creating Wiki projects
Huntster:
To create a new Wiki project, do you create it like you would an article, or is there some sort of protocol to deal with first? I couldn't quite make sense of Wikipedia's help page on the topic. I'm thinking of creating a project for Appalachia. Bms4880 (talk) 00:39, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Anyone can make a WikiProject as far as I'm aware...just base it off another or create from scratch. I would, however, suggest that you get a few other people to join in, so there is evidence of demand/interest...projects with only one or two people tend to find themselves at Miscellaneous for Deletion. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 01:31, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Re: SFD
Hi Huntster (and happy new year!) - SFD's are never closed as "no consensus"... normally this would either simply be left or - in cases like this one which have hung around for months - relisted at the top of the page (like with some of the slower-to-move AfD debates). I've relisted it. Grutness...wha? 04:19, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Grr, I never saw anything about that. This is why I normally stay away from XfD stuff...even stale forgotten stuff is too procedural. Thanks for correcting my mistake. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 04:27, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- S'alright - SFD does work fractionally differently to the other XfDs, which is why closing's usually left to one of the regulars. You're right that this one has been hanging around too long though. Grutness...wha? 04:34, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) With your permission (since you also edited), I'll delete Category:European Space Agency stubs as things have been fixed to their previous format and everything will be sorted back into Category:ESA stubs. I'll try to be more procedural from now on, given the problems over the past day or so :( — Huntster (t • @ • c) 04:39, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- With your permission (since you also edited), I'll delete Category:European Space Agency stubs as things have been fixed to their previous format and everything will be sorted back into Category:ESA stubs. - well, if you like, though I've mentioned it in the renomination. If the category's kept that's the title it'll end up at, though, so it may be better just to leave it as is. Grutness...wha? 04:51, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

FYI, I've added this user to the ongoing Pprice1 sockpuppet case [1]. If you read the personal insults from "laurenwest99" in the original AfD, it's similar in style. --Mr. Vernon (talk) 04:58, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) I have been receiving some vaguely unsettling emails from Mrs. West in regards to this situation. I simply don't get into disputes and OMGDRAMAZ on-Wiki...this is my hobby, not my career. Forgive me, but I'll be following these issues from the sidelines. I don't care to get further involved. I'm rather sick of this whole thing. I do wish you all the luck going forward :/ — Huntster (t • @ • c) 05:07, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- Vaguely unsettling how? Legal threats? (There's no "Lauren West" on the bar in CA either.) If so, this needs to get escalated. --Mr. Vernon (talk) 05:11, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) I'm sorry, but I won't go further into this matter. I'll stick by my deletion request, but I will not get further involved. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 05:20, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Earth starships in Stargate
Hello, I understand that like me, you have also reverted some edits from the leaked spoilers in Earth starships in Stargate article. Since all the edits came from anonymous IPs, and since you are an administrator, I was wondering if you could please lock that page from the anons. Thanks for your time. -- Matthew R Dunn (talk) 23:13, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

just a note
I've never been good at the "Holiday Greetings" thing... esp. email and such. Just get too busy around that time. Anyway, hope you did have nice holiday season - and hope you have a good 2009, sorry I didn't get this done in a timely manner ;) . Ched (talk) 03:01, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Somehow I managed to not respond to your message on my talk page, which means I'm even less timely in my holiday greetings! Have a great 2009 :D — Huntster (t • @ • c) 02:03, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
CAP Wikimedia Images
Huntster, thanks for the help with the CAP images. However, I have a few questions:
- What images belong on Wikimedia, and what belongs on Wikipedia?
- Is there a way to tell if an image already exists on Wiki*?
- What tool(s) are available for image work on Wikipedia? (searching, uploading, etc...)
Fightin' Phillie (talk) 13:36, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Hey there.
- Basically, all CAP images should theoretically be on Commons, since official CAP-produced images will be in the public domain. The only images (of any kind, not just CAP) that should be on Wikipedia are non-free fair-use images. I keep watch of the CAP categories both here and on Commons, so regardless of where an image is uploaded, it'll eventually get to the correct location.
- Wikipedia will detect any exact duplicates of an image (based on the file's hash sum), either here or on Commons, once it has been uploaded. If a copy exists, one of them can be deleted without problem. However, the sites mostly rely on users to properly categorise images, so non-exact copies can be found. This, of course, does not happen most of the time. I've found probably a dozen CAP images on Wikipedia that were never categorised.
