[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

Economy
[edit]I restored the section and added the Daily Mail, which is HQed in Kensington.
You said: "Removed Economy section as it seems to exist only to show an Angolan oil company"
It exists to show whoever is there.
And "there's plenty of examples of companies based here and that's not necessarily typical" - What sources say that there are plenty of such companies here? Are there sources saying that these companies exist there? WhisperToMe (talk) 16:18, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
I agree that putting as much information into Wikipedia as possible is generally good but there are numerous companies headquartered in Kensington and Chelsea - it's the richest borough in the UK - with South Kensington, Knightsbridge, Notting Hill and Kensington High Street in it. If you're an international company and have a registered office Europe, chances are it will be in Westminster, K&C or out at Canary Wharf. In the Daily Mail building alone there are 40 companies listed (visible inside the door), across the road is Sony Music, around the corner is EMI Records (and subsidiaries), and up the road is Warners. A Google search of (suburb) and headquarters will reveal a lot more and I'd guess you'd find thousands if not tens of thousands if you did a search in Companies House. While the Daily Mail, any of the media groups, and Harrods are well known in the UK and around the world, have distinctive street frontages, and have hundreds if not thousands of employees contributing to the area, I'm not sure a representative office of an Angolan is necessarily representative of the area.Escottf (talk) 09:42, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Thanks
[edit]Hello, thanks for all the Warsaw-related contributions. Terrific job! No worries about the inscription on the Warsaw Ghetto Heroes monument - it is English translation, we have it in Polish, Hebrew and Yiddish only. Thanks, again. Boston9 (talk) 22:26, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
No worries, I have a bit of time on my hands (as I'm still looking for work in Warsaw) so decided to click on lots of things about Warsaw to learn more about the place (as a mental collector of trivia). I've burrowed down from district level and clicked on anything I didn't think I'd read yet. As I'm correcting, I'm learning a lot. As I've mentioned before, I'd rather have information to correct or improve on than no information at all - that's why Wikipedia is great. Warsaw's got so much history too. Your thanks are appreciated!!! Escottf (talk) 12:35, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks on behalf of the Wikipedia-Warsaw Branch:) If you would like to see some of the places you have edited, the ones which migh be challenging to discover on your own, like former Warsaw Ghetto area (almost everything had changed here, and some buildings/places are well hidden), let me know. Will be very happy to show you Muranów. I have translated one of my articles into English -> Warsaw Ghetto boundary markers. On Sunday 19th we have our monthly meeting of Warsaw wikipedians [1]. Feel invited (13th anniversary of Polish Wikipedia i.e. a cake will be served:)). Can be combined with some Warsaw sightseeing before the event if you want. Boston9 (talk) 15:23, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much! I've explored a bit but still have a lot to go so I may take you up one day on the offer of a tour. Sadly I'm going to miss the Wikipedia meet as I have a family engagement to go to :( Thanks again! Escottf (talk) 22:10, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for this nice article. In the future, please consider adding inline citations. If you do that, your articles could be eligible for Wikipedia:Did you know front page feature. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 16:23, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
Hello, Escottf. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Shelly Park Primary School, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:
- edit the page
- remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- save the page
Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Barney the barney barney (talk) 13:59, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Grzybowski Square, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Poland/East/Mazowieckie/Warsaw/photo1320702.htm.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.
