Electorate articles

[edit]

Are you really going to go through all 200-odd articles about federal electorates (plus I don't know many state ones) and tag them all as stubs? They are not stubs, they are short articles - what else can they be? What else can be said about the Division of Chisholm? I suppose it would be possible to write a detailed demographic and political history of each Division, but to what end? Who is going to research and write 200 such articles? Not me. Mayors.

[edit]

Thank you very much for taking the time to make the trip. At the moment, I think it would be sufficient if the GHC can verify the accuacy of the information on all subjects on the list. If anything else comes up, I guess that can always be handled later... Cheers, Folajimi (leave a note) 10:19, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Sorry about the my upgrade "Longhair", I am now up to speed with the process (I hope).

I now have the page up in the GA Class nominee page. Thanks for the headsup with this.

Ethnic groups

[edit]

Thanks. Well, I'd like to think that I was being fair, because I reverted some whitewashing on Vietnamese Australian recently. Also, now that I find myself patrolling a Sikh-Muslim-Hindu-Christian personal attack war on a variety of Indian religion articles, I put a survey on my user talk to see if people detect a relgious bias (if it exists) in my judgement. Cheers, and thanks for the support.Blnguyen | rant-line 07:37, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Editing issues.

[edit]

203.54.9.XX is still up to the same thing that user AYArktos was talking about. I was thinking how about blocking anonymous users from editing Murrumbidgee River and Gundagai for a few days. -- RobertM 07:42, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pages they are editing Murrumbidgee River, Talk:Murrumbidgee River and Gundagai, New South Wales. IP's 203.54.9.235 and 203.54.9.95. --RobertM 07:50, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's time to block the page now. There just going to get worse! Talk:Murrumbidgee River history. -- RobertM 10:29, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for the welcome. I'm sure that I will enjoy being a wikipedian!!!

Head-fi

[edit]
Why was this article deleted?

If someone could give us a clear reason for the deletion, we could perhaps fix it. As it was, we didn't have any time between the flagged for deletion and deletion to really fix anything.

  • I also would like to know why there is an entire section in wikipedia dedicated to online forums just like ours, and ours is not allowed to be here? I mean really if forums like something aweful and general mayhem (which serve no purpose) are allowed to exist here, why cant we? Flecom 12:04, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Australian people vs Lists of Australian people

[edit]

There is a lot of overlap between these two categories, what should be done? There are some subtle differences I notice, but shouldn't any category or article which is clearly and exclusively a list or a list of list be in only Category:Lists of Australians and not Category:Australian people? Or should I just have a bex and a good lie down? Thanks for your consideration of these pressing matters -- Grumpyyoungman01 06:40, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AYs anon

[edit]

The anon probably has an ISP with semi random IP assignmnet - Optus and some others use it. Semi protection of the effected articles would be far more effective.--Peta 10:58, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Block on site won't work since they can just get a new IP, a range block has the potential to disrupt some good users. Semi-protection is ideal for this situation.--Peta 11:07, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    • I hope so - WP:AN/I seem more interested in discussing Tony Sidaway! Anyway I am leaving him to it. I wil be on a wikibreak for a couple of days and will take it to Arbcom then if it stil seems appropriate - I can't see any other useful dispute resolution and a ruling would be helpful. Shades of Internodeuser! I particularly like the conspiracy theories and the fact that the world won't ever know the truth because of my actions! Talking about quick. I'm still working on this thing! Thanks for reminding me, though. There's a good chance I could've missed the categories. Any suggestions? Anyway, I guess this is a good thing. At least someone noticed the article's existence. - Mgm|(talk) 11:39, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Safari park

[edit]

I changed africa-stub back to stub, undoing your June 24 change while doing a re-write. "Safari Parks" don't have much to do with Africa, other than often featuring african animals ... we do have national parks and lots of wildlife. Robert Ullmann 14:32, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you back from your wikibreak yet?

Did you get to check out the GHC on Tuesday?

Do you have time to do a page move for an article I created?

Could you please reply on my talk page?

Appreciate your bit for the Cape Sorell issue, It seems only after saying "go away" to the delete people did I realise that I wanted it as one of three articles as examples of extreme weather on the west coast of tassie, but havent got around to making the art yet! SatuSuro 05:09, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

you're telling me - I am one of them in a different part of the planet over a dud art title! :( SatuSuro
Actually I am finding so little in wikipedia about waverider bouys, and wave monitoring at all, I am thinking of beefing up the details and re-submitting the article at a later date, so please expect a "help please" message from me for support to re-instate! (but only if you think its worth it) SatuSuro 07:24, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response: http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/environmental_management/coast_and_oceans/waves_and_storm_tides/wave_monitoring/waverider_buoys/ is a better link than the current BOM page on it. Basically the BOM and CSIRO have had over 10 years of trying to get a handle on swells off west tassie. I used to live there in the mid 70's, I can understand why! It's wild!

