The Working Wikipedian's Barnstar
Nice job with the stub sorting, specifically with the Syracuse basketball pages.

Fresno State coaching template[edit]

I have researched and digged around everywhere and I could not find any history on the prior head coaches. I am hoping someone out there has this information.

Bill Self[edit]

Since you find it necessary to totally change my revisions (reverting them back to your original) I need remind you of Wikipedias policy on reverting wars. They are forbidden. Please see the policy on disputes below. I am attempting to resolve this issue. My revisions are obviously something you dont like (you are likely a KU fan) unfortunately that does not make you legitimate. My additions were and are valid, sourced, and responsible. I urge you to seek an amicable agreement with me as to how Self's page should go. I can assure you it will be an easy thing to do. Please note the section I have Bolded in the below Wikipolicy.

[edit] Avoidance The best way to resolve a dispute is to avoid it in the first place.

Be respectful to others and their points of view. This means primarily: Do not simply revert changes in a dispute. When someone makes an edit you consider biased or inaccurate, improve the edit, rather than reverting it. Provide a good edit summary when making significant changes that other users might object to. The revision you would prefer will not be established by reverting, and repeated reverting is forbidden; discuss disputed changes on the talk page. If you encounter rude or inappropriate behavior, resist the temptation to respond unkindly, and do not make personal attacks.

Writing according to the "perfect article guidelines" and following the NPOV policy can help you write "defensively", and limit your own bias in your writing. For some guidelines, see Wikipedia:Wikiquette.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Wjmummert (talkcontribs) 23:14, July 11, 2007

NCAA Women's Brackets[edit]

I see you've created a page for the 2004 NCAA Women's bracket. I wrote some scripts to generate all the historical NCAA Men's brackets (see Template:NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament) so I could presumably generate similar pages for all of the women's brackets. If you have some input, let me know. Otherwise, I'll get going shortly. --Dantheox 08:15, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use images[edit]

Hello. I noticed you added the NBA team logos to the draft page. However, note that the NBA logos are fair use and fair use policy dictates that the use of the image must not be purely decorative. Unless you can justify the use of these fair use images, they are going to have to be removed. Pepsidrinka 03:09, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you seem to be into editing draft articles. Perhaps you should take a look at the featured list criteria and also take a look at 2005 NFL Draft and its corresponding featured list nomination at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/2005 NFL Draft. From my view of your edit patterns, you could probably churn out many featured lists in with all the draft lists you edit. Pepsidrinka 03:18, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Czukay-Sylvian 's albums[edit]

Hello, I noticed you included Flux and Mutability in progressive rock album stub cathegory. Well, it's not correct, that album is a typical example of Ambient music with influences from Ethno and World music, in other words it is often regarded as a "New Age" album. Could you please explain why you think its prog rock? Regards.Brian Wilson 13:06, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hello, fuzzy510, thank you for replying. Ok, if it is so important for you, feel free to keep that stub for now, I'll expand the text within this weekend. I bought those two albums, Plight and Premonition and Flux and Mutability when they were first released in vynil, around 1988-89; I can ensure that they are universally regarded as Ambient or New Age, never as prog rock. This is the evidence that AllMusic is not trustable at all, despite the fact that young Wikipedians regard it as a sort of bible. A reference site for every genre related to prog rock, electronic rock, experimental music, ambient and new age is www.scaruffi.com Brian Wilson 10:38, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Deletion tags[edit]

Hi,

Thanks for helping out by tagging articles for deletion. Please remember that the criteria for speedy deletion (WP:CSD) are quite narrow. Suspected violation of a notability guideline (like WP:MUSIC, WP:CORP, etc.) is NOT a reason for speedy deletion, only for listing an article on PROD or AfD. You recently marked Pure Yak Frenzy for speedy deletion, but your reason for the speedy did not match any CSD. In the future, if you are concerned only about the notability of an article, it is better to mark it with PROD or send it to AfD. Thanks again and happy wiki-ing!, Xoloz 17:14, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:BiLoCenter.gif listed for deletion[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded, Image:BiLoCenter.gif, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

Talledega[edit]

Hi I have contested your proposed deletion of the Talledega picture. It is currently the only image available for this article on Wikipedia or the commons. If you'd like to contribute a free pic then by all means do so, however until that time there is no valid reason to delete it. Yes a picture can be taken, but unless you are willing to provide one that is not a valid deletion criteria. Gateman1997 07:31, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe you are misreading #1. "If a free alternative exists" refers to if one exists on Wikipedia or the commons, which none currently does. It does not refer to if one could eventually be made available. Also if you would please reread that section it also asks that if you know a free image exists you should replace it. So unless you're going to do so I believe this IFD is out of order at this time. Gateman1997 18:08, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Age[edit]

many thanx for your New age stub template, it surely will work better than that prog rock one. I dont love the term "new age" when it claims to mean sort of relgious-movement-that-becomes-religion; if it is used as work-in-progress-walk-towards-the-infinite-respecting-other-religions it is ok for me. Splitting the US-stadia...[edit]

