Invitation
[edit]Hello Kiwipete!
- The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
- We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
- Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
- Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
- If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.
Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay
[edit]Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
Kiwipete (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
I am not currently blocked, but I often connect to the internet through my VPS. When I do this, I am blocked from editing any page on Wikipedia, including my own talk page. I am soon to go on holiday, when once again all traffic from my computer will be routed through my VPS. I appreciate if this request is not well-timed, but I'm trying to ensure that there will be no block once I am on holiday. I note that in Q4 on WP:BLOCKFAQ, it states that "using an account to edit Wikipedia will allow you to do so even when the IP address or range of your network is blocked". I always login to Wikipedia before performing any edits, so I hope that this statement carries some weight. Many thanks, Kiwipete (talk) 07:59, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
Accept reason:
If you are not affected by a block, please don't make an unblock request. You may use the administrator help request tag or go to WP:AN directly. I think you are asking for an IP block exemption- as a longtime user I will give you a short term one(a month). If you need something longer term, please email the checkuser team(see WP:IPECPROXY). 331dot (talk) 08:38, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help, User:331dot. Kiwipete (talk) 08:43, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- And I've just successfully made an edit while connected to my VPS :) Kiwipete (talk) 08:47, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
Can you remove topic about me in Talk Page of 25th December?
[edit]Hello, do you remember me? We had a bit of dispute and edit war about me not providing links a while ago. You wrote on my talk page, and I gave you not the kindest of words... I want to apologize for any personal offencives towards you, I had a bad day and wasn't in the best mood of mine. Now I understood I wasn't right. But the topic with my name still remains in Talk Section of 25th December for everyone to see, and I find it a little emarassing and ashaming. I can't remove it, so can I ask you to do that, as you are the one who allowed to as an author. Let's forget that incident without making a clown out of me for the world to see, please. Glebushko0703 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Glebushko0703 (talk • contribs) 15:21, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Glebushko0703, thanks, I appreciate your words and understanding. The talk topic has been moved to the archive. Theoretically, anyone could still view it, but they would have to be searching for it. Regards, Kiwipete (talk) 04:07, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Glebushko0703 - I took your first apology at face value, which I now realise was to my regret. Please make sure you follow the relevant guidlines when editing DOY articles. Oh and yes, I have just been out to my backyard and touched the grass. It hasn't changed anything with regards to your edits. Kiwipete (talk) 04:25, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Kiwipete Many individuals from bands do not have wiki pages dedicated specifically for them, and I've seen plenty DOYS with those, and they all provided links to pages of their bands.
- If you think that shouldn't be like that, erase the links, leaving only people and citations, there's no reason to remove them from the list altogether.
- And if think that is fair, please, do that on all DOY pages with similiar cases, not just the ones you happen to see. Stand your point, and make Wikipedia better place!
- First time I really wasn't right, but after this last case, I have a feeling you just like to do undo.
- I don't see a reason for that last undo, I would be happy if you could specify it for me please in the rules, because I can't find it.

Thomas Calabro - 3 February
[edit]Hi, I would like to know why my Thomas Calabro post was deleted from the 3 February article? What was the problem with that? I just want to understand that I won't do anything like that next time. Cakesam (talk) 11:32, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Cakesam, you would see from my edit summary that when a new entry is added, it must be supported by an inline citation, as per WP:DOYCITE. This would also have been pointed out to you in the "Please read before editing" message displayed at the top of the page when you edited it. Thanks, Kiwipete (talk) 04:02, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

I would like to apply for a permanent IP block exemption. As noted above, I recently had a temporary IP block exemption. This trial period was, I believe, conducted successfully. I am now applying for a permanent exemption, for the same reasons, i.e. I am shortly about to go on holiday and will be using my VPS, and Q4 of WP:BLOCKFAQ still applies. Many thanks, Kiwipete (talk) 09:12, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- Permanent exemptions are not granted; the most that you can get is a year. 331dot (talk) 09:24, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks @331dot. Can I then please get the exemption for the next year? Kiwipete (talk) 07:16, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

citations for celeb dates of birth
[edit]Almost none of the celeb births on the December 31 page have citations yet I have to add them to new ones that should already be on the page? why don't you go round deleting all of them then? 78.86.134.164 (talk) 20:10, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
Enquiry for my revert
[edit]Hi there, Kiwipete,
I was wanting to post a name for a recently-celebrated Prime Minister who just inaugurated yesterday, Lawrence Wong. I had my post reverted because of a lack of citation, but what can I do to make it better next time and hopefully, putting said name again without a revert? Thanks. Sculture65 (talk) 13:09, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Sculture65, thanks a lot for your question. I saw that you added Lawrence Wong to the Births section of December 18. I reverted your change, because there is now a requirement that all new entries added to DOY (Day Of Year) articles have to be supported with an inline citation. If you look at the Lawrence Wong article, you will see that two citations have been given for his date of birth. You could use one of these citations, or any other source you can find, that verifies his date of birth. If you're not sure of the actual syntax to use, please ask me again. Regards, Kiwipete (talk) 19:01, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Kiwipete:, I didn't aware about the new policy about the two citations, largely because I haven't been editing Wikipedia after a year-long hiatus, but now I get it already. I study first before posting again. Thank you. Sculture65 (talk) 11:03, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Kiwipete, Yeah haha; I also didn't know the citation requires the user DOB, but I now got another lesson learnt. I understand. Sculture65 (talk) 08:05, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

