahawiki that he has to stop his personal attacks and bad faith edits immediately. For details, see here. Thanks. Sarvagnya 19:57, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi. You have recently nonimated the Indian Armed Forces page for ICOTW. But i believe the qualifying criteria is that the nomination needs to be a stub. - Mayuresh 20:11, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Sarvagnya's is being too notorious

Dear Akshay, I need ur help. This user Sarvagnya is purposely creating a scene at Blnguyen‎'s talk page. All he wants to fire me out of Wikipedia. He is nagging to that admin and trying to show me as a vandalist. This is all because of his defeat at Belgaon article.I request u to tell that admin that perhaps I am not bad as i am projected by that user.(I hope u agree with this). He is busy telling admin, how u and Amerique left the discussion because of my 'vandalism' and 'trouble'. Thanks.mahawiki 20:21, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Another example of his blatant lying and attempt to mislead!! I never spoke a word about you(Aksi) on Blnguyen's talk page! Sarvagnya 20:41, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

My RFA

Thank you, Aksi great, for voting on my RFA, which passed 95 to 1. Now that I have the mop, I hope I can live up to the standard, and be a good administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. —this is messedrocker (talk) 18:07, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks..

Thanks for ur reply.I have backed out from Rashtrakuta as I am sure their's nothing against Maharashtra.I have never edited (few of the articles) I alleged of being 'Kannadised'.I was talking that in General terms.Fortunately Blnguyen has suggested cleaning up of Rashtrakuta. As of now,I am least bothered of their Kannadisation if its not on Marathi/Maharashra related pages. But,yeah ur right that I must give some clues for my views.

Regarding that guy,I dont even wish to take his name,he's a complete loser and I am not gonna respond his childish comments and badmouthing. He tried his best influencing admin but thankfully admin dint take any decisions in haste.I will be definately contribute to Marathi/Maharashtra related articles.Im busy visiting libraries these days. But dont fail to keep a WATCH on Belgaon article.Plz dont fail to do so.I think u recall how that user tried my patience over a non-issue.

And yes Akash,do u know a admin/authority who knows Marathi?I need one for my citation-translations.Thanks. mahawiki 18:42, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Alright

I'll try keeping high and dry from the fighting, but you know the Kshatriya spirit. If you havent seen the cfd for Category:Hindu mathematicians and the like (theres many cats up for Cfd), I've been fighting off deletionists, sockpuppeteers and users wishing to call me names and malign me. Without Blnguyen around I feel a bit vulnerable, though I know Ragib and DaGizza would probably help me out of a quagmire. Its mostly because I supported Blnguyen against a certain admin who called me a sock of Subhash_bose and was racist and incivil towards me. I'm kind of fearing retribution. September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?

He has also warned me by saying that I should be careful of my age and experience. See this on my talk page. As you are an admin, I am seeking your help in this matter. Hi, which museum is this?

http://www.shunya.net/Pictures/WesternIndia/Gujarat/Ahmedabad/CityMuseum3.jpg

-THB 17:24, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Aksi great, I moved it back with a redirect from "Museum at Ahmedebad". The building is called the Museum at Ahmedebad by the international architecture community and that is the common English name but the proper name should perhaps be the Wikipedia article title. "Sanskar Kendra" appears to refer to many different things when Googled. What is an English translation? Also, if you are in Ahmedebad, perhaps you could take photographs of this building and the millowners' association building by Le Corbusier and share them on Wikipedia. Sorry for the misunderstanding. -THB 19:12, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