I also have placed my reaction on Chuq's talk page. The problem with inland editors :) from other places, they seem to have limited understanding of the importance of the things. And in my honest opinion I am increasingly in awe of you admin guys who stay in there keeping things going despite everything! . Thanks again for your interest. Oh and if I'm going to get to an article, It will be fun doing a DAB on the word for a start its actually a TM according to the BOM website http://www.bom.gov.au/inside/oeb/networks/marine_obs.shtmlSatuSuro 07:40, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I know you're trying to sound smart in the way you describe why my article was deleted, but I need to know, in basic English, as to why it was deleted and protected. Did I need to further explain the article? Because I can't, seeing as you protected it.--Coh G 07:32, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok

[edit]

I get you, I guess it needs to be worded differently as no one quite understands the article. Now, I can only do that if you could please un-protect the space.Coh G 07:45, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dennis Allen

[edit]

Hi Longhair. Dennis Allen (which you started) was prodded and deleted. I found it yesterday and added references, but thought I'd sleep on it before removing the prod notice. But it actually got deleted before I got back to it today. Could you take a look and tell me if you think it should be undeleted? Cheers, --Commander Keane 08:49, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I fear you misunderstood me, I added references[2]. Anyway, I'll leave it with you, good luck with the move! --Commander Keane 08:27, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About Prod notices: Looks like this was a case where citations were added but the prod notice wasn't removed, and the 5-day deadline was just about to expire. Once a prod notice is placed on an article the deletion happens automatically, regardless of citations added, or changes to the article. There is no review. Anyone may remove a prod notice at any time for any reason (or none at all), so normally you want to do that at the same time you add citations (or even if you're planning to). Fan-1967 13:12, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind. Really meant this message for the Commander. Fan-1967 13:14, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anon from Gundagai

[edit]

Hi - I saw the Gundagai talk page! Thanks for your intervention. He is quite conscious though of avoiding blocks.

The really weird thing about his comments is nobody other than the anon has been publishing anything about indigenous matters that has not been sourced from elsewhere published material!?! ie - there is no orignial research from me or anybody else.

I had lodged an RfA but it got rejected saying "try mediation first". I thought I would start at the beginning of the dispute resolution process with a request for comment that I am drafting now. I'll let you know when it is ready to post. I would rather be doing something else and I doubt that it will help much, but at least it means there would be eventually community endorsement for managing his edits and talk. For the moment though I will try to resist the temptation to respond.--A Y Arktos\talk 22:24, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

      • My blocks are now for a week at a time, not least because he is breaching the blocks themselves as well as his abusive comments and edit summaries.. I have asked for a review at Wikipedia:Requests for investigation - unfortunately dead silence :-( there is a backlog there. However, at least one other person probably looked at it because they joined in the happy revert game. The small satisfaction I get is that sometimes these IPs are reallocated to him so he would have to log in even more times. The issue is of course a brand new editor might want to contribute :-(--A Y Arktos\talk 06:16, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused

[edit]

That wasn't a test I made, that was meant to vandalize the article. Why did you say it was a test?

There we go. Thanks.

Thanks for letting me know my edit worked. I was trying to edit my user talk page, and not the actual wikipedia entry for jimjones. How is it that this can be done to it?~!~~!23:55, 25 July 2006 (UTC)~Љ

Thanks for turning the Oakville Trafalgar High School article into a School Stub.

I don't have time to add details to it (at the moment), so hopefully someone will notice.

Timestamp glitch

[edit]

I don't know why, but your edit to the stub on Franz Carl Weiskopf got a timestamp prior to my even creating it. I'll try incorporating your edit and seeing if that solves the problem. Robert Happelberg 23:01, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My concern is not attribution. My concern was that your edit was not incorporated into the "current version" of the article because it technically took place earlier. But hopefully this was just a one-time glitch. Robert Happelberg 20:26, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your block

[edit]

The username block on "EvilBot" was wholly inappropriate as it was created to be an AWB-assisted bot run by me.
You could have at least waited for me to create a userpage for it describing its use. Try to assume good faith.
Blocking the user also blocked my IP. I'm a legitimate user with many constructive edits and I'm blocked from editing.
I've asked Sceptre to remove both blocks. In the future, a little AGF will go a long way. Thank you. — Nathan (talk) / 23:30, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Swan Island

Hi - I notice you've been doing a lot of work on various articles related to Melbourne and Victoria. I wanted to let you know I've created a new article for Swan Island [[5]], but not being an expert maybe it needs your touch to make it more consistent with other articles. Brenden Abbott page

[edit]

G'day,

I am bloody hopeless, I'm sorry. You have done an excellent job cleaning up the Brenden Abbott page (again) after I finished with it. I am trying to educate myself about Wikipedia and promise to learn nore before fiddling again. Just one thing though - the caption on the new pic has one 't' missing (Abbot). I won't try to fix it or I'll bugger it up again. Do you mind doing it? Thanks. I think you're doing an excellent job on all these Aussie crime pages, by the way. Keep up the good work. regards Dpedley 13:49, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's okay, I fixed it up. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 13:52, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
