Chess Kids

Hi anetode

When you moved Chess Kids to the corrected version of the page title from its previous title at Chess kids, it seems that the link in the AfD template on the article's page got broken.

I think the AfD is still listed under the older title of Chess kids. I don't know how to repair the link so I thought you might want to take a look at it.

Have a good one... --Jack-A-Roe (talk) 07:53, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out, the links are fixed now. I'm impressed by your contribution to the article, it was why I re-listed the debate. The article was hanging on by a thread but now I think it stands a good chance in the second round of AfD. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 08:01, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the compliment; glad I could help with a bit of research for the article. --Jack-A-Roe (talk) 08:27, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Heather Chadwell

Hey, do you mind if I ask what you meant when you said the nominator "essentially contesting his (sic) own decision"? I tried to look at the diff, but I can't since I'm not an administrator. The only thing I could figure out was that you were saying that I had removed the prod tag myself, but I think it was an IP user who did that. Anyway, please let me know, as I don't want to waste anybody's time. Movingboxes (talk) 08:17, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

The first edit after the article's inception was you tagging it with {{notability}}. I found it kind of ironic that you nominated an article for deletion that would have been speedied if you would have chosen to tag it with {{db-a7}} instead :) Sorry about the link - it's broken even for admins, so I've appended the closure with an explanation. Cheers, ˉˉanetode╦╩ 08:22, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
I guess I'm confused. I felt an assertion of notability was made (she was a television personality), so I didn't think it was appropriate to speedy it. However, I never felt it met WP:BIO. Should I have tagged it for a speedy? Movingboxes (talk) 08:26, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
It was a judgment call. A couple of tricks I learned from new page patrol included checking the deletion log to see if the article was previously deleted and searching Google, Google news, and Google books to see if the assertion of notability can be substantiated. What you did was certainly not inappropriate. In borderline cases the admin will review an article prior to speedy deletion anyway. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 08:34, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

As the closing Nom, you noted that the discussion about sourcing had "stretched to the point of irrelevance". I can understand your statement, as such "stretching" can happen when editors on opposing sides in a disucssion have different interpretation of guidelines under policy. This aside, and as the film itself is still cycling through festivals, I believe that it will eventually have greater support for its notability. I have thus saved the article in my sandbox so I might continue working to improve it. When I think it has the strength to survive, I would like to be able to return it. I will not rush it back. I will not return it unless or until all concerns discussed at the AfD have been addressed... and this may take many months. Any advice you can offer in how it might at that future time avoid being rushed into a 2nd AfD would be appreciated. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 17:14, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

  • I saved the article in a sandbox and will keep abreast of news and continue to tweak the article itself as I wait for news about the film gaing a touch more notabilty. Thanks for the encouragement. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 05:57, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Image:1934kwanon.png

A tag has been placed on Image:1934kwanon.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:1934kwanon.png|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Sdrtirs (talk) 00:20, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello Anetode. You might want to comment at Template talk:COI#recent edits, since another editor has questioned your removal of the word 'may' from the language of the warning. It is not easy to be certain that the article's main editor has a COI. (Might just be an enthusiast rather than a conflicted person). Is there a nice way of saying, 'You are editing like a person with a COI?'

The language of {{uw-coi}} is very good, in my opinion, though that is for User talk rather than articles. What about:

It may be reasonably inferred that a major contributor to this article has a conflict of interest with the article subject

Too wordy perhaps. EdJohnston (talk) 16:51, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Can I ask why you merged that article? Looking at the figures in the AfD vote, there was not a majority for a merger.--MacRusgail (talk) 15:09, 9 September 2008 (UTC) p.s. Comments here.

