Cheers! Thank you for asking. I got Primitivo Martínez's birth date from page 101 of the book Legends and Heroes of Philippine Basketball by Christian Bocobo and Beth Celis. It was printed in 2004 in the Philippines by The House Printers. Hope this helps.

That explains why whenever the Philippine team loses in any international tournament, it really hurts a lot for the people, me included as I myself am a frustrated basketball player.

Hi! Sorry for the very late reply as I've been very busy as of late. The book has information only for the following players of that fabled 1936 Philippine basketball team: Primitivo Martinez, Charles Borck, Ambrosio Padilla, and Jacinto Ciria Cruz. It doesn't list the death dates of any of the players or the birth date of Ciria Cruz, though. However, as far as Ciria Cruz is concerned, what I know is that he was killed by the Japanese forces sometime during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in World War II.

Hi. Thanks for your notes. Like I said, I'm relatively new to wikipedia from an editing perspective, so I was unaware about Wikipedia:COI.

I read the COI article, and am particularly interested in the section, 'How to avoid COI edits'. Under that section, it states, "...If you have a conflict of interest avoid, or exercise great caution when:

  1. Editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with,
  2. Participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors,
  3. Linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);

         and you must always:

  4. Avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography."

The reason I am asking you to review my work is specifically to ensure that it is not in violation of Wikipedia's policies. I'm seeking transparency, and I should mention that I'm doing this out of my own personal interest.

In any case, I just want to go through proper procedure and determine if my work should be allowed to stand, or should be deleted.

1) I did not avoid editing the article, but I did exercise caution. I didn't make any even remotely controversial statements or claims. 2) Obviously not relevant 3) Not relevant 4) NPOV is a little iffy -- I obviously have an internal bias, but I avoided making any controversial statements, and only added relatively basic information (such as basic facts, like 'Climate Change Connection is an initiative to provide public education and outreach to Manitobans about [Climate Change]. This organization takes the position that man-made climate change is occurring.' I didn't state any political belief about climate change, but merely that Climate Change Connection has a certain political belief, and what they do with it.)

Verifiability is also a little bit questionable, but much less so than NPOV, because although there were no third-party sources, all the claims were so basic that they were really a question of facts. I don't know what sort of third party source is necessary to verify a statement as simple as "It is a regional affiliate of the Canadian Environmental Network, based in Ottawa. The Manitoba Eco-Network is a network for approximately 50 environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGO's) throughout the province." Obviously a third party source is ideal, but I personally feel that such a statement is simple enough that a first-party source is at least better than nothing. After all, many articles don't have sources for statements that are completely uncontroversial, such as the majority of this article is.

Obviously autobiography does not apply.

So, basically, I'm inclined to believe that my edits are probably acceptable from within the policies of Wikipedia that I am aware of so far. But, I hardly know any of them, and I also am not the most reliable judge of whether or not my edits are acceptable.

And I hate vandalism, both in real life and on Wikipedia, so I appreciate you taking the time to verify my work and ensure that you feel it does not violate the terms of Wikipedia. But, in the interest of integrity, if you feel in any way that something I have written should be deleted -- even all of my edits -- then please feel free to go ahead. I just want to make sure that the most reliable, informative, and accurate articles are available on Wikipedia, and it made sense to me to start my first edit at my place of employment, because I'm quite interested in it.

I think that, aside from all of this, it is simple common sense to say: these people are looking for a neutral, balanced article on this organization and I, as a member of the organization, should not be involved in directly writing the article. We do welcome your help and sources that can help write the article, but it is difficult to be neutral when writing about something you are involved in; even things on a sub-conscious level or from a perspective that you are not aware of can slip in. In any case, I will review the article later today or tomorrow and see if there is anything that needs to be taken out - I don't see a need to remove all of the edits, but I think once I go through it and maybe add a tag or two, everything should be good, so don't worry! Last male from GB athletics team in 1936 has died

