Orphaned non-free media (File:Bill Finger by Jerry Robinson.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Bill Finger by Jerry Robinson.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:06, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as:

Hi. Can you offer your opinion here? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 17:04, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

subst templates on user pages

Most templates designed to be used on user talk pages, including {{wikismile}}, must be subst'd in order to work right. To use them, just put subst: after the {{ and before the name of the template, like so: {{subst:wikismile}}. I have already fixed up User_talk:GiantSnowman#Off out, take care for you. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 22:06, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited History of Crystal Palace F.C., you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Alan Smith (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). History of Crystal Palace F.C.

See User talk:Asnac#History of Crystal Palace F.C. where the other editor expressed agreement with my edit. Your reverting is extremely poor as it has re-added heaps and heaps and heaps of unreferenced and POV-laden material to an article. GiantSnowman 18:08, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Please use the article talk page to discuss the article as it helps other editors. Also bear in mind consensus can change, and please allow other editors time to actually edit. Hiding T 18:09, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
The consensus was established only just over a week ago, and the article has been in its sorry state for 3 years. How much more time do you want?! GiantSnowman 18:14, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
WP:DEADLINE, specifically the parts I added to it many years ago! :) Hiding T 18:19, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
WP:IAR. Again, I'll ask - how does having an article that is 99.99% unreferenced material and POV improve Wikipedia in any way, shape or form? GiantSnowman 18:20, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
I'm trying to edit the article as we speak. It'll go a lot quicker if you leave me alone to get on with it. If you want to lecture the author of Wikipedia:Purpose, feel free, it's your call. :) Hiding T 18:24, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
A marvelous non-answer, you should be a politician. If you're editing, you might also want to take into consideration the WP:CONSENSUS I have already linked to re:layout. GiantSnowman 18:26, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Okay, since you're straying into personal attacks and passive aggresiveness I hope you don't mind if I bow out of this conversation and actually try and improve Wikipedia. Happy editing, Hiding T 18:29, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Also, I can't see where you have linked to a consensus regarding layout, it'd be handy if you could give me that or better edit the page to achieve your desired layout when I've finished my bit. Collaboration, it's the wiki way. Hiding T 18:33, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Where was my personal attack? Where have I been passive aggressive? You're the one who suggested I should take a BREAK like I was some kind of naughty child. Link is here. GiantSnowman 18:35, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

"A marvelous non-answer". It doesn't really help move the conversation forward. And the line regarding becoming a politician, what are you hoping to gain? Do you want to improve the article? If so, how do those statements help? With all due respect, I have limited time and I'd like to spend those precious minutes editing the article. I'll have more time tomorrow but right now I'd like to edit the article. I think we want the same thing, so I don't see why we need to be engaging in this way. Your first statement to me began "Jesus Christ". Imagine how that makes me feel. Put yourself in my shoes. Ask yourself if making those the first words of a statement are the actions of a frustrated editor or one who is looking to openly collaborate. I've been an editor on wikipedia for years, cut me some slack and I'll cut you some. Deal? Hiding T 18:42, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

I've been here for nearly 8 years myself, and I'm a fellow Admin, so please don't treat me like some ignorant noob. Of course I'm here to collaborate and improve, some of your comments have been as equally unhelpful to me as mine were to you. Collaboration of the worst kind ;) GiantSnowman 18:46, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
I apologise for any offence I have given or caused to you, and do so in the spirit of being the better man. Imagine if you had apologised to me right at the beginning, or better yet not acted in the way you did. First impressions and all that. ;) It's like kids at the end of the day, "he started it"! At some point I hope you'll apologise too. Hiding T 18:50, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
I also apologise for any offence, I assure you it was not intended. Please let me know once you've finished editing the article. Regards, GiantSnowman 18:51, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
No worries, see below. Hiding T 18:54, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

I came to this page to thank Hiding for getting on and dealing with what will be a time-consuming page. So, thanks, much appreciated. In passing I see I've been quoted above, and in fact misquoted (at start of this section). I didn't 'express agreement' with the massive delete, just thanked Giant for clarifying the reasons for it.asnac (talk) 11:47, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