Thanks for uploading Image:MKArcGP.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 10:57, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:MKArcGP.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MKArcGP.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 19:14, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Ubu Roi

I don't see any reason why both images can't be in the article: the first edition cover you linked to is definitely appropriate for the lead image, while Jarry's vision of Ubu is certainly worth including as well. Feel free to add the first edition cover. Cheers! 23skidoo (talk) 05:11, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

  • PS - you might want to check the template you're using when you delete images. According to my watchlist the Ubu Roi book cover image was deleted with the notice "Speedy deleted per CSD I7, was an image with an invalid fair use rationale and the uploader was notified more than 48 hours ago." This is in fact incorrect as the book image had a proper use rationale, and in addition I was not notified. This was obviously an unintended message, and obviously I have no objection to a first edition image replacing a later edition, but you might want to check you're citing the right template on the Edit Summary. Maximum Bob pictures

Hi there! Regarding [2] [3] [4], can you please post some links to or upload the pictures you are talking of? Thanks! BTW: File:Bob Barnum Maximum Bob.jpg is not replacable, since all pictures from the TV show are non-free. Why did you tag File:Maximum Bob Deli Creeps.jpg twice? Is it double "evil"? --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 16:52, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

The whole TV appearance thing is kind of moot since all these screencaps do is provide the viewer with a visual likeness of Bob. They are considered replaceable because he is still alive and touring, so it shouldn't be that hard to get someone to take a couple of snapshots of him under a free license. And yes, this goes doubly for File:Maximum Bob Deli Creeps.jpg >:) ˉˉanetode╦╩ 16:57, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
I don't know if he's still alive. Do you have any proof for this? Last time I talked to him on a message board was some months ago. Of course I hope he's still doing well, don't get me wrong on this. Also he is not touring anymore for some four years (he was last active in 2005). We did a lot of research on the topic since November 2008 and did ask on every known fan board for free pictures but couldn't find even one. At least one of those pictures should survive to illustrate the topic. I can try to contact him, maybe we'll get permission to use the two pics from the homepage. But I don't like to contact him just for this, since he usually stays out of the public as much as he can. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 17:08, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Unfortunately, within the context of Wikipedia's image policies, the term replaceable also includes the possibility of creating a free alternative. I understand that he is a private person, however it is his public persona and musical achievements which make him notable and are the foundation for any biography. It is likely that publicity stills of Maximum Bob were made by one of the record companies, or that the photographs you can find online can be traced back to a photographer willing to release them under a free license. Also, if you'd rather not bother the artist, I could send him a polite template request on behalf of Wikipedia. This is surely a chore, but an admin or image patroller would have stumbled on to these screencaps sooner or later, and Wikipedians have had very good luck in securing content for free use (see, for instance User:Videmus Omnia/Free Images). Cheers, ˉˉanetode╦╩ 17:21, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
I don't have a mail address so I only can contact him on the message board. But I'll do my best. Could I please have a bit more time than just two days? --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 17:53, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I don't have control over exactly when these images will be deleted and it would be dishonest to simply remove the tags. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 17:57, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Why not open a XfD case? --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 18:08, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Most images up for deletion never make it to WP:IFD. I suppose these can be grouped in a nomination, but that would only waste time if you're not actually going to contest the deletions. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 18:41, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
I actually contest the deletion of all three images, because I think one or two pics to illustrate the topic are justified under FU. They can be removed as soon as free ones are available of course. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 19:11, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
That's not how things work according to Wikipedia policies. Frankly, contest or not, you have about zilch chance of keeping these images indefinitely. If you wish to waste your time by contesting the deletions, add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|Your reason why a free replacement can not be found or created}} to each image description page. Chevy pre-1976 image

Hello Anetode. User:Vegavairbob let me know that you deleted File:1976 Monza Towne Coupe.jpg, and it looks like a deletion outside of policy. Your edit summary says "Speedy deleted per CSD F9, was an image that was a suspected copyright infringement, and the uploader didn't assert public domain, fair use, or a free license.", but the uploader did assert public domain. Such images should be listed at WP:PUF instead. In this case, I believe the image to be public domain for the reasons stated on the image description page.
