ACP Archiving

Sorry man, there is a mis-understanding here. Correct i did "blank" the page, but i actually archived it to archive 2. to find it, go to artice information > peer-review > and then click on "archive 2 - here". Im working on what theyve done, im going to gradually use what theyve said - over the next 4 or so weeks to make the article better. I dont see what im doing wrong - no-one was adding to it in a long time. so i closed it. then i archived it in the peer-review section of the article information which seems plain logical and yea. Correction, due to the new template that theyre rolling into the talk pages, it is now in article milestones, but if you check the history, you will see what i have done above, and that i havent done anything wrong. Question on uploading pictures

I have a picture here of Percy Umfreville Henn (copyright expired) and it's on paper. I want to edit it a bit (e.g. slice off the caption and Library barcode) and then upload it to the Commons (if that's the right place). Can you tell me how I can do all this? Problem User

Hey, im at a loss as to what to do with a problem user: User:Thewinchester - he has remved the JSHAA and PSA templates from the Aquinas College page, which i reverted. He has now been on the JSHAA page and has removed a link to an article which is up for AfD entitled (List of Western Australian JSHAA Member Schools) and placed a link to the category for it, the article hadnt been deleted (nor is it currently deleted). JSHAA Edits

I'm not going to take sides on the issue and play the usual game i've seen on WP. Simply put, it appears that Smbarnzy is making a patent misrepresentation of the actual edits. The issue in question is the removal of a redundant category Category JSHAA that has been adequately replaced and restructured for common sense. He has also demonstrating traits to the point of breaching WP:OWN, particularly by his own admission and diatribe [here. These changes have not been performed lightly, and were done so after being briefed at 2am on Sunday morning about serious issues going on with another young user. I have been working through the lists of changes made by this others and as a result making multiple clean-ups, *fD's where necessary, and other such appropriate changes in a manner consistent with stated WP policy, MOS, etc. I'm not going to disagree with your comments, i'm simply suggesting that you may not have taken all appropriate information into consideration when taking your position, something which commonly happens here on WP and I myself have been guilty of. I've got much better things to do than hold any grudges or shoot off in this space because it's about delivering quality well structured information. thewinchester 12:45, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

I was going along nicely completing transfers from Dryandra to Banksia. Hoped to finish the remaining 15 done tonight, but got only seven done before other imperatives crowded in. Are you the Moondyne who left me a note telling me to stop adding "inappropriate" links to Wiki? The moderator, Dirk Beetstra, said it's okay to add links to the text, especially when they are relevant to the subject. The links I have added were not spam, were not aimed at increasing search engine ratings, are not commercial and are completely relevant to the subject of the article. What's wrong with them? I'm not trying to have a fight with you, but I need to know about all this. I can tell you it was named after George Heathcote, midshipman on board the HMS Success under Captain (later Admiral Sir) James Stirling, and a member of the Swan River expedition of 1827. He gets a passing mention at Peter Belches. Hesperian 04:21, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Can a list be a "non-article? I had assumed that article and talk space were separate, er ... spaces (pages?). Aquinas College, Perth

I don't know what the situation is with this article. The following comment is included in the recent history on the discussion page:

As far as I could establish the edits to promote the article to GA status were made by the article's authors and not by the assessor. The article is also missing the usual good article box with a link to the version of the article which was assessed. It is part of two different Wiki Projects (schools and Australia) and will presumably have to be assessed separately by both projects. Perhaps you should take the matter up with user Thewinchester as it is was his/her comments which led me to believe that the article had not followed the due process. The article is also listed on the Wikiprojects schools page as a good article nominee and it is included in the current list of "collaborations of the week" which is surely unnecessary if it is a good article. It does look as though the promotion to Good Article status is legitimate after all. The authors' self-promoting tactics seem to have caused the confusion. Only about a week ago the article was assessed as B within the school project but the authors tried to change it to an A, which is why I was suspicious in the first place. Assessments within projects are done separately but I don't know what the procedure is for good articles. I've posted a message on Thewinchester's talk page asking for clarification. In the meantime the authors have now reverted to the GA status. Dahliarose 12:24, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Sure, we are called Trinidadians or Tobagonians (depending on where your from). "Trinidadian and Tobagonian" is rarely used - it's clunky. Trinidad and Tobago is often used in an adjectival or semi-adjectival form - "Trinidad and Tobago Cricket team", "Trinidad and Tobago cricketer" is the form I have almost always come across. Schools Portal

My explanation for it, was that it hadnt been changed in months (the portal), so i decided to take it upon myself (being bold) and decided that it needed a change. I added a GA to the portal, aswell as an image which i felt was good (similar to the previous Scotch one they had). I did actually notice that Harro5 is the person who looks after it, and at the time of the change, i checked his contributions log, and he hasnt been active since like January 20 (approx) 07, and as the maintainer, that is a long time, and the article is meant to be changed every month, so i thought why not add one of the newest GA's on schools to the portal to show it off to the community, it may not have been by the book, but i felt that it was the right thing to do in the interests of the community and the schools portal. Because Auroranorth is back with a new sockpuppet. You'll know it by the elaborate manufactured stream of consciousness writing in the edit summaries and user space edits, that takes every possible opportunity to show us all the mental processes of a newby discovering Wikipedia for the first time. Answering a question and answer re catholic officials from a few months ago now - It would appear that I have a hard copy of The Official Directory of the Catholic Chrch in Australia 2006-2007 - I was dissapointed about its lack of historical dimension - close to 640 pages and a v good index - apparently all the same might all be on www.catholicdirectory.com.au - havent compared the two yet - Satu Suro 02:51, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

I see however you have updated some of the stats to 100% complete even though some of the articles are still in stub status and/or don't have a Dictionary of Australia Biography reference. My understanding is that a person's article is "complete" and therefore counted if it was rated "good", meaning that the text from D.A.B. was included as well as a reference to it; do you agree?. It would appear from the above item that you and he are mates. Then you will understand that BlackJack and I are friends and colleagues (in the real world as well as on here) and that I am defending his position just as you are defending that of your friend.