If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages
[edit]Thank you for your recent articles, including Monument to the Heroes of Warsaw, which I read with interest. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. This can help you too, as the WikiProject members will often defend your work from deletion and try to improve it further. Feel free to ask me any questions if you'd like more information. I want to thank you for translating this article. It was a topic of some interest to a missing Wikipedian of old, User:Irpen, a colleague of mine from some time ago. Since he is no longer here, I want to thank you in his stead; I know he would appreciate seeing this entry. Cheers, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:57, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
Inline citations and did you know
[edit]I'd like to encourage you to add inline citations to your articles; it would make the eligible for Did You Know. While I know you are primarily translating content from pl wiki, doing so makes it less likely that content will be featured (since your articles are often large, a 5x expansion required for DYKs is quite difficult). I don't want to discourage you from editing - you are doing wonderful job - I just want to see if you can look for more inline cites. I and other members of WP:POLAND can help, of course. How about you ask us for help in DYKing some articles you start, let's say once or twice a week for the most interesting entries you've written in the past few days? PS. Some of your articles are stubs, not start class. A rule of thumb is <250 words. I use User:Dr pda/prosesize.js for a nice and easy counter. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:22, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

DYK for Monument to the Fallen and Murdered in the East
[edit]On 20 March 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Monument to the Fallen and Murdered in the East, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the Monument to the Fallen and Murdered in the East (pictured) commemorates victims of the Soviet invasion of Poland during World War II and subsequent repressions? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Monument to the Fallen and Murdered in the East. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Ways to improve Tchorka plaques
[edit]Hi, I'm Matty.007. Escottf, thanks for creating Tchorka plaques!
I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. I actually think the translation on this is pretty good, hence no tag. However, categories and refs are fairly vital.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. Matty.007 16:55, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
Hi Escottf! By accident I find this page and I was very suprised and touched (in the positive sense of course). It took me and my collegaues from pl.wiki a lot of work to photograph and describe all this plaques. However I didn't expect that some native English speaker will ever translate this article and put on en.wiki. Thanks a lot!Dreamcatcher25 (talk) 12:46, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- My congratulation too. It's very important and huge job. Thanks. --Pablo000 (talk) 13:32, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks folks! These guys did absolutely amazing work creating the Polish page I converted to English. An unusual case of not just researching and creating pages but going out to all corners of Warsaw to take photographs of the locations (of which there were a LOT). I just had to sit at my computer and guess how Google Translate had brutalised Polish ;) It's really nice knowing that as I walk down the streets of Warsaw and see these plaques, I not only know what they are, I can look up what happened easily now (and for many years, I've often wondered as there are rarely English language information at these sites). Brilliant! Escottf (talk) 14:14, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Escottf, it has been a long time somebody impressed me so much as you did. Hats off! Terrific job, congratulations and my sincere gratitute. Thanks to you English-speaking world now knows much more about these, so often overlooked, elements of Warsaw's landcsape. PS. Still hope we will meet in person one day in Warsaw. Boston9 (talk) 07:58, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
- I'll make it to one of those Wikipedia meets one of these days ;) Like I said, someone did the original - I only copied it. It took time but it was still just a copy of some amazing work. I am glad that someone in English will be able to see it though. If nothing else, *I* can use it ;) Also, looking at the contribution history of many on Wikipedia - stunning amounts of work. Mine before the translations tended to be minor edits. The creators are the kings (or queens). Escottf (talk) 12:19, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Escottf, I am still speechless when I realize how much effort you put into this, but I have a question regarding the title: the name of the guy was Karol Tchorek, should not be "Tchorek plaques"? "Tchorka" in our Polish article title comes from our crazy grammar of ours which typically requires "a" or "i" when the the noun answers the question "whose", "made by whom" etc. So we have "Kopiec Kościuszki" or "Muzeum Fryderyka Chopina" in Polish, but "Kościuszko Mound" and "Fryderyk Chopin Museum" in English. But you are a native speaker, so you feel this beetter. Boston9 (talk) 17:09, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hello again Boston9! That's my ignorance of Polish (still - I need to try harder). If you think Tchorek plaques is more appropriate go right ahead. I bumped into even more of the same problem with Pomnik Kościuszkowców - which in English seems to be something vaguely impossible like Kościuszko's's monument ;) When I rely on Google Translate, and my barely existent knowledge of Polish, I'm the least likely authority on anything! As for the work done - I'm still amazed at the original Polish article...and still wondering how or if it'll stay up-to-date. Just seeing how seemingly old plaques are still getting changed - with new placements on buildings, the City adding some English translations (which may help the poorly translated ones here) and completely upgraded surroundings (in the case of Gorchewska Street's) it is a little daunting! PS: I did make it to a Wikipedia meetup - once - but it was in summer so everyone was too busy enjoying the sun ;) Escottf (talk) 17:49, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hey, and why didn't you tell me? My invitation to beer is still (plus some sightseeing?) is still open. Please carry on with your great job. PS. I will move this to "Tchorek plaques". Boston9 (talk) 19:03, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Cleanup for you