  • It's no problem, thank you. I think both yourself, GiantSnowman and myself all want the same thing, which is a brilliant article to exist at History of Crystal Palace F.C. and I for one hope we can get there! :) Hiding T 11:58, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 78

Re Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 78, I'm looking at the bottom of the page as that's the only place that refs Palace, can't really see anything regarding layout, help me out please, what are you referring to, for example, what's a good one of these articles look like? Then I can have something to aim for. I've got to go out in a minute, so I'll take the inuse off, when you edit the article once I'm done and remove anything will you do me a favour and paste it on my talk page so I can have a bash tomorrow, it'd be much appreciated. Cheers, Hiding T 18:54, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

The entire section at WT:FOOTY started as shock at the size of the TOC as every single season had a heading - not needed. For an example of an appropriate FA, see this as something to possibly aim for. GiantSnowman 18:57, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

References @ History of CPFC

Hi there. I saw that you added some references to the History of Crystal Palace F.C. article and I'd just like to ask why there's no URL specified for them, as they look recent enough for there to be an online version. While URLs are not strictly required for printed references, if there is an online link available, it makes things easier to verify. On another note, I'd just like to say keep up the sterling work on that article! Malpass93! (what I've been up to/drop me a ___) 11:58, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

  • I haven't had the time yet to add the urls, I will go dig for them at some point but I don't see it as a priority right now. The article needs a lot of trimming and rewriting, with most of teh material moved to individual season pages rather than housed in the one article. It's a big job, so I'm juggling how I go about things. I'm finding articles in library searches because it looks like google news search isn't as powerful as it used to be. Hiding T 12:46, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

A beer for you!

For all your hard work with the History of Crystal Palace F.C. article, salvaging what I thought was unsalvageable. You've earned this beer! GiantSnowman 17:37, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
  • Cheers! Got another query for if I take this further and sort out the seasons pages. When do we consider one season finishing and another starting on Wikipedia? For example, are we still in the 2012-2013 season until the community shield in August 2013? Would transfers get detailed on a 2012-2013 season page, or would it make sense to start a 2013-2014 page and detail them there as happening in the close season? Thanks, Hiding T 08:35, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Seasons

The Charity Shield in August 2013 will be for the 2013–14 season. In England, the season to finish/start on 30 June/1 July respectively, as that is the day that most (if not all) player contracts run up until. The transfer window opens on 1 July and that is when most players move, so I'd use those dates if I was you! GiantSnowman 11:38, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Request for input in drafting potential guidelines

Hi. There are, at present, no particular clear guidelines for religious material here, or, for that matter, guidelines for how to deal with ideas in general, particularly those ideas which might be accepted as true by individuals of a given religious, political, or scientific stance. There have been attempts in the past to draft such guidelines, but they have quickly been derailed. I am dropping this note on the talk pages of a number of editors who I believe have some interest in these topics, or have shown some ability and interest in helping to develop broad topic areas, such as yourself, and asking them to review the material at User:John Carter/Guidelines discussion and perhaps take part in an effort to decide what should be covered in such guidelines, should they be determined useful, and what phrasing should be used. I also raise a few questions about broader possible changes in some things here, which you might have some more clear interest in. I would be honored to have your input. In terms of Drowning Girl, I have expressed an opinion about the relevance of the Beaty content in the FAC discussion. What I need is for you to make a cogent statement including the bolded word Support at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Drowning Girl/archive1‎, indicating that you support promotion to WP:FA.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 01:07, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Crystal Palace F.C.

I have considered Wikipedia:Peer review/Crystal Palace F.C./archive1. My problem is that I don't know much about what other countries call Football. As I read this article, I find myself unfamiliar with what would be normal presentation of certain types of content. Looking at the WP:LEAD, I wonder if promotion is LEAD material or infobox material in most cases. I also wonder why an article that is only 24KB has a spinout (History of Crystal Palace F.C.). Should the List of Crystal Palace F.C. seasons article be linked to this article somehow? I am not confident I could give a good review.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 16:04, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

History of Crystal Palace F.C.

