James Milner Career section
Not really asking for full feedback on this article (although I wouldn’t mind it). I’d just like to know what you feel the best way the divide up the Career section is, by Club, by season, not at all or some other way. Please leave your reply under the section in my talk page named “Milner Career section”. Buc 16:24, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I have tagged Image:R_racing_c_de_santander.gif as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. OsamaK 00:21, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:R_racing_c_de_santander.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:R_racing_c_de_santander.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:21, 17 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 00:21, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Quick solicitation of your opinion
As someone who seems to accept the use of "soccer" as unfortunate but necessary given the scope of WP, I thought I'd pose a question to you. In a disambiguation page where one of the entries is for a football terms, which would you prefer:
- xxx (soccer) -- could annoy the football fans who are the most likely to be searching for the term, or
- xxx (football) -- could cause confusion to non-football fans who are browsing the dab page
As per the WP:MOSDAB recommendations), I had previously created a redirect, from xxx (soccer) to the section of the relevant target page, so that the dab page didn't have a piped link. However, another editor has replaced the redirect with a piped link, and changed the displayed term from "xxx (soccer)" to "xxx (football)" while he was there. I've created a second redirect, using xxx (football) instead, but would like a third opinion on which would be the most helpful before I tidy the entry up, as I'd like to minimize the chances of a revert war. --DeLarge 09:00, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
- Update -- looks like it's been resolved. The page in question was Libero, but the edits were reverted by a third party, and I think the original editor who was removing references to "soccer" (Daddy Kindsoul) is serving out a block just now. Might as well just ignore this message. --DeLarge 09:54, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Hellas verona fc.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:Hellas verona fc.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. The Old Guard
I have noticed that you have argued the title of the unit commonly referred to as The Old Guard in the past. I have decided to re-examine this discussion and it is currently being discussed on two talk pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Military_history#The_Old_Guard - The more complete argument
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:3rd_US_Infantry#Title_of_article - The talk page to the article
I would appreciate it if you could please examine the argument and weigh in on your own personal thoughts. -TabooTikiGod 11:54, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Need some advice
Hey Johan. I'm coming to you for some help as you are a soccer minded admin. Recently User:SchuminWeb speedy deleted an article on John Ball (soccer). John Ball is a fully professional player, who competes in the USL-1, the second highest level of US soccer. When asked for justification for the deletion, he claimed deletion criterion A7 (non-notable individuals), and the reason for no AfD was WP:SNOW. Obviously I disagree with him, as my impression of the notability standards for soccer players is that if they have played professionally, they are notable enough for Wikipedia (correct me if I am wrong). The discussion can be found at User talk:SchuminWeb. In your opinion, am I in the right or am I wrong? Cheers Johan! м info 04:52, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- I suggest you bring it up at the talk page of the football WikiProject. I'm a bit busy right now but there are many other users there that will help you. Without looking at this specific case though, anyone playing in a fully professional league is generally notable. – Elisson • T • C • 15:51, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
James Milner Off the pitch section
Over the past few weeks I’ve been researching desperately to try and expand this section. But for the most part I can only find very trivial facts. Another user has told me that off the pitch sections are not mandatory and in this case it would be best to remove it completely. I’m not so sure, however minor his off the pitch activities might be it would be useful to give an idea of what he’s like as a person.
Please give me your views. Should it be expanded, removed completely or charged in some other way. Please give your views in the Milner Off the pitch section on my talk page. Buc 16:39, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Footbal popularity map
Description label on footbal popularity map shows number of players per 1000 inhabitants. This is not correct, because it shows only number of registered player participating in some national footbal organizations. This info can be found in fifa survey. My pesonal impression is not based on real statistics but, according to results of championships, number of famous footbalist originating from footbal-fun countries, footbal is more popular in Turkey, Ukraine and probably Belorussia then in Russian Federation. My suggestion is to chanage label "Players per 1000 inhabitants" it may be better to change description of this image to more correct form "number of persons participating in national footbal organizatons" or something like this but shorter. Russians like footbal, but they also like to claim themself "legal anchestors of USSR", which is also not very correct. This is very usual when statisticians mix USSR(>300mln pop) and Russian Federation(~140mln pop). DmitriyR 18:26, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Footballer
You read my mind. I was just about to remove the tags. I had just left a note on the User's talk page regarding discussion. Thanks for removing the tags. If anything it should be merged with Football not Football (soccer) though what it really needs is an expansion and some cleanup. Thanks Woodym555 13:27, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

San Marino in Swedish
I'm currently in the middle of expanding San Marino national football team, because good articles about unexpected subjects is what Wikipedia is all about. In looking for sources I came across this piece from Offside. Does it contain any significant information not already in the article? Oldelpaso 09:34, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'll check it out sometime this week! Haven't got much spare time for Wikipedia currently. :( – Elisson • T • C • 15:26, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- It doesn't mention any significant info, what I can see, but it elaborates a little more about the 1-0 lead against England, then a long part is an interview with the manager and his view on the Sanmarinese football, and last a report from a match with the "star player" Andy Selva. Perhaps the only thing in there that could merit a mention in the article is Massimo Bonini, the best Sanmarinese player ever, who played 296 matches for Juventus, and won 3 Scudetti and the European Cup, and a lot more. – Elisson • T • C • 19:25, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

HIF
If you weren't aware, I can inform you that "HeIF" is considered offensive by most supporters of HIF and is mostly used as a deliberate provocation. Therefore it shouldn't be used at all on Wikipedia. Also, I think the distinction between HaIF and HIF is clear enough to most people. If you find it unclear my suggestion is to use "HAM" and "HIF" or "HAM" and "HEL", which is what the Swedish FA and TV companies use to separate the teams. --84.216.37.118 21:52, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- I sincerely doubt that it is mostly used as a "deliberate provocation". Offensive? How can an abbreviation be offensive? I've used IFKG as abbreviation för IFK Göteborg on those pages, even though I would never use it myself in another context. The thing is, all abbreviations use the pre-/suffixes such as IF, IK, FF or IFK plus the first letter of the club. If the combination is not unique in the particular table, the second letter of the club is also included. This is done to standardise the abbreviations, which helps people that are not familiar with Swedish football to easily find the right column. Since there should be tables for all seasons ever, using the "official" abbreviations just complicates the matter. – Elisson • T • C • 18:56, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Featured List of the Day Experiment
There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:25, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi Johan, as you are quite familiar with the various football/soccer templates, and I'd like to have you take a look at the above template. Another editor asked me to look at it, to explain the problems, and I was really not able to figure out what was up with the template. For me, and the other editor, it is displaying quite oddly, at the top it is showing raw code of: ''This box: view • talk • [{{fullurl:Template:AFC Cup 2007|action=edit}} edit]'' and overlapping the title of the template box. When I looked at it earlier, it was fine, and I don't see a recent change to the template, so I'm a bit stumped. The article that we noticed it on is Tampines Rovers FC, if that helps. Thanks in advance, Ariel♥Gold 06:05, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- It seems to work all right to me, and as you say, it hasn't been edited lately, and neither has the other template on top of it, or the {{fb start}} tag, so I guess your problem is due to something else and has nothing to do with the actual template. Have you and the other editor tried to purge the cache to check if it has something to do with that? – Elisson • T • C • 17:56, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah it is very odd. At first, it displayed fine for me when he brought it to my attention, so I purged the cache, and then I saw what he did with the weird formatting. Then, today, I checked and it is fine. WikiWeirdness, I guess, lol. Thanks for looking into it! Ariel♥Gold 23:06, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