- There are various tools to help with image tasks, mostly with transfering or uploading to Commons. If you look on my userpage, in the top-left box, there are three image-related links: CommonsHelper allows you to move images from Wikipedia to Commons (when appropriate), Flickr-to-Commons helps transfer images directly from Flickr to Commons, Free Image Search Tool (FIST) does exactly what it states, and Flickr Search limits the keyword search to only Commons-compatible images. There are various others, but I'm most familiar with these three...they are all I really need. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 01:54, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Another SG grammar question
Hi. I just moved Stargate literature to List of Stargate literature because it's more a list than an article. But now I wonder if the new title is grammatically sound, or if it should be List of Stargate books (although this would be bad for the short story section). Thanks in advance. (You can reply here.) – sgeureka t•c 19:01, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- No, I think "List of Stargate literature" sounds fine...nothing grammatically incorrect about it. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 20:02, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
observation
Hey Huntster,
noticed an improvement you made to an article called M. Keaton (think that right spelling, wonder if it's any relation to Alex P.). I assume that's just coincidence (I had a minor problem with it when I was trying to fix some things), but just in case I have a guardian angel out there ... thx buddy. I have a presentation coming up with city concil, PD, and VFD soon to demonstrate a database I designed for emergency response ... keep and eye open for me there too ... LOL ... never did much care for public speaking. Ched (talk) 13:44, 7 January 2009 (UTC) Ched (talk) 13:46, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Just wanted to say thanks, I wasn't sure how to format properly to put on your user page, you'll be able to move and format it much quicker than I could. Either by design or coincidence, you seem to be a guardian angel of some sort for my early days at Wikipedia. Just wanted to express my thanks. Sound Asleep EP
Would you mind unprotecting the page I recently created, which was deleted, for the second Evanescence Demo EP "Sound Asleep". I realise that I failed to provide a reference when creating the page. This was because I was short of time and intended to return to correct this later. However the page was deleted and then protected by you pretty quickly. The reference is here http://evanescencereference.info/music/ from the evanescence reference itself. All the tracks can be found here together with an interview with Lee and Moody on the subject. I can recreate the page I mage, which was sourced directly from this site, and include the reference this time. I apologise for not providing it the first time round but I assure you the information is correct. I actually own the EP myself anyhow, though I realise first-hand research is not considered on wikipedia, which is valid and reasonable. If you could unprotect the page to allow me to make the necessary edits I would be most pleased. The lack of a dedicated page for Sound Asleep is really irritating when trying to follow the Evanescence Chronology on Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by The Athlon Duster (talk • contribs) 07:52, 12 January 2009
- (X-Posted) I'm sorry, but no, the page will stay as-is. I know the information is correct, but basically, anything written about the Sound Asleep, Mystary, or Evanescence EPs will be original research and unsourced, which is just not acceptable on Wikipedia anymore. The Sound Asleep article has never had anything used as a source, and the EvRef page you mention doesn't work either, since it only mentions the tracklist. For that matter, it is a fan-made page, and is not considered reliable for our purposes. Of course, that doesn't preclude folks from visiting EvRef to learn about these works. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 18:54, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Disambiguation scripts
(X-Posted) Hey DoxTxob, I saw that you are working to kill redirects, and I thought you might find this useful. The first is a .js bit that adds a tab to the top of the page, which highlights redirects and performs a count of their number on a page. It is at User:Huntster/monobook.js/highlightredirects.js. The second is a simple CSS change that more subtly highlights the redirects in an article (and is on all the time, as opposed to clicking a button), which is:
a.mw-redirect { color:green; font-weight:bold; }
If you are interesting and don't know how to add .js or .css stuff to your profile, let me know and I'll either step you through it or add it/them to your files, whichever you wish. Cheers! — Huntster (t • @ • c) 07:10, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Huntster! How are your things going? The scripts you mentioned sound pretty interesting. I have not used any scripts on Wikipedia yet, but I have read about how to install them here. As I remember it is not so complicated, I did not do it because the scripts I remember were more on user detail stuff or so, nothing too exciting. If it makes the disambiguation easier, that would be great. I don't do that on a regular basis and I am not patrolling the dabs but I have done it for Nashville and Memphis. Wow, and that was hundreds of articles that I found. Highlighting would be the way to go for the next round!
- At the moment I am more in a writing mood, I have started an article about Randolph, Tennessee recently and add stuff to it. But I will certainly come back to you with that script in case I have problems or questions.
- By the way, I remember that years ago you were working on some easy way to move appropriate images to the commons. I upload my new images there now, but there are a few old photos on en.wiki that could go to commons. I have not moved them yet because it is a pretty time consuming task. Have you found some good and quick solution yet?
- Take care, doxTxob \ talk 00:21, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Heh, I have scripts to do all sorts of things...from changing the page tool appearance to highlighting admins. Things are a bit easier to implement now that the Gadgets have been added to Preferences, but there are a vast variety of other scripts and CSS bits that can make life easier for editors. One quick thing for editing is AndyZ's peer review script, located at User:AndyZ/peerreviewer, which does some limited autoformatting and general cleanup for articles. It does occasionally generate a false positive in its fixes, but it is quite the handy tool (I love it because it automatically removes excess spaces from the article code).