In terms of reviewing History of Crystal Palace F.C., you may want to consider my review history. I am one of the slowest reviewers on wikipedia. GA reviews typically take a month or so with it often taking me a couple of weeks just to complete my first readthrough. I could review History of Crystal Palace F.C., but it would likely be August before the review is completed. It sounds like you are in a hurry. If you are willing for a lengthy plodding review, I'll do it.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 16:13, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

I'll certainly get to the PR later this week. I suspect August may be a little ambitious with the speed at which FAC works these days, but let's see what we can do. Sarastro1 (talk) 18:51, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

I concur. It seems that FA takes a minimum of 4 or 5 weeks. Then you have to get it to WP:TFAR in advance of the date desired. It should already be at WP:FAC for the desired date.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 20:56, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Kevin Phillips

Hello, and thanks for providing the Parish source. However, what he said was that Phillips had agreed a deal, and "I believe the paperwork has all been done so it's going through" (my highlighting). Normal practice from a BLP verifiability point of view is we don't update a transfer until it actually is complete (as opposed to rumoured, agreed, "Sky Sports understands", or will be completed as-and-when) and the club concerned confirms it as such. There was a relevant discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 58#Official club websites as sources. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:27, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay replying, real life insists on interfering with my time... Your ce is fine by me. Thing is, what a club chairman says to the local reporter as an exclusive, on the assumption that things will progress as quickly as he wants them to, isn't RS for the deal being complete. There are many cases of club chairmen/presidents saying what they hope to be the case rather than what is, more's the pity. The difference with Campana is that the club has announced officially to the world at large that the deal is complete. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:48, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

The article Newcastle United F.C. 0–1 Crystal Palace F.C. (1907) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I don't think this is a notable match - no significant events, no significant coverage, no significant legacy

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Newcastle United F.C. 0–1 Crystal Palace F.C. (1907) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Newcastle United F.C. 0–1 Crystal Palace F.C. It is precisely because of our rapport/friendship that I thought an AFD would be the best place - a neutral venue. Apologies if I have offended you. Regards, GiantSnowman 16:08, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
Yes I added a PROD - as I do to most articles where I thought deletion would not be an issue. Should I have discussed it with you? Perhaps, but you had been offline for a number of weeks. Would it have prevented me taking it to AFD? Probably not. GiantSnowman 16:30, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

September 2013

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Newcastle United F.C. 0–1 Crystal Palace F.C. (1907) may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:

Help test better mass message delivery

Hi. You're being contacted as you've previously used global message delivery (or its English Wikipedia counterpart). It doesn't feel so great to be spammed, does it? ;-)

For the past few months, Legoktm has built a replacement to the current message delivery system called MassMessage. MassMessage uses a proper user interface form (no more editing a /Spam subpage), works faster (it can complete a large delivery in minutes), and no longer requires being on an access list (any local administrator can use it). In addition, many tiny annoyances with the old system have been addressed. It's a real improvement! :-)

You can test out MassMessage here: testwiki:Special:MassMessage. The biggest difference you'll likely notice is that any input list must use a new {{#target:}} parser function. For example, {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales}} or {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales|test2.wikipedia.org}}. For detailed instructions, check out mw:Help:Extension:MassMessage.

If you find any bugs, have suggestions for additional features, or have any other feedback, drop a note at m:Talk:MassMessage. Thanks for spamming! --MZMcBride (talk) 05:17, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Beginning of MassMessage, end of EdwardsBot

Hi. You're being contacted as you're listed as an EdwardsBot user.

MassMessage has been deployed to all Wikimedia wikis. For help using the new tool, please check out its help page or drop a note on Meta-Wiki.

With over 400,000 edits to Wikimedia wikis, EdwardsBot has served us well; however EdwardsBot will no longer perform local or global message delivery after December 31, 2013.

A huge thanks to Legoktm, Reedy, Aaron Schulz and everyone else who helped to get MassMessage deployed. --MZMcBride (talk) 02:36, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Tintin (character)

Hello Hiding, I come to respectfully ask if you would please review the Tintin (character) article that I have submitted for FA. You and Fram are the only obvious choices to ask, as you once played a major hand in this and other Tintin articles. Thank-you for considering it; I would be most honoured if you could stop by. The review is here: Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Tintin (character)/archive1. Prhartcom (talk) 06:08, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
