Hold it!

[edit]

Please stop inserting trivia info into unrelated articles. Just how many pop shows feature a shot of the Egyptian pyramids? The NORAD show is as appropriate there as last year's beer commercial. The connection might be worth mentioning for some obscure places (hey, someone did remember it!) but ... unfortunately NORAD does not feature them. More on the subject

May I also point to the fact that quite a few editors are pissed off by association of their heritage with US military and American pop culture characters. Some discretion won't hurt.

Regards, NVO (talk) 11:32, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Since BillJohnson0003 has not responded, I've gone ahead and starting to delete the trivia he's spammed across Wikipedia. --Ronz (talk) 03:19, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What some people might consider "trivia" are really items of reference to "popular culture" that traces how a landmark, a city, and the like have been cited in movies, books, television, video games and on the internet. Also it is important to take a "Connections" approach to linking key landmarks, events, and the like together in ways that may not seem linear. BillJohnson0003 (talk) 13:19, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bill: thank you for the email response. You are wrong. Neuschwanstein, St. Basil's, Egyptian pyramids have a place in thousands of films and books, and most of these references are absolutely unimportant for these buildings/places/landmarks. Unlike the legendary Randy from Boise, here the consensus is quite strongly against you. Further insertion of irrelevant trivia will be reversed as spam. NVO (talk) 11:32, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest

Hello, based on your contributions history it seems obvious that you are not familiar with our conflict of interest rules. Please see WP:COI for important information. Hans Adler 00:03, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is important to make connections, but it is impossible and not even desirable to link back from a key cultural icon such as Neuschwanstein Castle to everything that mentions it. You are entitled to think differently, but as a single-purpose account with an obvious conflict of interest you are unlikely to convince anybody that these links are appropriate based on such a general argument. NORAD Tracks Santa

[edit]

I have tagged NORAD Tracks Santa for multiple article issues. Since you are one of the main contributors to that article, I would be glad if you could take a leading role in getting the article in line with our standards. See Talk:NORAD Tracks Santa#Multiple issues for further details. Hans Adler 09:18, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Per TomSmith0002's request have split up article. BillJohnson0003 (talk) 05:26, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Thank you. --Ronz (talk) 21:38, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on NORAD Tracks Santa Media, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of NORAD Tracks Santa Media and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Ronz (talk) 00:54, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Note I've tagged History of NORAD Tracks Santa and NORAD Tracks Santa Corporate Sponsorship and Partners for the same reasons. There's a centralized discussion at Talk:NORAD_Tracks_Santa#Splitting_this_up_into_seven_different_articles_is_not_the_answer. Please join the discussion there. --Ronz (talk) 00:57, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FYI conflict of interest guideline

[edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you.

If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia in NORAD Tracks Santa Corporate Sponsorship and Partners or other articles, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. – Athaenara 01:05, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ronz - I have seen that Wikipedia articles of Star Trek, Caprica (TV series), Smallville, and Stargate each have an encyclopedic set of entries and provide access to fan Wikis such as Star Trek Wiki, Caprica and Battlestar Wiki, Smallville Wiki, Stargate Wiki.

What is the issue in having the same with the NORAD Tracks Santa article having a Wiki access of [NORAD Tracks Wiki] for the devotees of the effort. As Simon Peter Hughes phrased it quite well on the NORAD Tracks Santa Talk Page "I think such a link (to NORAD Tracks Wiki) here (at the NORAD Tracks Santa Wikipedia article) could prevent further grief in the future. Simon Peter Hughes (talk)" That I whole heartily agree with !!!

Besides why do these Wikipedia articles of Wikipedia articles of Star Trek, Caprica (TV series), Smallville, and Stargate each have an encyclopedic set of entries and provide access to fan Wikis such as Star Trek Wiki, Caprica and Battlestar Wiki, Smallville Wiki, Stargate Wiki for devotees and not NORAD Tracks Santa ??? Please explain that !!! Otherwise it seem like a "double-standard."

Check the NORAD Tracks Santa Talk page for "Where previous versions of the article could go and a Link to a NORAD Tracks Santa Wiki from the Wikipedia Article" BillJohnson0003 (talk) 02:44, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:NTS Space Foundation Cert Imagine Logo W.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:NTS Space Foundation Cert Imagine Logo W.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. XXN, 14:05, 4 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Ded Moroz Blue.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused personal photo, see WP:HOST

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