- As for Wiki-to-Commons transfers, CommonsHelper is definitely my prefered solution. It is easy to use and quite flexible, and if you sign up for TUSC access, it will even automatically upload the image to Commons for you (just be sure to go to the image and clean everything up). If you look on my user page, under Wiki Tools, you can find some additional image stuff for other purposes. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 01:24, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hey Huntster, I have just installed that script that highlights the redirects (The longer script that adds the tab at the top). That is something! I love it! I used the script on my new article about Randolph. Wow, there are tons of redirect links there that need fixing and this gives you all the redirect flaws that the article has. And it is so easy to use. But who am I telling that!? Why is that feature not included in the regular interface? Amazing, thanks for letting me know about that neat feature, I will keep that gadget installed and will use it on all my favorite articles as part of my small, personal and limited effort to leave Wikipedia better after any and every edit than it was before. Take care Huntster, doxTxob \ talk 05:11, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
In response to your comment on my talk page
(X-Posted) Hey Scetoaux, I know you are currently inactive, but if/when you return, I've gotten some fairly decent old-school L-Per and ELT Training Beacon photos if you still need them. Cheers! — Huntster (t • @ • c) 05:19, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, that would be excellent.
- I'm thinking about really returning to WP. It's not going to be easy because I'll have to come back up to speed in policy, guidelines, etiquette, etc. and of course formatting. — scetoaux (T|C) 22:22, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) I certainly hope you find time to return...you did good work. If you need any help reacclimating, lemme know. I'll upload a couple of those pics and put them in commons:Category:Civil Air Patrol. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 05:25, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Questioning my own actions
Hi Huntster, I hope it's ok if I come to you with this. I recently ran across an article that I thought needed improvement through an RfC. I tried to provide input, and while I still feel the way it is currently worded - is wrong. To make a long story short, I posted a question at a blocking admin's page here, (as well as mentioning it at the retiring admin's talk page). The retiring admin. did respond, and generally feeling that an admin's advise is proper, I'm not sure in this case it was. Partly because I'm not sure ... let's just say that, - I am questioning my post to the blocked users talk page. After looking a little closer at various things, I am kind of wishing I had not posted it. My question is, would it ever be acceptable for a user (me) to remove/delete their own post to another users talk page. While I feel the article is very wrong in it's current presentation, I'm afraid that I'm stepping into a big pile of doo-doo that maybe I'd be better to avoid. I'd appreciate any input and advise that you would feel comfortable in giving. Thank you. Ched (talk) 15:45, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Well, I'm not sure which talk page post you are referring to. I see comments on Ioeth and QuackGuru, but I can't seem to locate the comment on the blocked subject's page. In general, it is typically okay to retract your own comments if no one else has replied to it, though it is frowned upon to orphan replies. Give me some more context and hopefully I can give you better advice. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 04:26, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Huntster, thanks for responding. The whole situation revolved around an RFC for content on Larry Sanger - and although I tried to talk things out at the talk page, some of the article edit summary stuff had things like LOL and such in it, the talk page would say "These are direct quotes", yet when I responded by putting quote marks around them - he (Quackguru) reverted again. A couple times I just left the article for a couple days to think things out - and reply after some thought - I always felt he was being dismissive, which I didn't understand since there was an RFC. If it was a matter of editing what I would put in, GREAT!, but simple reverts seemed to say - "your contributions are worthless". Enough about that though ... in the end, on advise from Lara/Jenna I left a comment on Quackguru's talk page, then after seeing some of his (Quackguru) history - I wished I would not have engaged him at all. It's not that I'm too thin-skinned to hold my own with anyone, but I'm not sure I want to engage an editor who's had so many issues with so much of the community. I was thinking of just deleting my comment from his page, but didn't know if that would be frowned upon. Thanks. Ched (talk) 04:41, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Quackguru being the "blocked subject" I was referring to. Ched (talk) 04:44, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) No, I see no problem with removing your comment, especially since you gave a valid reason for doing so in the edit summary. You are doing fine...don't be afraid to be bold, so long as you have a sound reason for doing so. Always be willing to defend yourself and your actions here, and to ask for explanation from others when you feel the wrong action has been taken. You do good work in my opinion :) — Huntster (t • @ • c) 08:21, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Always appreciate your time and input. I often think before I hit save ... "WWHD" (What Would Huntster Do). You inspire confidence, and encourage me to do my best here. You have a unique talent, and I appreciate it! ;) — Ched (talk) 20:20, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

3O
Well, I had to go to WP:3O on the Larry Sanger article. I honestly tried to talk it out on the talk page first, but to be honest, I doubt I had a chance of that working. We'll see how it goes. To be honest, I was kind of hoping to avoid any of the boards (at least for a while) - but given the status of Sanger, I thought it was important. We'll see what goes from here I guess. — Ched (talk) 07:17, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

PDF-version of articles
Hello Huntster! I am not sure if you knew that I am German ... well, I am. Anyway, on the German Wikipedia there is a link in the toolbox that enables you to generate and download a PDF-version of any article from the German Wikipedia. (German Wikipedia Mainpage, look for "Werkzeuge" (tools) on the left and the "PDF-Version" link).