[edit]Hey. I just spend my weekly four hours reviewing User:AlexNewArtBot/PolandSearchResult and this time I have something for you to help out, if you wouldn't mind :) Draft:Korczak's Last Walk: A Sculpture by Nathan Rapoport: can you review and copyedit anon's Draft:The memorial in memory of the Jewish children who perished in the Holocaust and Draft:Korczak's Last Walk: A Sculpture by Nathan Rapoport, which seem related to pl:Pomniki Janusza Korczaka w Warszawie? (If you reply here, please echo me - thanks!). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 10:31, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking into that. You may want to leave a brief review on the draft's talk page for the author (anonymous, so it's not like we can contact them in any other way...). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:44, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
Hi, we need the Permanent link for the version of this article that you copied from the Polish Wikipedia to satisfy the copyright and licensing requirements for Creative Commons and GFDL. It should be located on the left navigation area in the equivalent Tools area. You can post it as an edit summary or to the article's Talk page. Thanks. --dsprc [talk] 01:23, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
I've put a link to the specific version I ran through Google Translate in the talk page - which is barely different from the current version. Escottf (talk) 11:54, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- Please read about how {{ill}} functions. It is the better way to link to foreign wikipedias. Using the {{ill}} which is a red link and has another interlanguage link in parenthesis. When a page is created in the English language Wikipedia, the foreign interlanguage link will not be shown. It makes clear what is in English and what is not. —BoBoMisiu (talk) 15:19, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for April 9
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Electronic Data Systems, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Medicare and Herding cats. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:17, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks DPL bot ;) I've left the Herding cats one in because the disambiguation page shows the meaning of herding cats. If someone takes issue with that, it's probably best to de-link it entirely. The Medicare one I fixed thanks to the bot's highlighting of it. Escottf (talk) 13:06, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Please refrain from trying to fix grammar issues when your new version is different but not really better. Also do not delete sourced content stating its "less relevant" now as this is inacceptable behavior. We added the content and keep it to show a development over time. Further guideline violations will be reported to the admins at the aviation portal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.244.134.220 (talk) 12:54, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
My grammar fixes may not be perfect, but most edits are usually improvements (it's unacceptable, not inacceptable). Wikipedia also isn't about keeping every single piece of information (quite the opposite normally) - even in the aviation section of it. Heathrow has moved data out or removed it altogether. Even in Warsaw, Warsaw Chopin's discount terminal has gone from a paragraph or more to a mere sentence. And I have been following the developments at Modlin, have edited, added to it, updated it, and provided many original references and sources in the first place all the way back to 2008. Guidelines also say you should be signing your posts to talk articles and refer me to admins as much as you like - fill your profile in while you're at it. Escottf (talk) 19:16, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Proposed deletion of List of Orthodox churches destroyed as part of the recovery of churches in the Second Republic
[edit]The article List of Orthodox churches destroyed as part of the recovery of churches in the Second Republic has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Unsourced for almost 10 years, clearly not notable.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Veverve (talk) 14:16, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
@Veverve:) Hi Veverve - I added a source link which is a category page on Polish Wikipedia to the Talk page. While I don't think the page will ever be updated - unless someone creates pages to some of the lost churches - I think it's an indicator of how many churches were lost during that period - especially connected with the linked article and summary. I'm not actively an editor on Wikipedia now (I was heavily involved in editing back in 2013) so am not aware of updates on those churches. If we had a category page - I don't think it would sum up the destruction that happened (admittedly in the circumstances some was politically related destruction - some was "there isn't a 'flock' left to support the upkeep of the church). I don't think the continued existence of the page does harm. --Escottf (talk) 15:46, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
