Template:Template:National sports teams of Indonesia listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Template:Template:National sports teams of Indonesia. Since you had some involvement with the Template:Template:National sports teams of Indonesia redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. Thanks very much Dolotta. Only me 14 years to achieve! Cheers – Ianblair23 (talk) 00:00, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Although the MOS is and always has been surprisingly useful, there are just a few points where, despite loud protestations to the contrary, the MOS just doesn't reflect a consensus, because it's obvious there's no consensus and there probably never will be. An obvious example is non-breaking spaces; I've never met any two people (among those who like to insert them) who use exactly the same rules for where to insert them. I deal with that conflict by avoiding it ... so, well before Main Page day, someone (generally Art LaPella) will come along and insert them where he likes them. No one has disagreed with him so far, but if someone wants to, that's fine by me. The edits you've been making lately appear to be violations of the usual FAC interpretation of WP:NOTBROKEN ... but such edits in Main Page sections are common (as Art has often pointed out, and Espresso Addict too, I think), so this may be another area where there isn't a consensus and never will be ... and if so, that's fine by me, as long as anyone who has a strong point of view on the matter does their editing well before Main Page day. Another point: if you want to edit a blurb when it's actually on the Main Page, be sure to check the article first to see if the article has been changed ... it had, in this case. I'm interested in any thoughts you have on this issue. - Dank (push to talk) 15:17, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

Oh, I forgot to add: since the 21st, we've been vetting TFA blurbs right after articles are promoted at FAC, on the talk pages of the FAC nomination pages. If there's some general change you want in the way links are handled at TFA, then you (or I) can raise the issue in those vetting processes so that we can gauge the response. - Dank (push to talk) 15:23, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
Sigh. Pinging User:Modulus12. Okay, you guys win ... you can pipe any redirects you like, and I'll start avoiding redirects in any new blurbs I do ... on one condition: if a future discussion goes the other way and upholds WP:NOTBROKEN at TFA, it's on you to put the redirects back in. I don't care who wins this fight, as long as I'm not getting jerked around. - Dank (push to talk) 00:28, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
I really don't have a strong opinion either, but I do know MOS:DYKPIPE exists, discouraging redirects there, and thought maybe the logic applied to the rest of the Main Page. I can also maybe see a small benefit to not using redirects on the Main Page because nobody watches a redirect for vandalism. Modulus12 (talk) 00:43, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Geoff Harvey

On 10 February 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Geoff Harvey, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Geoff Harvey, former musical director for the Nine Network Australia, composed the theme song for The Sullivans for his wife's cousin's wedding? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Geoff Harvey. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Geoff Harvey), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

A tag has been placed on Template:High Commissioners and Ambassadors of Australia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

2019 World Aquatics Championships

Hi! I see you can modify the Module:Team appearances list/data. Please add to the World Aquatics Championships 2017 for Kuwait. Kuwait participated as Suspended Member Federation in 2017. In the North Macedonia article the 2019 link is red, after the change of the country name, but the country code is the same. I don't know what changes are needed ffor this. Thank you. Thanks for uploading File:Yachting Australia logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. T3 deletion summary

Hi, I saw that you deleted Template:Cricket centurions with summary ‎(T3: Unused, redundant template). I have been trying to change this summary since T3 doesn't say anything about the template being unused as discussed at Wikipedia_talk:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion/Archive_75#T3_and_unused and thought it had been successful up until now. My question now is if you used any script or anything while deleting this template so I can track down where we forgot to change it. ‑‑Trialpears (talk) 10:17, 10 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!
