— Earwig talk 21:11, 3 September 2013 (UTC)Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Leela Chess Zero
[edit]Thanks for making edits to Leela Chess Zero, but I'm not sure it's necessary to keep it up to date on a daily basis. It would probably be better just to wait until the competition is over and then post the results then. Kaldari (talk) 05:47, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Undefined references
[edit]Hi, in both Myriopteris wootonii and Myriopteris fendleri you call a reference "Grusz & Windham 2013" but you do not define it. Not only does this add the articles to Category:Harv and Sfn no-target errors, it also means that nobody can look the reference up. If you could fix this that would be great. Thanks, DuncanHill (talk) 16:18, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks - I don't understand the automated referencing - will try to fix. FYI it is supposed to be the same reference as on the Myriopteris genus page. James H. Thomas, PhD MIT (talk) 16:33, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Knowing it was from Myriopteris I was able to copy it from there to the pages - you can see what I did here. DuncanHill (talk) 16:37, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah actually they have a bunch of papers and it was a different one. I think I have fixed both now if you could take a look. Thanks for your help! James H. Thomas, PhD MIT (talk) 16:48, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Looks OK (assuming you've got the right paper). I'm not a fan of sfn style references, not least because they are so hard for people to get the hang of! DuncanHill (talk) 16:53, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- I don't even know what they are. :-) I just copied a template... but it is nice that it finds the full title etc and puts that on the page.
- It is the right paper. It has a phylogeny, which I am an expert in. James H. Thomas, PhD MIT (talk) 16:55, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Haha the original page was linked to the wrong paper. Will try to get them all updated asap. James H. Thomas, PhD MIT (talk) 19:26, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry, this is probably my fault for using {{sfn}} extensively on fern pages. You put in the reference at the bottom using the usual CS1 templates like {{cite journal}} and {{cite book}}, and then use sfn like a Harvard reference (in the non-wiki sense): {{sfn|author1|author2|year|p=page}} and it automagically makes a footnote linking to the reference in the section below with the specified page number. More useful when you're citing from a bunch of books than journals, tbh, and sometimes I wind up mixing the two. It does mean you can copy the {{cite...}} templates around to duplicate references. [edit]Hello James, I appreciate your work, especially your excellent images that you have added to articles. I have marked some of your files for "speedy deletion". That's because they have the license "CC BY-NC" (mostly from iNaturalist). Files with that license are not allowed in Commons. (More information here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_policy.) I will get to the others in due course, unless you change them first. Sorry. Lots of us (including me) have been caught by this. Gderrin (talk) 02:24, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, I have gotten caught before and then I forgot about it. Haha. My mistake. I think I got rid of the others (or at least the page links) and will try to remember in the future. Thanks for your help. James H. Thomas, PhD MIT (talk) 15:24, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Lomatium roneorum Mat-Below iNat-156006034.jpeg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Lomatium roneorum Mat-Below iNat-156006034.jpeg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Estopedist1 (talk) 08:07, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for October 12
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Phlox douglasii, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Washington State. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
