Hi it's been a while had to sort out vandalism by user BKLisenbee on a few pages. Funny thing as I actually know the guy. he was one of the "set" around Paul Bowles in tangier. very anti Moroccan people. Hope u are well. He should be blocked from those pages though. Hope u are well. Been in Morocco twice this year working in Joujouka and bringing group to Porto for a concert. Link to photos on their page frankrynne opiumjones 23 19:54, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I almost blocked this guy for going around like some hyperactive pov pusher, but according to encyclopedia britannica al-biruni actually is a persian, so i want to put that back, if you don't mind. —Ruud 18:58, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edits

[edit]

All of the edits I have made were appropriate. The specific scientists are indeed Persian. Their religion is irrelevent. You can see for yourself that all other sources prove this fact. You really should research the information before you make edits. You dont have the authority to go around pushing your own opinions as fact. I will be filing a complaint with Wikipedia if this continues.Dariush4444 22:37, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Song recognition request

[edit]

I heard a song with French lyrics and Arab music (must be from Morocco/Algeria/Tunisia) on the Buddha Bar collection. It goes something like "j'voudrais etre un fauteuil dans un salon d'coiffure pour dammes." Do you know which song it is? Thanks! deeptrivia (talk) 00:55, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Fayssal! I agree it's awesome music. Hope to hear more of it. Regards, deeptrivia (talk) 18:02, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fayssal. I'm interested in writing an article on the freize in the US Supreme Court (which includes a depiction of Muhammad, amongst various other lawgivers), and I'm curious whether the Arabic visible in this image is actually a legitimate quote from the Qur'an, and if so what verse is being quoted. Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

[edit]
Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.

Moroccan artists

[edit]

Hi, would you by any chance know anything about the composer Abdeslam Amer? I was able to get some info from a relative (DOB and some music), but it's not enough to start a page about him. He composed music for the "Rahila" song by Mohamed Al Hayani and "Al qamar al ahmar" by Belkhayat, and he was at the radio station the day of the 1st coup d'etat in Morocco... Would be very nice to have something about him. Thanks --Angelikmeg 03:49, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi FayssalF, thank you very much for the links and tips. The letter looks good to me (I will make some few changes in style though) and will contact the magazine as suggested. Don't forget to check out my user talk page for updates, the article on Abdeslam Amer may be live very soon :-). Cheers --Angelikmeg 20:38, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trance music

[edit]

Hi. As part of the Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links project I was making links to the Trance disambiguation page point to the relevant article.

I noticed that you have edited both the Gnawa and Joujouka articles and wondered if you could help me determine where the best place for the "trance" links on these pages would be. Both articles refer to "trance music" which does not seem to be the electronic dance music developed in the 1990s described in the trance music article.

From reading other articles it seems that this "trance music" is music that is used to enter an altered state of consciousness so perhaps the links should point to that article.

However, maybe using the words "trance music" is this sense is misleading. Is "trance music" commonly used to describe this type of music?

I look forward to you input on this matter.

Thanks, --Matthew Auger 22:21, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

[edit]
The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

Automatic Edit Summaries

Hi-- I saw your response to another user at General Complaints, and thought I might ask you the following. A couple of days ago I posted a suggestion about Automatic Edit Summaries that I thought would draw some kind of response, whether "Yeah, great idea" or "That's a stupid idea because...". Instead, nothing at all. Is this the wrong place for the post, does it make no sense as written, or is there some other reason I'm not seeing? I'd be grateful for any suggestions. How do I report a non-persistant vandal?