I know that you are not only a very smart editor of Wikipedia but that you have expert knowledge of the technical topics as well. Why is this PDF conversion feature not available in the English Wikipedia? PDF is much more neat than the printable version of an article (that is also available on the German Wikipedia as "Druckversion"). It cannot be any copyright issues for the conversion software, I assume, as they should not be much different for Germany than for other civilized countries, incl. the U.S. of A. I tried that feature a few times and I like the results. Do you think this feature can be adopted by the English Wikipedia easily? Take care, doxTxob \ talk 04:04, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Hey there. I'm not surprised...the German 'pedia typically takes a much more experimental approach to things, but this is because they tend to be very conservative/restrictive in their policies. They've been using flagged revisions for a while now, for example, but this works for them because they have somewhat stricter rules for inclusion than the English site. I don't know exactly why we're not using that particular feature (I doubt it is anything technical), but I have a feeling it is due to image licensing issues. My understanding is that the German site does not allow any non-free images, while the English site does, and this difference may cause problems in distribution. Perhaps one day the English site will start cracking down on such problems, and we can adopt the tool as well. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 05:10, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hey Huntster! I thought I'd bother you again with this topic because when I first saw the possibilities, I was really excited. Because with that system it is also possible to have a collection of your favorite articles printed out as a book. Wow, that is neat, isn't it? I am not so much knowledgable with the technical features and with the relationship of all the Wikipedias in the organization. Well, here is what I found out so far (the pages are in English). It all has somthing to do with the MediaWiki.org [2]. The PDF-export seems to be only one part of the deal, as mentioned before there is also the option to print as a real book. It seems that the printer also offers a public server for the PDF-conversion. [3]
- And here is the best thing: They have a bookmarklet there that you can use with other Wikipedias. I have tried it with articles from the en.Wikipedia and it works nicely. When you are on any article page in the en.wiki you can just click it and have the option to download as PDF, OpenDocumentFormat or have it printed for a very reasonable price, even if shipping is included (less than $13 for 48 pages printed, bound and shipped). The downside is that on occasion some page elements like navboxes are not layed out right in the preview and probably in the print as well, as it is a highly automated service. I am definitely going to test the printed and bound version in the next few days to see how that looks like.
- Do you think this would work with the en.wikipedia if there were issues with non-free material converted to PDF or printed? I am still thinking about a general implementation of the function on en.wiki. But then, there is the mentioned optional method as described above ... I hope I could let you know something new and neat. Take care, doxTxob \ talk 00:16, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
- Now, I vandalized the Randolph, Tennessee article that I have mostly written myself for an hour or so to get the stuff fixed that did not look right or was ill-rendered in the printed book version preview and ordered a printed copy before reverting my own test edits back to the stage they were before the test. It seems that you can only print books from the article namespace, not the user namespace, so there is no way to paste the article into your sandbox and retrieve it from there for printing. Just explaining the reason for my madness to you in this case. If you are interested, I'll let you know about the printed results, once the book arrives.
- By the way, there is a script version of the PDF, OpenDocument and print your own book feature:
importScript( 'User:Pediapress/collection.js' ); //add this line to your monobook.js file
- This adds extra links in your nav bar at the top right side to add an article to your book and one to look at your collection. Very neat, I love it, hope you like it, too. Take care, doxTxob \ talk 04:12, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Heh, I guess this is a case of "ask and ye shall receive". If you've not noticed, this exact feature has now been enabled on the site...articles will have the same "PDF version" link as the German Wikipedia has. I guess this really was a case of just needing an extension enabled. Cheers! — Huntster (t • @ • c) 08:40, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I knew about that. Two weeks ago I have tried out the print books feature but they did not turn out exactly as I wanted. So while I was complaining to the company for a refund or re-print, they let me know that it is planned to implement the PDF and print books feature on the English Wikipedia, pretty soon. By the way, they re-printed the books without further charges and the second try was just as I wanted it. Perfect! Take care, doxTxob \ talk 23:02, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Personal Note
Hi Huntster. I wanted to drop a note on some off topic developments (sort of). I recently attended a city council meeting (at their request) regarding a database I designed and developed for emergency responders (PD, VFD, EMS). It seems that they like what I've done, and have now bumped it up to county admins to see if my work can be incorporated at a county-wide level. OK - I admit - a "toot my own horn" thing, but thought you might be mildly interested as you also perform an invaluable public service as well.