This was my first proposal in this area, now archived here. As we're supposed to follow the structure of the permanent categories, we have three possible alternatives: by sport, by location (state, or region of states), or by type of structure (most obviously, the indoors, vs the "ball parks"). Baseball stubs[edit]

Stub sorting[edit]

In this task, you are replacing football stub with football club stub for some international sides: they are not football clubs. I have reverted Guam: I fear you may have done lots of others. Kevin McE 01:02, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You refer elsewhere to a 60 article threshhold: I am not clear whether a stub category should have more or less than this threshhold amount. If you need to split it further, I would suggest that this could be done by conference (UEFA, OCF, CONCACAF etc)

Speedy deletion[edit]

FYI, when you tag a page for speedy deletion, it's important to be careful that if it is transcluded elsewhere, you use noinclude tags - <noinclude>{{db|whatever}}</noinclude> - so that the speedy deletion tag will be added only to the template/user page itself and not to pages where it is transcluded. Thanks. --BigDT 00:34, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template colors[edit]

I see that you are doing a lot of good work on templates, but I see that you changed the Oregon State orange to be a lot darker than previously. Now all the Oregon State templates are rather hard to read. I think it is worth changing orange to be brighter even if it means not being the exact official shade of the school (not sure if what you changed it to is or not), as it will make the teplates easier to navigate. Also, as an OSU student, I can say that bright orange is a lot more common than darker shades. VegaDark 21:24, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template User UMD[edit]

Hello, I see you've changed this userbox template. Perhaps you were not aware of the reasoning behind this Userbox, see Discussion at –

Proposed replacement of University of Maryland userbox.

(See also Template talk:user UMD)

The "Testudo" image template contributed by someone else, which had a photo of a sculpture, was removed as a Speedy Delete for copyright infringement. As discussed on the Talk page, a new userbox template which is generic to the entire University of Maryland system was developed in its place. This is the one Userbox for the Univ. Md. It superceded the banned Testudo userbox by a Redirect. Thus, no Disambig. is necessary, nor is it desired or intended that the replacement userbox apply only to the College Park campus.

Kindly revert your changes, please, so that this userbox template applies as intended, or enter the Discussion page if you still feel differently JGHowes talk - 15:41, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for creating Mike Gillespie (basketball coach).

There are three different Mike Gillespies. Mike Gillespie is a baseball coach. Mike Gillespie (basketball coach), Mike Gillespie, Sr., is the Florida A&M Rattlers basketball head coach. Mike Gillespie, Jr. is an assistant basketball coach at Florida A&M. I do not recommend creating an article for the assistant coach.

Do you think we should make a disambiguation page for Mike Gillespie and move the current Mike Gillespie to Mike Gillespie (baseball coach)? Or do you have other suggestions? Fbdave 00:39, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

College Coaches[edit]

Hey - glad to see someone else working on the college coach stuff. It might be helpful though to get some more information into the articles instead of just mass creating stubs for them though. Basic information for the infoboxes and coaching stops can be easily gotten from the school's athletic departments, and ESPN will usually have a record of a recent hiring as well. Couple those things together, and about 20 minutes later you'll have a reasonably complete start-class article. matt91486 05:59, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I can understand that. I think we'll probably be safe with the templates now that Maine has been up for deletion with a consensus of keep. That said, I'm definitely planning on trying to get ahold of Maine's media guide to get another article written between now and the six months a couple people wanted to review it over at. matt91486 20:19, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  1. The en-rule is used to link two dates to indicate a range; as "present" isn't a date, the en-rule is wrong here, and "to" is correct.
  2. Abbreviating the names of the Universities is obscure to someone who doesn't already know ("Bradley" could mean anything).
  3. The addition of a range of dates was unexplained and unsourced; where does the information come from? The current format fits what's said in the article. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 22:33, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Arkansas Razorbacks basketball[edit]

Think you could move Arkansas Razorbacks men's basketball back to its original location at Arkansas Razorbacks basketball? This article should never have been moved in the first place. "Razorbacks" refers EXCLUSIVELY to men's teams at the school. Women's teams are formally known as "Lady Razorbacks", but the school more commonly refers to these teams as "Lady'Backs" (the women's athletics article is at Arkansas Ladybacks, probably for clarity). Note also that Arkansas is one of a small number of schools which operates completely separate men's and women's athletic departments; Tennessee is the only other one I know of. The official websites are also clearly distinct: hogwired.com for the Razorbacks, and ladybacks.com for the Lady'Backs. — Dale Arnett 22:21, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Western Illinois basketball[edit]