[edit]

You removed report I made on the Administrator intervention against vandalism page, because the vandal I listed had not vandalised Wikipedia in some time. Now, I've gone through the vandalism page on Wikipedia, but it does not seem that there is a page for reporting occasional vandals. It frustrates me because this particular vandal will never be stopped, because he can't be classified as persistent vandal. It would bothersome to run to an Admin every single time someone vandalises Wikipedia, so what can I do about this guy, and others like him? Where do I go for policy reform on vandals? Stiles 21:20, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, here's the comment I made on the AIAV page:

  • Vik Vah (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) This member has repeatedly vandalised Wikipedia, even after being warned. I have warned him four times, and never once did he defend his actions, let alone discontinue vandalising. In almost every article he vandalised, he, along with someone else who seems to be a partner-in-crime, mentions a non-existant rapper by the name of Sheesh Hots. For the record, there is no such rapper, so why is he being mentioned? On many occasions, Vik Vah and his partners (if they are not all the same person) talk about how this Sheesh Hots has a relationship of some sort to the person the article is about. Again, how is it possible to have a relationship with someone who does not exist? This is blatant vandalism, and it is clear that it is easier for vandals to vandalise, than for a concerned Wikipedia member to do something about it. I kindly ask that Administrators look into this and immediately ban Vik Vah permanently, because a warning, I promise, will not deter him. Stiles 19:36, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You indefinitely blocked a school IP

[edit]

Hi Fayssal. The IP you indefinitely blocked recently, 205.167.47.1 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), is a high school IP whose contributions history clearly shows is used by more than one user, sometimes in good faith (e.g. [2]). Please consider reducing the length of its block. Even non-shared IPs are rarely blocked indefinitely, as they can be transferred to different users. --Sam Blanning(talk) 18:28, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A WHOIS lookup clearly shows that the IP is registered to Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District [3]. I recommend you get popups if you don't have it already, it gives you a quick and easy link to lookup IPs' registration. --Sam Blanning(talk) 18:37, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Iran-Arab Relations - how to link?

[edit]

Hi, on my talk page you said: "Please don't add Iran-Arab relations to individual country pages! You can add it to general Arab articles as Arab league."

However, The Iran-Arab relations page contains historical, and current information on the foreign relations of Iran & each individual arab country. Hence why it was added to the foreign relations pages of all of those countries as a See Also link (where the countries had foreign relations pages). I think it should remain there in order to allow others to get a full picture. The alternative is to break it out by country- but then you would just get a mass of short heavily inter-related articles. Any opinion?

Hi Faysal

I have been working for a few weeks on a new article: Arabic influence on the Spanish language. Its turning out to be harder than I thought and since I am pretty new to wikipedia, I thought you (and other wikipedians u may know) might find this subject interesting and could give me a hand. I am having a lot of trouble especially, with the transliteration from Arab script to latin, I dont know which method to use qalam seemed the easiest but maybe its not the best...Other standards dont seem to be recognized by wikipedia.

Here is a link to the article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_influence_on_the_Spanish_language

Anyways it would be nice if you could help.

Cheers --Guzman ramirez 16:23, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cool thanks Faysal. For the moment Ill just write the transliteration of arabic words without following any particular system. They can be checked later on.

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

[edit]
The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!

  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.

Hi! I noticed that in your sandbox article User:FayssalF/Sandbox 2 you have the categories still activated, so it's showing up in Category:Lists of office-holders. Could I suggest that you deactivate it (by putting a colon before 'Category' in the link) until such time as the article is in the mainspace rather than the userspace? (As per WP:CG, "If you copy an article to your user namespace (for example, as a temporary draft or in response to an edit war) you should decategorize it".) Morocco on wikiproject

[edit]

I addded myself to the cause i really want to participate, all articles i've created or expanded were about Morocco. I'm ready to cooperate if you're working on the same thing

Hi there, The Islam template is used in all Islam related articles and it carries an image of the mosque, if you take a close look at the other religion templates they all carry an icon that actually symbolizes the particular religion. The question is what symbolizes Islam? As a muslim you would agree that we cannot Idolize any symbol as sacred as it would be Shirk. So the next question is what kind of icon would correctly represent Islam and Muslims? It is undoubtedly the Shahada, because without it we wouldn't be muslims. So I have suggested to change the template image from a masjid to a Masjid with the Shahada in it. In order to have the image in the template I need build some consense, could you kindly visit the talk page (Template_talk:Islam) and make your suggestion, lets have the template change so it will correctly represent Islam. (You do not have to support it if you dont like it). thanks in advance.  «Mÿšíc»  (T) 12:36, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
