API well number
[edit]Hello again! Thanks for your recent work on API well number and Mud logging as well as various other contributions. It's clear you have a lot of useful expertise in these areas. I noticed you weren't sure how best to go about doing references. In general, the preferred method is the way you did the two footnotes currently on API well number. You'll notice I gave the first one a name="", and then used it again later down the page. On Wikipedia, this is preferred to "ibid". The other inline links should either be turned into references, or treated as additional "External links" at the bottom of the article. For the text of the citations, you may like to use predefined templates like {{cite journal}}, {{cite web}}, etc.
For more introduction you might find Wikipedia:Tutorial helpful. Any specific questions you have, feel free to ask. BigBlueFish (talk) 21:40, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of API well numbers
[edit]A tag has been placed on API well numbers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Sean0987 (talk) 04:01, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Extra links
[edit]Thanks for upgrading the history bits for Colfax County! Just a couple of things: you don't need to link multiple times to the same article in a single paragraph, and linking to the article in itself (for example, linking to Cimarron while on the Cimarron article) is unnecessary. Please don't take this as a warning: it's simply saying thanks-for-working-and-here's-how-to-work-even-better. Nyttend (talk) 02:40, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
National Register
[edit]Thanks for adding the articles on Raton Downtown Historic District and Cimarron Historic District. If you're interested in this sort of thing, you might like to participate in the WikiProject National Register of Historic Places. There's an NRHP infobox generator available that speeds up the formatting and automatically sets up at least some of the referencing. Keep up the good work! Acroterion (talk) 01:19, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the invitation. Of course, I would love to join since I seem to be a heritage tourist. I will try the infobox. Can you help me by telling me how to break the redirect from Colfax County Courthouse in Springer to Colfax County Courthouse (which is in Raton. Thanks a millionCaveman1949 (talk) 01:39, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Do you want it deleted? In general, you'll see a back-reference to the parent redirect at the top of the article once you've arrived at the target. Just click that link and edit it. Acroterion (talk) 01:41, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
I am a beginner (obviously) so I saw the back-reference, but I am not sure how to edit it. The instructions in Wikipedia the Missing Manual are not clear. ThanksCaveman1949 (talk) 01:50, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- What would you like to do with it? Basically, having jumped over to the redirect, you just hit the edit tab and replace the redirect script with the desired content. It looks to me like it's a relatively pointless redirect left over from a page move, and it may be safely deleted (which I can do as an admin, but you can't). Acroterion (talk) 02:00, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- I went ahead and broke the redirect by removing the # at the start of the script. Acroterion (talk) 02:03, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- I take it that the county seat in Colfax County has moved around, hence courthouses in different places? We could just move the article back. Acroterion (talk) 02:10, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- A name more in keeping with the manual of style would be Colfax County Courthouse (Springer, New Mexico). Acroterion (talk) 02:11, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Please move the existing content to Colfax County Courthouse (Springer, New Mexico) Should my next article be Colfax County Courthouse (Raton, New Mexico) even though that is not the name in the NR? Then I can do a disambig page for Colfax County Courthouse. My firstCaveman1949 (talk) 02:19, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- You can do that: just use the move tab and the reason can be "manual of style". I'll delete the old ... in Springer article. Acroterion (talk) 02:24, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
You don't have to use the NRHP name - I usually (but not always) make a redirect for the National Register name if it seems right. Acroterion (talk) 02:26, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Your first move! I would note, though, that the parenthetical form I suggested is preferred. Acroterion (talk) 02:33, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- I tidied a little bit: you had a space between Springer and the comma - I moved it again and deleted the old versions and tidied the redirects. Don't worry, I screw up moves with typos frequently. If the Raton courthouse is an NRHP property, go ahead and make an article, and then Colfax County Courthouse can be a disambig page. Acroterion (talk) 02:43, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello Acroterion. Can you delete page called Colfax County Courthouse which redirects to Colfax County Courthouse (Springer, New Mexico)? I have created my first disambiguation page Colfax County Courthouse (disambiguation) , but I can't get it up and running until that link gets broken. I think I need an administrator to do that.Caveman1949 (talk) 21:47, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
My worst nightmare. There is also a Colfax County Courthouse (Schuyler, Nebraska) on the National Register. Since it is called simply Colfax County Courthouse that link has turned blue and redirects to the Springer Courthouse. Can you fix that too? ThanksCaveman1949 (talk) 22:04, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Done. You can move Colfax County Courthouse (disambiguation) to Colfax County Courthouse now, which is a little tidier,
and insert a redlink to the future Colfax County Courthouse (Schuyler, Nebraska) in.Acroterion (talk) 22:23, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
don't overlook the NHLs
[edit]Hi Caveman1949, welcome to wp:NRHP. I see your interest expressed for NRHPs in Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Please, don't overlook the NRHPs that are also National Historic Landmarks, at List of NHLs in CO, List of NHLs in NM, and List of NHLs in WY. I and some others have been specializing in working on the NHL lists and we would really like to get pics for them all and to develop their articles.
Please feel free to post questions or comments at wt:NRHP, and post any new articles you create in the New articles box within the wp:NRHP main page. Have fun! doncram (talk) 01:02, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

The Palace Hotel On 1st St and Cook Ave.
[edit]Hi, Caveman.
I've seen your numerous contributions and was hoping you may be kind enough to help me.
I am looking for information on the Palace Hotel located in the Historical District in Raton. It is listed as number 23 and is located on the corner of 1st street and Cook ave. Between 1975-77, I was a teenager and live and worked there. I am now researching the building's history and appreciate anything you can provide.
Thank you in advance.

RE: Cite Book
[edit]Hola!
Tips for using the Cite Book taglette:
If you are using the entire publication, leave "pages" section blank. This is to be used if you are referencing certain pages (like p.124. or pp.189-193.), not the total number of pages contained in the publication.
Also, if you are only referencing one page from a publication, you can remove the "s" from the word "pages" and it will delete one "p", thus making "pp." look like "p."
- pages or page: "|pages= 5–7" produces pp. 5–7, while "|page= 5" produces p. 5. The "pp." notation indicating multiple pages, and "p." notation indicating a single page, are placed automatically when you choose between the plural (pages) or singular (page) form of the parameter. These parameters are for listing the pages relevant to the citation, not the total number of pages in the book.
- nopp: using "page" or "pages", automatically places the p. or pp. notations. If this is inappropriate—for instance, if page=Front cover, placing any value after nopp will hide the p. or pp. notation.
You can also remove all of those useless spaces. This really helps when Cite Book is used in a large paragraph or sections of text.
If you don't have an ISBN, you can add an OCLC like this:
- |OCLC= 21705239
Which makes it look like this:

Disambiguation link notification for August 19
[edit]Hi. When you recently edited Trabing Station-Crazy Woman Crossing, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Fort Reno (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

DYK for EDZ Irigary Bridge
[edit]On 7 September 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article EDZ Irigary Bridge, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that of all the county bridges currently in use in Wyoming, EDZ Irigary Bridge has the longest clear span? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/EDZ Irigary Bridge. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
