Hello, I'm Holly Black's assistant and she has asked me to make these changes. Can you let me know what was changed and why? Would I be able to become a moderator for this page? Thanks for your help!

Reminder

AS a reminder given your clear conflict of interest, you should refrain from editing the article directly and instead must request changes via the talk page. Praxidicae (talk) 16:27, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, AssistantAtHollyBlack. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. CrazyBoy826 17:58, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

role accounts

[edit]

Hi, AAHB! There's policy at WP:ROLE that explains that "role account" usernames are not allowed, because you can't pass your account on to the next person in that role. You need a username that is unique to you as an individual, and which will continue to be your username after you've left that role. That doesn't mean you can't make edit requests as Black's assistant; it just means your username needs to be changed. You can request a username change at Special:GlobalRenameRequest —valereee (talk) 16:35, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Yes, I get that now, hahha. I was trying to be official and that backfired, obviously. I don't mind changing my name or having other people do the changes or whatever needs to happen. However I've been requesting changes since June and I just get more reasons why I was wrong to change it in the first place. The page is even now tagged as "fan made" and encourages other people to help edit it. I'm not confident that I won't get a whole day's work reverted again if I just change my username. I honestly just want to add in new books she's written and new awards she's won, and change the 10 year old photo. Please help Valereee, you're my only hope! Re: the username: No worries, it's a common mistake, you just have to change it.
Re: reversions. Wikipedia is a collaborative effort. We actively encourage people to edit articles, and that will never change, no matter how much the article subject prefers a particular version. Changing your username won't affect whether or not your additions are changed, as any editor's work -- even many hours' worth -- can be reverted at any time by another editor. The solution is to go to the talk page and (in your case, disclosing your COI) start discussing the changes. Do you understand how to make an edit request? Full instructions are at WP:EDITREQUEST, but in general all you do is start a new section and use {{request edit}}. When you make your request, be very very specific. Best: Change "X" to "Y". (and include sources supporting the change; extra points for quoting the source's relevant text rather than making someone read a long article to figure out whether the source really supports the requested change) rather than explanations. The people who answer edit requests are busy and generally have no interest in the subject of the article. What they want is "Change 'X' to 'Y' per source Z, here's the link and I've quoted the pertinent text." Make it dead easy for us; realize we are doing for free what you're being paid to do. —valereee (talk) 19:00, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm happy to try all of that again. Maybe the editor was having a bad day that day, but I could get no answers in the Talk, and the result of me asking was for a tag to be put saying a fan tried to edit the page. I know you are all volunteers and I appreciate your efforts! I was hoping to edit the page and not bother anyone with it. I will try laying it all out again. Thanks for your help. AssistantAtHollyBlack (talk) 19:16, 8 July 2020 (UTC)assistantathollyblack[reply]

Once you've changed your username, make an edit request, and ping me to the article by using {{u|Valereee}} and signing the post (four tildes), and I'll come check it. I'm headed into a busy time so if you can do this soon, that's better. Change your username first, as someone will likely block this one soon. Please also read WP:TALK for important information on how to use talk pages. We have a steep learning curve, but if you show sincere efforts to learn, most editors here will be patient. —valereee (talk) 19:23, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Valereee:, done ;) Cheers! Nadzik (talk) 19:37, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
