Thanks for voting on my RFA, although it was unsuccessful, I do appreciate the feedback. Thanks especially for being able to take time with me that day on IRC and give me advice, I’m very thankful for it. I wish you luck in all your wiki-on-goings and I hope to see you around!--danielfolsom 03:16, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Sorry to be slow replying - I do not know of a 25 DYK medal for the top of the page. Would it be possible to jsut put the regular medal up there? There are many users who have rows of stuff on the top - could you look at how they do it and copy the trick? SG Analytics
hi,
I am an employee of SG Analytics and am working on creating a wikipedia page for our company. Since 15 days i am trying to get in touch with a person who can guide us how to create a wikipedia page. Would request you if you could please remove our page from your website for now as it is pulling the deletion message as well and also please guide us what is the process for creating a wikipedia page.
Thank you in advance and hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks.
Thank you for helping me avoid making a complete fool of myself. [[User:Tutthoth-Ankhre|Tutthoth-Ankhre~ The Pharaoh of the Universe]] (talk) 16:32, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

George Treby
I've made George Treby a disambiguation page; the LCJ can go to George Treby (judge). Choess (talk) 17:59, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
- No need, I've already been through and fixed all the disambiguation. (The George Treby Leigh identifies as dying aft. 1727 is George Treby (politician), who is elsewhere correctly identified as d. 1742.) Choess (talk) 19:55, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Interested in trying to help out with DSM project? The classification angle is good and we've got a lot of poorly written articles in mental health that we can organize. Mindsite (talk) 20:50, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

re Judge. Hey your writing style needs to come out more in the articles...!!! I see your point but suggest severity is not quite the right word. Seems he was able to deal the KINGs justice, but his morality eventually became more important. Hope this helps. I won't oppose the hook... this is just advice which you are free to ignore. Cheers. keep up the good work Victuallers (talk) 08:18, 18 September 2008 (UTC) twas a compliment. I dcon't manage it, but the wiki should be lighter than your average ref book. Oh and if your up for requests then a challenge to some Derbyshire articles - which? Well political and historical.... the early history of the county? Victuallers (talk) 11:57, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- coincidence... Philip Marc is my last article. I noticed that Sheriffs of Derbyshire didn't start until 1449... I had been chipping away at them... which is how I found Philip. And I then thought ... how did the county start? Hmmm thats a task for "someone" .... hence my challenge to you! Victuallers (talk) 12:29, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

FYI
Were you aware that Wikipedia does case folding on the first letter of an internal link? i.e., I can link Serjeant-at-law or serjeant-at-law and both come out the same. (Just noticed some odd capitalization while fiddling with John Vaughan.) Choess (talk) 02:50, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I do, actually. (I have an archive of awards stashed somewhere, I guess I've been keeping a low editing profile lately.) On a related subject, take a look at pipe trick; if you type "George Treby (judge)|" inside double brackets, for instance, it automagically creates a piped link in the form of "George Treby (judge)|George Treby" when it saves your edit. Handy finger-saver. I'll be around grinding away at High Sheriffs at some point; the scope of that task is monstrous. (Ballpark estimate 5,000 sheriffs Gazetted, to say nothing of earlier ones!) Choess (talk) 12:48, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- Bwahahahahahahhahahahahaha. Er. That is, "yes". The appointments for High Shrievalties are all published together (except for Cornwall in years when there's a Duke); you can basically swipe the "ref" tags off of High Sheriff of Cheshire, or use User:Choess/Sheriffs. I usually open up a decade's worth of Gazettes at a time and add 10 apiece to each county until I run out of steam. As regards the broader question, see Advanced Search at the London Gazette. The search engine can be finicky (it doesn't always do so well with long phrases), but there's an immense quantity of data to mine there. Choess (talk) 13:00, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- For the time being, I'm concentrating on about 1830–1859, say. That should keep me busy for a while; we can rendezvous again later. I'm at a loss as far as partitioning Yorkshire goes. I don't know if there's any logical breakpoint other than what's already there. (If we expressed the dates as single years and put a note at the top saying "appointments are made on the nth of the given year and last for..." that might save some bytes, at least.) Choess (talk) 13:09, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- Real life called for a while, but I just wanted to tell you not to under-rate yourself as an article writer. You're producing a lot of good content at a good clip, and if I can sneak in and make little tweaks, it's because I've been marinating in the twisty little rules and conventions here for several year now. By all means keep up the good work. Choess (talk) 21:11, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

I've taken the look you requested. You might also fold the "Amalgamation" section into the end of "History", as I doubt it will be a substantial standalone section. Mostly I've made minor copyedits; you should probably take a look to make sure I haven't changed the sense of anything by mistake. Choess (talk) 22:49, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

LCJ vs CJ of the Common Pleas
Duly noted, thanks. (Did I goof that up somewhere?) I'll be busy for a bit filling your new shrievalty categories. Keep up the good work, as always. Choess (talk) 21:47, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, here's something weird. The text of the Judicature Act refers to the "Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas". Odd. Choess (talk) 21:58, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Look about the middle of the page I linked just above, after "Master of the Rolls". I'm American, as it happens; I just enjoy untangling the intricacies of the British system of Parliament/officialdom/peerage. (And can answer Dicken's question as to whether the Deputy Chaff-Wax is "a man, or what is it?") Fortunately, there seems to be no shortage of materials online about the subject that yet remain to be incorporated into Wikipedia. Choess (talk) 22:08, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, maybe I can put you up for a while if you're serious about being a knight appellant. You see, in the nearby state of Maryland, the state constitution declares "That the Inhabitants of Maryland are entitled to the Common Law of England, and the trial by Jury, according to the course of that Law, and to the benefit of such of the English statutes as existed on the Fourth day of July, seventeen hundred and seventy-six". Since Parliament didn't abolish trial by combat by statue until 1819, it logically follows (barring those pesky "due process" clauses in the 5th and 14th Amendments) that residents of Maryland are entitled to invoke wager of battle to decide a case. Did I mention that jousting has been the official state sport of Maryland since 1962? Choess (talk) 22:24, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- This does get tricky. You might be able to arrange something with the Bearer of the Royal Banner, the Earl of Dundee to have the banner show up, but I don't know how you'd manage the Royal Assent, unless maybe a friendly MP could slip a clause into a spending bill, or something. At least you have the martial arts down. (I used to spend some time with the Society for Creative Anachronism, but nowadays my free moments seem to get applied to compiling lists of sheriffs and suchlike.) Choess (talk) 22:44, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- GROAN. You know, it appears there's no statutory bar for the sovereign to draw up a writ of summons for a serjeant-at-law, even today. How oft have you been "at the parvis"? Choess (talk) 23:06, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Get a crat to endorse the format, or at the very least keep them in the loop so as to prevent any drama on the format's difference. It looks okay to me at first appearance. Wishing you all the best in your RfA - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 18:44, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

- Yo, Ironholds. Congrats for having the courage to do this. Just to echo el diablo above, it would be a good idea to be very explicit about the format before you kick things off e.g. "x hours during which all !votes will be removed, followed by y days of voting".