Western Illinois Leathernecks men's basketball is another one that should never have been moved. While Western Illinois has only one athletic department (unlike Arkansas and Tennessee), it has radically different nicknames for its men's and women's teams. The men are formally "Fighting Leathernecks", while the women are "Westerwinds". — Dale Arnett 22:29, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here's another one that should never have been moved. "Runnin' Rebels" is exclusive to the men's basketball program at UNLV. The standard nickname for men's teams, including football, is simply "Rebels", although "Hustlin' Rebels" is often used for baseball. All women's teams are known as "Lady Rebels". — Dale Arnett 22:32, 28 June 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Thanks for the notice. I've restored the previous version of the logo because the one you uploaded was not obtained directly from Stanford, and the shade of red on the S is markedly different on my screen. Accordingly, and since such issues are often considered quite significant in reproducing logos and the like, I would think the strong preference is to use the more definitive one, regardless of the image format. --Michael Snow 03:56, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While I understand the NHL series one, I moved it simply because the name "NHL series" doesn't really convey as much meaning as "NHL video game series" or "List of NHL video games by Electronic Arts" or somesuch. If you really want to move it back, I won't oppose it, but I prefer the new name because it is more meaningful. As for the UNLV case, I really don't understand that; are you saying that the team's name is literally "UNLV Runnin' Rebels" and *not* "University of Las Vegas Runnin' Rebels?" If that is the case, I have to say that I'm a bit surprised and I think this is an idiosyncratic case. I'm sure the actual name of most university mascots or teams is "University Name Mascot Name." Again, my thinking was that daughter articles should inherit the name of the main article (e.g. United Nations Security Council, not UN Security Council or UNSC), regardless of other conventions, such as most common name. -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 03:17, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies Clearly, I am ignorant about college sports nomenclature, and I appreciate your input. As far as the sports league moves go, it is certainly the case that the National Football League is referred to as the "NFL" much more often than its full name. Why would we have "National Football League" but "List of NFL head coaches?" Also, there were inconsistencies about how it was already used (e.g. - and I'm just making this up - "List of NFL head coaches" and "National Football League lore.") Now, that is not an argument to move "NFL"s to "National Football League"s per se but it is certainly the case that one or the other should be moved. At this point, I'm getting a bit off track, and I suppose some of this should be directed to, for instance, WP:HOCKEY, but it might be worth it to let you know my rationale. -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 03:40, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Quick addendum I actually have looked at that WikiProject before, specifically looking for naming conventions, and as I glance again, I don't see any (other than these which are irrelevant.) Is there something I'm missing here? -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 03:42, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Seasons You are correct that there is a convention here that I did not see and you are correct that it also makes sense to incorporate that into similar articles. That having been said, it also makes sense to incorporate the name of the parent article into the daughter article(s), and that standard is Wikipedia-wide, rather than decided by a small enclave of hockey-enthusiast editors. So, I disagree with the reasoning of the WikiProject. That having been said, since there is a standard proposed by them, it would have been better to suggest this to them in the first place. -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 14:42, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming article by editor[edit]

Noticed you have the same problem with the renaming of articles on dubious grounds. He also moved A.R.S.R. "Skadi" to Algemene Rotterdamse Studenten Roeivereniging. See talk page and village pump for details.Nomen NescioGnothi seauton 15:30, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, maybe I am not seeing what you are seeing, but the birthdate was on one line when the line break wasn't there.
I compared the two and the only thing I saw was the text was a little more out on my edit, but was still on one line.
I was just trying to make it look better. Salisbury Steak (complaint dept. - contribs) 16:58, 7 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]

The image has been orphaned because you replaced it, User:Fuzzy510. The new image is Image:IllinoisStateRedbirds.png, which is a fine alternative. Kenallen 17:41, 9 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]

For all the work you've been doing converting the logos and making them look great. BsroiaadnTalk 13:40, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Though I do find the messages from BetacommandBot, above this section, mildly amusing. Haha. Sorry. BsroiaadnTalk 13:40, 11 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]

I have no problem replacing the HL logo I uploaded with a PNG version. I am curious though as to why you changed the name. I've tried to upload using names that are as specific as possible (as per guidelines) to eliminate confusion and also create a kind of standard naming system. Would you find changing the name to Image:Horizon League logo.png problematic? Craig R. Nielsen 19:06, 14 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]

DC Meetup notice[edit]

Greetings. There is going to be a Washington DC Wikipedia meetup on next Saturday, July 21st at 5pm in DC. Since you are listed in Category:Wikipedians_in_Maryland, I thought I'd invite you to come. I'm sorry about the short notice for the meeting. Hopefully we'll do somewhat better in that regard next time. If you can't come but want to make sure that you are informed of future meetings be sure to list yourself under "but let me know about future events", and if you don't want to get any future direct notices \(like this one\), you can list yourself under "I'm not interested in attending any others either" on the DC meetup page.--Gmaxwell 00:27, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphan messages[edit]

Hi, if you're replacing the logo images I uploaded in mass, you don't need to notify me about them individually. You're doing this to add transparency right? ccwaters 10:36, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NP. ccwaters 15:45, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was about to make the same comment. I see you've replaced all of them with lower-res images with fair-use justifications, so I'm not going to do any heavy lifting on it (especially since I'm not very active around here anymore), and let WP take care of the old stuff. Thanks for saving me all the work. :) Doogie2K (talk) 23:50, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know you deleted the Fort Worth flag because it violates a guideline (WP:FUC). If that's the case, why did you keep the Dallas flag there? Tom Danson 01:45, 17 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]
