- I can't tell you why other articles may have been accepted with lesser content. It depends on the article and the subject's notability. I declined this particular article because it was not encyclopedic; it is more like a directory listing than an actual article. Check out WP:NOT and New article creator tips. Cheers! Stella! Speedy deletion nomination of Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Berwick Gymnasium Arts Fellowship
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Berwick Gymnasium Arts Fellowship requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. France3470 (talk) 20:33, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for November 8
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Akris, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages English and German. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

David Wightman categories
[edit]Regarding recent edits to categories for David Wightman (painter) - please read WP:SUBCAT, in particular the parts that say an article should not be in both a child and parent category. Mitch Ames (talk) 08:01, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
- In response to your e-mail of 2018-04-25 22:33 (UTC+8)...
- You are correct in saying that "An English artist is, by definition, a British artist too", but that does not mean that the article is including in "British artists" categories directly. "English" categories (eg Category:English painters are sub-categories of "British" categories (eg Category:British painters), and WP:SUBCAT unambiguously says (with my emphasis, and examples added):
an article should be categorised as low down in the category hierarchy as possible [English ...], without duplication in parent categories [British ...] above it. In other words, a page or category should rarely be placed in both a category and a subcategory or parent category (supercategory)
- Likewise if the article is in Category:20th-century English painters it does not need to also be included directly in that category's supercategory Category:English painters.
- WP:SUBCAT does allow some exceptions to the general rule (eg non-diffusing categories) but they do not apply in this case.
- Please read and understand WP:SUBCAT, then remove the excess categories. If you think the general rule of non-duplication does not apply here, please explain exactly why (for any specific category that I removed), quoting the relevant part of SUBCAT. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:41, 26 April 2018 (UTC)

David Wightman categories, again
[edit]Once again we seem to disagree about whether David Wightman (painter) should be in Category:English painters. Diffs: [1][2][3][4]. Previous discussion: #David Wightman categories.
Given that:
- WP:SUBCAT says:
an article should be categorised as low down in the category hierarchy as possible, without duplication in parent categories above it. In other words, a page or category should rarely be placed in both a category and a subcategory or parent category
- David Wightman (painter) is in Category:English landscape painters, which is a diffusing subcategory of Category:English painters, so need not be directly in the latter
- Category:English painters itself has a hatnote that says
Pages in this category should be moved to subcategories where applicable. ... It should directly contain very few, if any, pages ...
Could you please explain why you think David Wightman (painter) should be in Category:English painters? Mitch Ames (talk) 02:26, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