Clarification for March 17
[edit]Hi, I noticed this revert and I need clarifications. I understand that I need inline citation for my entry which was my wrong obviously but what you stated after this doesn’t make sense to me. You said that "and there is already an entry in the Births section". I didn’t put that as birth of the person. I wrote that because it is a public holiday in Bangladesh and it is an separate article about how his birthday became the public holiday and how it is observed by the country. I didn’t know that editors can't keep these things in the holiday section because of the existing birthday fact in the related section. For example, the page December 25 has the birth of Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the birth section. His birthday is public holiday in Pakistan so there is a line in the holiday section Quaid-e-Azam's Day which redirected to Jinnah's birthday article. So I don't see any out-of-rule edit (except the inline citation). I believe I need a clarification about it.
Also I also have written the fact again but with an inline citation in March 17 as it is the public holiday and not about the birth of the person (see here). I think it is not enough reason to show for the revert that the birth section already mentions that because the article Birthday of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is about the public holiday. But if there is any problem with the source then please tell me, I will replace that with better source. Mehedi Abedin (talk) 19:50, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, sorry, you're right, there's no problem having one entry for his birth and another for the public holiday. Regards, Kiwipete (talk) 22:30, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
Rollback reason
[edit]Hi there. You recently reverted my rollback of a user, for example on this edit. That's fine if you wish to reinstate it. However the reason these were all bulk rolled back is that the IP represents a Brazilian LTA who disrupts dates, and especially timezones and individual date articles. It's obviously fine to reinstate them if you think they are valid and wish to take responsibility for them, but this is an LTA who has been IP hopping for years and is effectively banned due to the blocks and disruption over an extended time period. I just thought you should have an explanation. Canterbury Tail talk 12:20, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
Question about WP:EVENTDOY
[edit]Hi Kiwipete,
I see that you've reverted 2 of my edits citing WP:EVENTDOY (April 7 and March 17). How does WP:EVENTDOY apply?
Based on a reading, I'd summarize the rule as:
- A holiday or an observance needs to have their Wikipedia entry
- Be currently celebrated
- Should occur on the same date annually
I don't believe the above rules apply to events that are not holidays or observances (the phrasing in WP:EVENTDOY is a bit ambiguous, I'll admit). Otherwise, there would be no way to add one-time events like assassinations, abdications etc., and I see plenty of those. CoolAndUniqueUsername (talk) 22:08, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I think you're actually right. I have assumed, maybe incorrectly, that there had to be an actual article about the event. Kiwipete (talk) 08:22, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying. I'll reintroduce those changes. CoolAndUniqueUsername (talk) 14:47, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
Undid revision
[edit]In the article "August 28" you undid revision my edition, Anita Sharp-Bolster was an Irish actress that worked in many films. Sirslayercort (talk) 16:46, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, that's right. You would have seen the reason in my edit summary - "new entries require an inline citation, please see WP:DOYCITE". Kiwipete (talk) 04:46, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

Your deletion of the July 22 entry of “Soviet space dogs: Dezik and Tsygan”
[edit]Regarding your recent deletion in July 22, can you please explain to me how “Soviet space dogs: Dezik and Tsygan” does not meet WP:EVENTDOY, yet this entry immediately below does?
- 1962 – Mariner program: Mariner 1 spacecraft flies erratically several minutes after launch and has to be destroyed.
Ilenart626 (talk) 07:22, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- There are many old entries which would not meet current standards like WP:EVENTDOY and WP:DOYCITE. There are several editors who are actively updating or removing such entries. Thanks, Kiwipete (talk) 18:41, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- With regard to “Dezik and Tsygan”, it looks like the main criteria for wp:EVENTDOY is that there is an article about the subject, which there is - Dezik and Tsygan. This subject is also mentioned in a number of other articles, including Soviet space dogs and Animals in space. Finally on notability, this was the first time dogs had been launched into space, and more importantly, have returned safely. Previous to this flight all the higher order animals were killed, either intentionally or by accident. I also note that Timeline of space exploration specifies “This is a timeline of space exploration which includes notable achievements, first accomplishments and milestones in humanity's exploration of outer space.” Given that the achievements of “Dezik and Tsygan” are notable enough to appear on this timeline, I believe it is notable enough to appear on the July 22 page. Therefore I request that you reconsider your deletion of this entry. Ilenart626 (talk) 04:27, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- Can you please take this to the article's talk page - you should seek a broader consensus. Kiwipete (talk) 08:19, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