On a "downside" kind of note - I recently had to spend some time at a police station. I finally had time to visit a library (in search of documenting some info from microfilm archives of local newspapers). I hope to find enough info to make a Heidelberg Raceway article for wikipedia, but need more than what the web provides. Anyway - while I was there, (I had my wallet out to get my ID and library card out), I ended up leaving my wallet on the front desk of the library while the director showed me the sections and resources they had available. When I came back to the front desk, I found that someone had lifted my wallet! Geesh! Stealing in a library, ... almost as bad as a church! Anyway, despite my total depression - I'll continue on, and try to make Wikipedia a better place .. ;). You're probably already aware that I consider you one of Wikipedia's most valuable assets, and it makes me proud of my daughter's generation that people like you rise to the level you do (both on and off wiki). I'm sure you're busy, but I wanted to drop you a note -- I hope life is treating you well. — Ched (talk) 06:39, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Lunar orbiter I
(X-Posted) FYI, your change to Lunar Orbiter 1 resulted in a...well...I don't know what happened, but it broke the template: diff. I've changed to straight text, which is without question human readable. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 05:54, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. It was an error in my conversion process. I was subst'ing the old template to render the new template, and as you will see in my edit, I neglected to perform the second pass to remove the mumbly special characters. It will work fine if these are replaced, (58- colon, and 32 = space). I have not restored with this fix because there is a dispute on whether one template is more desirable than the other. In case you are interested, there is a discussion of the issue at Manual of style- numbers. Mars Climate Orbiter was lost due to lack of intelligibility of numeric information resulting in a unit error between JPL and Lockheed. Same issue here. -J JMesserly (talk) 16:43, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Yeah, I had a feeling those ASCII character codes were the culprit, but wasn't sure if they were an integral part of what you were trying to accomplish. To Andy below, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a limited run, manually-operated test of alternative methods of doing similar things. If this new system proves more robust and capable than the old, then it deserves its place on the site, same as any other template, system, or method of operation. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 19:28, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

(Then promptly called my daughter and told her to have my granddaughter watch it ;)) I hate having a huge backlog of "I owe ya" out there ... lol. A little to late to owe ya my first born, so I have to think of something else ;) — Ched (talk) 16:56, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Lmao, that's hilarious. You know, I've been dealing with that article topic for so long, that I don't even remember now how I first came across it. I think someone asked me to take a look, but I don't know. Don't let anyone tell you that double-checking other's work is a bad thing...it most assuredly is not. Sure, there are some people who may take offence to it, but to be brutally direct, that's their problem. Also, don't ever feel like you owe me anything. We're all volunteers here, doing it for the fun of it. If you feel like you owe people, then it moves that much closer to being a job, and that is just not acceptable :) — Huntster (t • @ • c) 19:49, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Celtic Woman image
(X-Posted) Greetings. I've deleted the file File:Lisa Chloë Máiréad Alex Órla Lynn.jpg because it is a non-free image of living persons, which is prohibited on the site. Please see Wikipedia:Non-free content#Images 2, point #12, and to an extent, #11 and . If you have any questions, please leave a note on my talk page. Cheers. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 09:38, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
- Awww man! I thought I did everything right on that thing. What does one have to do to get a “free” picture of our favorite musical group? KeltieMartinFan (talk) 10:08, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Yeah, it sucks, but we do strive to be free. The best option is to try to take a photograph yourself, should you have the opportunity. Folks will occasionally post free images on Flickr...I try to check there periodically myself. One final possibility would be to get CW to release one of their promo images (like the one you uploaded) into the public domain, or under a Commons-acceptable license (GFDL or CC-By-SA, etc). The process of release is a bit complicated, but such a promo pic will of course yield the highest-quality image. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 19:57, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
otters and other stuff
LOL about the otters and all, had seen him around a lot - and always wondered. Loved that "don't drink and ban" edit summary. Ya know, I've been thinking about Wikipedia and a good real life analogy - growing up on a farm (which I did). It can be really beautiful, the lush green grass is wonderful and all - but you need to watch where you're stepping. And sooner or later, ya will step into a pile of crap, but the trick is knowing where to wipe your feet, and not stepping into an even bigger pile. Looks like the NASCAR race is heading toward a good finish here too. (which has absolutely noting to do with anything - just that I was watching). — Ched (talk) 01:43, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) <me> cries because he didn't know the race was on. </me> At least I'll catch the end. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 01:47, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- You know you've exceeded your wiki-holic levels when you forget NASCAR .. LMAO. — Ched (talk) 01:50, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
my talk page
Would you have time to look at the Huh? thread on my talk page. I found the obvious stuff easy enough in various page histories - I'm not sure what to make of the question though? Doesn't matter to me where you post a reply - you already know I stalk your page .. LOL (good race by the way) — Ched (talk) 03:20, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- Note: Problem sorted. Just a wiki-mirror.