As per Athletics International newsletter #31 "Frederick Richard ‘Dick’ WEBSTER (GBR) (b. 31 Dec 1914) died in October, aged 94. He was the last male survivor of the British athletics team at the Olympic Games in 1936...". These newsletters often have obituaries for Olympic athletes aged 90+ almost all of whom are not on your list but hopefully the "last survivor" comment will help. Hi. The year of death can be found in the link that I added under "external links" - it's a record of her death from the England & Wales Death Index. As for "peacock terms", these are essentially words that describe something with very positive traits, but do not explain why. A more detailed explanation can be found here. In general it's best to let the facts speak for themselves: instead of saying someone is really important or the greatest, explain what actually went on and let the reader decide for themselves. Reading through the article, the only sentence I could find that might be troublesome is "Her artwork is both clean-cut and winsome: an unmistakable style.", which doesn't sound very neutral or encyclopedic. Other than that, everything is very factual, so if that is cleaned up, I think the peacock tag can be removed. Cheers, CP 20:44, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Reverting

Hi! I reverted your addition of a death date for Ivar Mathisen. While it might be true, I can't find a single source for this. We can't include such a grave claim without a single source. And a Wikipedia is not trustworthy in this context. The page history in Norwegian Wikipedia also notes that a different Ivar Mathisen was buried on 7 October 2008! That said, I can't find Ivar Mathisen born 1920 in the Norwegian tax lists, so he might no longer be. But we have to find out for sure. Geschichte (talk) 11:50, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

GA Sweeps update

Thanks to everyone's efforts to the GA Sweeps process, we are currently over 90% done with only 226 articles remain to be swept! Well she wasn't on the list of living Britons born before 1903... that combined with the fact that if she was 107 and still alive, someone probably would have noticed makes me think she's deceased. Someone disagreed and reverted my edit to her page, which is fine, but I don't think that there's much point re-adding her to Talk:List of centenarians or my personal list. After all, the "possible centenarians" list should be more about "people about whom we could find if we had the proper sources" rather than "people whose life/death isn't recorded in any non-original sources". Unless a relative stops by or an expert genealogist stops by, we're unlikely to learn her date of death. Cheers, CP 02:29, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Cut and paste help

Hi Paulie, not sure if this is your area of expertise, but you're an expert-in-general here as far as I'm concerned. I was wondering about the Skyhook system after watching The Dark Knight and I saw a Talk page concern from 2006 wondering about how the cut and paste from another site jives with Wiki policy. Not sure if I know what you mean, since I don't see that talk page concern, but generally cut and paste is frowned upon unless the page has an acceptable license that allows one to use it for any purpose freely. Failing that, if there happens to be something brief or short that would be difficult or impossible to restate otherwise, you can directly quote it and then place the relevant citation for the quote immediately after. Good to know. When I read the source article, a lot of the text seemed familiar, to say the least. The concern was under the heading "Needs work" in the Discussion page. Actually, now that I look at it (talk page link is broken, go to article's reference), I remember that it's a CIA site and their copyright notice says unless marked it's in the public domain. Oldest Olympian List

Hi, I have taken a browse through your list and have the following potential leads for updates. I haven't updated the individual articles yet as I'm only about 90% sure the records I have found are the correct individuals.

Margery Hinton - There is an individual with this name listed in the England & Wales Death Index having died in February 1996 in Manchester. DOB given as 25 June 1915 which matches.
Vera Kingston - Again in the England & Wales Death Index, an individual with the name Vera Robinson is listed as having died in September 1996 in Leicester - again the birth date of 4 February 1917 matches that shown in the article. Looking through the birth index she is shown as being born in Leicester and there's also a marriage in 1942 to Christopher Robinson also in Leicester.

I may be able to assist with some more of the British individuals on your list. Would you consider inserting a column into your table for the nation each individual represented?

Wow, thanks for the info! I forwarded your findings to Hilary Evans, the genealogy expert who works with the OlyMADMen of Sports Reference.com and he agrees that the records refer to the Olympic athletes. The findings will be updated in the Sports Reference.com site in a month or two, but I'd say that the updates can probably be updated now, sourced to the England and Wales Deaths Index.