The consensus in the original discussion about the Australian season articles was clearly that the articles should be removed and left as red links on the relevant template until such time (without limit) as someone could add meaningful information to them. This was the point made by Stephen Turner and it encapsulated the consensus of that discussion.

BlackJack agreed with Stephen and decided on returning to the site that he would add the extra information needed to provide meaningful information to the readers. Acting in good faith as always. Your friend on being told that the articels had been recreated performed a knee-jerk reaction and deleted them before giving Jack a chance to explain what he was doing and without informing the cricket project who should have had the final decision about whether Jack has complied with their consensus. It is clear to anyone with any intelligence at all, looking at the articles restored by ALoan, that Jack has complied with the consensus of the previous discussion, especially as he says the articles about the later seasons contain much more information (e.g., more matches, English tours).

I think it is you who has talked about Jack's integrity and credibility on the cricket project page. I think someone who has introduced as much new material as he has, has almost singlehandedly redefined two Wikiprojects as he has, all the time encouraging other editors to contribute, does not need to defend his integrity or his credibility. I don't know what sort of contributions you have made but I doubt if either you or your pal can claim to have done as much for the site as Jack.

On the other hand, your pal has defied the consensus reached in that discussion. Someone acted in good faith to improve those articles and he has attempted to suppress them without informing the cricket project. As I said on his page, he is out of order and should be brought to account.

Unless of course he has the decency and courtesy to restore the articles and ask the cricket project to review them. If he does that and makes a suitable apology to the cricket project, I will withdraw my comments.

Note that I do not ask him to apologise to or even communicate with BlackJack because I do not think Jack should have reacted as he did, althoigh I fully understand his frustration and I agree with him that Wikipedia needs to completely overhaul its administration structure and prevent abuses of admin power such as we have seen in this case.

But, there were no erroneously listed articles. It has been established that the articles should have been deleted as they were then. But the actual consensus was that the redlinks should remain on the template pending development of the articles to an acceptable level. The "new" articles were therefore re-created, not restored, and so they should have been treated in the same way as any other new articles. They should have been left to the cricket project to decide if they are acceptable. Indeed, the cricket project appears to have formed a new consensus that the information provided should be restored but that some of the articles should be combined. No one is saying the information should be deleted.

I still contend that Gnangarra was out of order in summarily deleting these articles without asking the author in advance about his intentions and without informing the cricket project of the situation and registering his concern with them. You can hide behind as many of these ludicrous red tape procedures as you like but it still comes down to common courtesy and you have shown a total lack of that by performing what amounts to a knee jerk reaction. Brian Booth

I removed some some of the specifics of hockey in the 1956 Olympics because it seems that he did not play in any match. The official report at http://www.aafla.org/6oic/OfficialReports/1956/OR1956.pdf has the lineups for all the matches and he doesn't appear in any of them (it is a 33 MB file). He also doesn't appear in the list of 14 given in David Wallechinsky's Complete Book of the Summer Olmpics (I checked the 1996 edition). Tintin 13:01, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Just to clarify, once something is in the public domain, we all own the rights to it. I don't recall cricinfo paying me any money to give up my non-exclusive right to use the image.

Seriously, there is a serious and ongoing problem with libraries, archives, etc, placing false copyright tags on images. I approached the State Library of Western Australia about this a couple of years ago, and they agreed that their copyright tags were generally false, but declined to change their practices. Your best bet is to treat every such claim with utter scorn.

There's nothing inherently wrong with multiple plant species having the same common name, e.g. Swamp Banksia. But in this case, I can find no evidence that E. zopherophloia is commonly named "Powder-barked Wandoo". The Australian plant common name database gives its common name as "Blackbutt Mallee". I suspect a copypaste error. I've made a correction.

This - List of Facilities at Aquinas College, Perth is copied word-for-word from the Aquinas College Student Diary (could be from various year's - probs this years - they all say the same thing about the buildings) - the diary is copyrighted to the college. I think your biogs are great, it was not intended as flattery. Thanks for the help and picking up that legislation issue, I will fix that up. Women were not permitted to sit on the bench and it required legislation to allow her to. Opponents to it did not stand a chance, I almost pity them. It is dificult to get across why she was so important, I might try and get another opinion from someone who has never heard of her. The Reflections book reminded me why I am so fascinated by her. I read it years ago and picked it up again recently; the sketch of an elderly Lady with skirt hiked up around her knees and wading out to confront bulldozers had been rattling around my subconcious. I hope I have done her the same justice she helped bring to so many.

As an aside, I once asked my Fascist(self-described) friend what he thought about women as heads of state, he said:

"Prime Minister! I don't think they should have got the vote!

Thank you for being a member of WikiProject Swimming. For all of you that have helped in our first week, thank you so much. This has been a very hard week for us in the States, with the Virginia Tech event. This project has been a way for me to remove my mind from the terrible event. Thank you for helping out, and improving the project. Please keep the motivation going in the next few weeks, and try to recruit as many swimmers, divers, water dancers and polo players as you can. Be proud of your sport!

I always forget to talk about the things that I am actually doing at the moment!