Merge
hey Huntster, how you doing this weekend? I'm working on a merge (here) - I already closed and archived the talk pages - and copied some of the stuff over. I hope to get done later tonight, but I was hoping you would have time to look over everything before I do the actual #redirect. Just to make sure I'm not missing anything. Hope all is going good for ya - talk to you later. ;) — Ched (talk) 20:56, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- also, can I move Timeline of notable computer viruses and worms to "Timeline of notable computer malware" I'd like to do it myself for the experience, but not unless you're online and can check me. Wouldn't want to miss a redirect, or mess up the "What links here" items. Thanks — Ched ~ (yes?) 19:56, 1 March 2009 (UTC) (reminder: Vegas Race on Fox at 3:30) ;)
(X-Posted) Sorry to arrive so late, been a bit busy over the past couple of days. I see you've got the articles merged...I see nothing out of the ordinary. As for the rename, so long as noone on the talk page has a problem with it, then you are free to do so. Just give it a few days to see if there are any objections. I trust you'll do fine, but if you want, I'll double check the move when you've finished it. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 06:58, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) By the way, I'm astonished with the sheer amount of talk page activity you've got going on! You've probably generated as much traffic in one month as I do in a whole year. Not to mention, far more active than me. Kudos! — Huntster (t • @ • c) 07:03, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- (ec)No problem - I was half tempted to drop a "You appear to be engaged in an edit war" note on your talk page - but thought better of it, at least until you got everything under control. ;) ... I'll drop a "Move" discussion on the talk page first then, and check back later for objections (doubtful). Seriously though, you may want to call down to the station if he's that close, better safe than sorry - CYA.
- Did you get to see the race? .. Jamie Mac pulled a drifting move that can go in the next Fast and Furious movie ... lol. — Ched ~ (yes?) 07:08, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Oh, edit war with regards to the vandalism and such going on? Yeah, that's a mess. Guy is caught red-handed and still won't admit to his errors. Oh well. And I'm not concerned with his proximity...there's virtually no way for him to know who I am, locate me, or even really determine where I work (not to mention *when*). In the unlikely event he would make any moves in real life, I know I have blue backup. *grin* And no, didn't get to see the race, sounds like it was a darn good one. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 07:13, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) LMAO, if only all editors were as teachable! If only I was as teachable, hehe. Avoid teh dramaz! — Huntster (t • @ • c) 07:24, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
← (X-Posted) Thanks for the kind words :) Yeah, I saw where you were working to rescue Shutdown Day. At first I was concerned it was too non-notable, but there appear to be several varied sources within Google News (link) that you may find useful as refs. Not sure if there needs to be separate subsections for each year...I doubt each iteration is notable enough; and do remember to change all references to inline citations, rather than just hanging in the References section. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 07:41, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for news links! - and yea ... I'll do the proper format for the refs here shortly - very rough draft right now, and was just taking short-cuts (even though I shouldn't). After the Study Skills purging, I've learned to save to HD too, just in case. Yea, now that I think about it a bit, you're right, probably should just flush the separate years. Thx for checking it out ;) — Ched ~ (yes?) 07:49, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Copied per preferred page style and content. (looks like you've been having a bad week). But, you'll have to do the sort per time continuity - As Bones would say to Kirk on Star Trek - "Damn it Jim, I'm an editor - not a secretary!" — Ched ~ (yes?) 02:58, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

East Nashville High
(X-Posted) Hi there, thanks for creating the article East Nashville High School, however, it appears parts of it is a direct copy/paste from http://www.eastalums.com/history.htm. This is strictly not permitted by Wikipedia, and will result in the article being deleted if these copyright violations are not removed. The same goes for any other article, image, etc (I trust that actually is your image of ENHS...). If you have any questions, please leave a note on my talk page. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 06:16, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hello, The article is not copy and pasted as you have alleged. I have documents ans other resources that will help me make this article better. Thanks Terrancee (talk) 06:22, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) I have the sources which show that major portions of the articles are copyvios. Aka, the text was copied directly from copyrighted sources. Pretty easy to determine. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 06:24, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, Ill change it soon to fit the wikipedia mold, o benevolent Huntster. Terrancee (talk) 06:33, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Thanks for agreeing to modify the articles. Wikipedia is definitely better off having articles, but since this is a free encyclopedia, copyright violations aren't tolerated. I see from your IP that you live just up the road from me on Greenland...please do refrain from vandalising my user pages again. Cheers! — Huntster (t • @ • c) 06:35, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- So now you are stalking me..... I did not vandalize your page, dont even go there with me. This is a shared IP, if you didnt know Terrancee (talk) 06:38, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
re: Activity
TechOutsider decided I wasn't working against him, and is now very communicative in wanting to know which directions to go in his Norton persuits. ;) ... and every time I find one door of knowledge here - I open it and find 20 more things to learn .. LOL. RoyalBroil I found is also a race fan, and I've been looking at how things get to GA and FA. Business has been slow this month, which has given me time to try to get up to speed as best I can here. I did find that advice you gave me long ago was the best advice - first I moved all the drama (AN) pages off my watchlist - then deleted the whole page I had put them on. I find I much more time to actually learn and contribute now too ... LOL. I saw activity starting up again on the Larry Sanger article, and instead of posting anything at all, I simply asked PeterSymonds to watchlist. see ... I'm teachable ;-) — Ched ~ (yes?) 07:16, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yep, nice having "blue friends" .. ;) .. got all the Red Cross first aid and CPR certs out of the way Sat. too. Have a new pet project too - I found this in the NPP garbage can, I have some high hopes for it over time. Race was good too, sorry you couldn't catch it. And let's not forget to give credit to my teacher too! You're good folk Huntster, and I'm grateful and appreciative for all your help here. — Ched ~ (yes?) 07:31, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- Note: See "Merge" section above...sections got kind of intertwined.
un-vandal?