As for the country column, I already do that on my other nonagenarian page, and I find that it adds to the load time, so I'm not certain as to whether or not I want to do that for this list. I can for now, however, list the remaining British athletes on the list who haven't been confirmed alive recently:

Mostyn Ffrench-Williams - There is a Mostyn Y Ffrench-Williams who died in 1963 in St Austell, Cornwall aged 47. Whilst the unusual name matches, the age is slightly different and it is far from his place of birth, so I can't be sure.
Walter Pack - died 3rd quarter 1974 in Worthing, Sussex
Frederick Simpson (boxer) - born 18 Jun 1916, died 1st quarter 1975 in Basingstoke, Hampshire.
Zilpha Grant - think she married Samuel Wheelton in 1943 in Manchester. No death record found under this married surname.

Reverting a Major Edit

I was hoping for help in reverting a major edit of a page you once commented on. I am an extremely part time wikipedia reader who just occasionally corrects a word here or there. But the Scots-Quebecer page was edited on September 30, 2009 by someone in a major way that possibly involved some cutting and pasting or something. It now includes the pronoun "I". I went to revert or undo and that was not possible, the change must be made manually. As I am a non-Canadian, you might know more about this pages' topic, as well. Resurrection & divorce

Fair enough - I should have included a reference for Nadav Levitan's passing. But surely, before bringing the guy back to life in a click of a mouse, you could have googled for a few seconds - to find that he did, indeed, pass away on said date of an undisclosed lung disease? http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1142076.html

Also, not clear why you removed the fact of his marriage to Israel's most prominent singer (Chava Alberstein). That's also pretty easy to verify.

Actually, I did do a Google search for his death, and nothing come up on the web or in Google News. Note that that article was posted 21 minutes ago as of this writing, therefore it's hardly surprising that I didn't find it when I searched yesterday. I always give these the benefit of the doubt, but if nothing comes up, the burden of proof for the information is on the person who added it, not the person removing it. February GA Sweeps update

GA Sweeps Completed!

Thanks to everyone's amazing efforts in February, we have reviewed all of the articles and are now finished with Sweeps! There are still about 30 articles currently on hold, and once those reviews are completed, I will send you a final message about Sweeps process stats including the total number of articles that were passed and failed. If you have one of these open reviews, be sure to update your count when the review is completed so I can compile the stats. You can except to receive your award for reviewing within the next week or two. Although the majority of the editors did not start Sweeps at the beginning in August 2007 (myself included), over 50 editors have all come together to complete a monumental task and improve many articles in the process. I commend you for sticking with this often challenging task and strengthening the integrity of the GA WikiProject as well as the GAs themselves. I invite you to take a break from reviewing (don't want you to burn out!) and then consider returning/starting to review GANs and/or contribute to GAR reviews. With your assistance, we can help bring the backlog down to a manageable level and help inspire more editors to improve articles to higher classes and consider reviewing themselves. Kriaras

The English article claims to have been derived from the Greek article which states "28 Νοεμβρίου 1906". I therefore thought this must be the right date. Jonathan Groß (talk) 19:12, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Apparently this fellow thinks that "all biographies" state November 28th. This is true for some Greek newspapers (example) whereas this laudatio claims "15/28 Νεομβρίου του 1906". Also, some blogs say it's November 29th (see Google results). I have found one printed record for November 28th: via Google Book Search. None for April. Perhaps you should look more closely at the edit history. The article was created four years ago, long before my memory stretches and long before I had the faintest clue of WP's internal workings. I wasn't rude, I was honest. The way you wrote it made it appear as if I should somehow have been either well aware, or made a recent mistake. Had you said something to the effect of 'I know it's ancient but I thought I'd run it by you' I would not have thought you'd missed the fact it was coming up for its fourth birthday this year. The style was more appropriate for if I had done it last year, where I most certainly should have been addressed thus. I aimed only to make a gentle reminder to be careful, and I'm sorry if you interpreted my manner as anything else, for that was not my intention.