Hey Huntster, how you doing tonight? I noticed you fixed the image/link thing on my talk page, and... history shows that the editor before you was a vandal - then unvandal. Didn't know if he really thought twice about his post - or if you removed something REALLY NASTY with one of your super-duper admin buttons.
Which reminds me of something I never figured out. When I first started, I went to my user page, and since it was blank with the edit box - I went to read about editing basics. When I came back to start my user page, there was a page there that just said lolololol. I created (or rather edited) the page, and started my wiki-career. After I learned a little more, (page history, user contribs, etc.) I came back. the lololol thing seems to be the only edit user Nickjenk ever made? Just seems very strange - any ideas? Oh well, nothing really important or anything - was just curious. Hope life and edits are treating you well. — Ched ~ (yes?) 00:54, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
- Have you signed up yet? ... Will you put in a good word for me ... LMFAO. — Ched ~ (yes?) 02:27, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
IRL
(X-Posted) I'm a bit haggard and out-of-it at the moment (really really bad week) and failed to follow up with Tech regarding those screenshots. I'll try to write something tomorrow. If either of you need advise regarding image licensing of any kind, please ask on my talk page. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 19:22, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
- HEY HUNTSTER! - Sounds like you need a break from real life <* enter Wikipedia, stage left *> .. Just kidding. I was guessing that IRL was pressing you, but was hoping it was all in a good way ;( .. I'll hope now that it's work related (and due to the economy and nation wide rates - a distinct possibility). At worst I'll hope that it's school related, and something that some hard work can overcome all issues. I figure you may be closing in on finals before long (at least many of our fine educational facilities are anyway). I surely hope it's not personal issues that have caused a "really really bad week". I have a few items to fill you in on (minor in comparison, and perhaps you're already aware of them), but I'll hold off on that until you've grabbed some relaxation. Appreciate the offer on image items, and will take you up on that when the time comes. Remember, editors may only be "wiki-friends", but at the end of a TCP/IP sits a real person who is a friend IRL too. — Ched ~ (yes?) 01:33, 8 March 2009 (UTC) (ps - hope I did the x-post thing right)
Language question
Hello, I've got a question about the meaning of a sentence. Does "No-one must do X" mean:
- "No-one is required to do X" or
- "No-one is allowed to do X"?
This confuses me because I learned in school that "must do" and "must not do" have a different meaning than "have to do" and "don't have to do", and I don't know in which way "no-one" negates the "must". Thanks. (Feel free to reply here.) – sgeureka t•c 14:51, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
- sorry to but in - but Huntster seems pretty busy IRL lately. In my area (NE USA - Pittsburgh, PA) - it usually means no one should do X. (or it's not allowed) ;) — Ched ~ (yes?) 16:36, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, Ched. – sgeureka t•c 21:56, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, Ched is right...it is disallowing the person(s) from doing X (rather than simply not requiring the action). In my experience, the term "must" creates an absolute condition, which cannot (or should not) be negated. Sorry I've been mostly absent lately...things are a bit rough lately. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 03:14, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Amy Lee
I was combing through the archives at Talk:Amy Lee recently, and I found a section in one of said archives, where someone brought up her declining popularity, and you said you had lost respect for her like other people. I was just wondering, out of pure curiosity, why have you lost respect for her? Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking this question so I can judge you, because I'm not her biggest fan either, aside from her music, as you can tell on the talk page (which I apologize for starting that unnecessary debate, it was really pointless of me to do that). --Whip it! Now whip it good! 06:25, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
I did a little work on the article - hope that's ok. — Ched ~ (yes?) 10:53, 12 March 2009 (UTC) (hope things are getting better for you as well)
TN Project banner
Hey Huntster, this question is not urgent, I heard you are pretty busy. I was thinking of making the banner similar to the Arkansas project banner, with the B-class checklist in it but I do not want to do that at the location. Is it possible to do that in the user sandbox? That meta-banner also includes sub-pages, and I have no experience with that. Well, I am also not sure if anyone is interested at all. Has the actual project work ceased and everyone is pursuing their own stuff or do you think no one cares? Or is the lack of responses to be interpreted as no (or yes)? Take care, doxTxob \ talk 22:59, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
Vandalized home page
8 - didn't know if it was one you wanted to post. — Ched ~ (yes?)/© 05:48, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
- I dumped to AIV for harassment - Todd1 blocked for "Much Longer" which works out to a month - so you should free from the bullshit at least through mid-April. Hope r/l is getting better, see you're getting in a couple edits here and there. — Ched ~ (yes?)/© 06:09, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
JIK
Just in case you haven't had time to check out the vandalism of your talk page: This may be tied into an unblock request for this IP. It all seems to revolve around the edits here And in case you're wondering, I'm the one that asked Peter about what should be done on the vandalism on IRC - I know you're a big boy and can handle your own pages, but I also know you've been busy too. Hope I haven't ticked you off - just watching out for my friends. ;) — Ched ~ (yes?)/© 01:53, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Yeah, I'm 100% sure all three are the same person; their actions are the hallmark of a novice and not very keen sockpuppeteer. I've just not cared enough to take action...I'll wait till they step over the line, because it appears they do make useful edits elsewhere. I can't figure out why they are so latched-on to keeping that plagiarised content. Regardless, I do appreciate you watching my back...I'm not the least bit ticked off. Sorry I've not really responded to anything lately; things are just very down right now. I'll catch up soon, I hope. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 02:33, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- Just so you know that one of the guys you took in off the streets is doin' ok - I have 2 DYK articles going on mainpage tonight back to back - one of them in top spot! I know it's not as important as real life, but hope it helps a little. All my best buddy ;) — Ched ~ (yes?)/© 00:59, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
"33" citation
I'm confused because there is no reference to a "Production no." in the citation you provided here. Could you contribute to that article's talk page and elabourate? — pd_THOR | =/\= | 02:23, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) My understanding was that the 101 in the URL is the production code. If you strongly disagree, then remove the citation. While I agree with you that since there is a challenge, a source must be provided, I also believe this to be an extremely minor issue not worth the contention, and the length and tone of this debate is, I fear, becoming a bit "pointy". So long as the season and episode number is identified, an actual production number is mere trivia. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 02:58, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- Discussed ad nauseam on the talk page is that there is no explicit source for a production code; the URL is certainly not a reliable source, and that page's title refers to that as an episode number, "Episode 101". I appreciate your concurrence with regard to my challenging the information, it would bear moreso on that page. I don't think including the information is worth edit warring over either, but I'm not Edokter (talk · contribs). — pd_THOR | =/\= | 03:26, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- Found a reference for UK air-dates here - hope that helps. — (posted to article and UT as well) — Ched ~ (yes?)/© 05:32, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- It appears that ʌ it ʌ wasn't .. oh well, I tried. Don't shoot the messenger, but I thought you should be aware of this indirect reference. — Ched ~ (yes?)/© 18:46, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
I revised the history for East Literature Magnet School. Its shorter, and is not not be a copy of what is on the actual site. Check it out and tell me what you think. Terrancee (talk) 21:51, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- (X-Posted) Hey there, thanks for reworking the history section. It seems fine now. If you have time in the future, it would be good to find sources to back up the information presented. Cheers. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 22:30, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Lost
per this, first thank you. But I don't understand why I was a target for that kind of crap. Is it all somehow wrapped up with the TN schools, and my wiki-friendship with you? Or is it just random luck of the draw? Not that it matters all that much, not really a big deal - just curious. — Ched ~ (yes?)/© 10:28, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
re:Commas following dates (and states)
(X-Posted) Hey there, regarding this edit, please note that (as stated in Comma#Uses under "In dates", etc.) most grammar manuals recommend commas after the year when using U.S.-style dating. I've reverted that change accordingly. Cheers! — Huntster (t • @ • c) 3:38 am, 27 March 2009, Friday (10 months, 30 days ago) (UTC−5)
- Wow, I did not know that. That's a very strange rule that goes against instinct, but I guess I have to follow it. Anyway, thanks for bringing this to my attention. -Sesu Prime (talk) 19:12, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Recurring Abusive Users
Out of curiosity, what options are there for determining if a current user is actually the same person as a past user who has been blocked? I ask because the recent edit history of User:Cadet Programs and User:68.187.89.72 appear very similar to past edits by User:Braaad. He has established multiple sock puppets in the past, and has a history of odd and abusive behavior. Thanks. McNeight (talk) 20:43, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- I neglected to link to the original RfC that determined the reasons for blocking Braaad. McNeight (talk) 17:14, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hey-Huntster!
- I have just read some fairly shocking things that this McNeight person has written about other users and I am concerned that he is now trying defame my character through additional libelous commentary. Many of McNeight's comments are quite shocking, threatening, rude, and down right bizarre. I thought this was going to be a fun place?! After being attacked by OuroborosCobra, I have NO desire for another round by someone who wants to connect me to happenings in 2005. WOW--CyberStalkers are everywhere. I think I must leave Wiki Land forever. Maybe you have some oversight where these dangerous people are concerned. Cadet Programs (talk) 17:29, 5 April 2009 (UTC) Peace to you my friend.
