I got the logo off of the Sega of Japan website, the other logos are in the Mega Drive article, but not this one.
I plan to add it to the article soon. What do I need to write, and in which section, and could I get an example so I'm sure I do it right? Regarding: Replaceable fair use File

Hi Nick. Thank you for your reply. I'm still getting the hang of making articles so I'm making a few mistakes. I'm sure I'll figure it all out soon.

I am working on making some improvements on this artist's article. I wanted to add images to the page of her artwork. The images are in my textbooks but they have copyrights. How do I show examples of this artists artwork since it is under copyright? Can you walk me through the best way to post images of artwork? I find it very complicated... maybe just due to lack of experience with this.

I feel that it is important for learning purposes, to improve information on well known artists. I will also try to find a fair-use image of the actual artist per your recommendation.

Thank you for your help.

I do believe however that the other work is notable. Regarding: Image on the page Mike Pitt (the congressman and not the football player

I don't know how to tag the image properly. How do I know if something falls under fair-use? The photo was on the government web page so I thought it would be alright. Anyways, this site is really intimidating! Also I was not able to find which 'style' I should use for my references. Is APA okay? I keep meaning to reread the editing guidelines as it's been some time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lifeasaperson (talkcontribs) 22:30, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Regarding the image, could you please link me to the page you copied it from? I'll do some research regarding the copyright status of the image. It would probably not qualify under fair use, since the fair use guidelines generally prohibit using a photo of someone that only serves to show the person under fair-use, since such an image could be replaced by a freely licensed image. Regarding the proper way to use references, take a look at Help:References for details on that. Cheers, NickContact/Contribs 02:48, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2010/02/17/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry6217403.shtml this is the page with the photo of Mike Pitt (the S.C. legislator) --Lifeasaperson (talk) 23:52, 25 February 2010 (UTC) Lifeasaperson, Chris Giofreda, 25 Feb, 2010
It looks like the image actually originated from this page on the South Carolina House of Representatives website. I did a little research into Wikipedia copyright tags and it looks like, while works of the US Federal Government are not subject to copyright, only three states have followed suit and South Carolina is not one of them. Therefore, images copied from their website are considered copyrighted. Additionally, the image probably wouldn't qualify for free use per the reason I've explained before (that it would be considered replaceable since the only reason the image is being used is to show what Mr. Pitts looks like and there is nothing else special about the image). Unfortunately, it looks like that image is going to end up being deleted because it's copyright status makes it unsuitable for Wikipedia. Sorry, NickContact/Contribs 03:52, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Regarding File:Luke n.jpg

I'm a little new to this and I'm not exactly sure how to add my "copyright" to a picture I already own. This is a picture of me. I got it from my own files and in my opinion I think we're being a tad anal.

I tried looking up how to make a copyright tag but this site is not very direct and pretty condeluded. So if you do decide to delete my picture I'm just going to put it back up since I haven't done really anything wrong. Clockwork Angel (talk) 00:02, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. I realize that you created the image yourself, it simply needs a copyright tag added to it. Since YOU created the image, this copyright tag is going to be the license under which YOU want to release the image to others. I'm not being "anal". The bottom line is all of the images on Wikipedia, including ones you create yourself, have to compatible with Wikipedia's content licenses. If you don't mind allowing others to reuse your picture under the terms of a free license (or releasing it into the public domain entirely), simply take your pick of any of the licensing options listed at Wikipedia:TAGS#For image creators and add the tag of your choice to the image description page. For example {{GFDL-self}} will release your image under the GFDL license, whereas {{PD-self}} will release your image into the public domain. Cheers, NickContact/Contribs 01:37, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Okay, so I think I got the right license and put it in the right place, or at least a template shows up on the discusion page of the image. But I still think you're anal (just kidding). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Clockwork Angel (talkcontribs) 05:32, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Well, you were close! Haha. You put the tag in the upload summary, but it had to go in the actual description part of the page. I've fixed it for you and removed the deletion tag, so all is good now. Thanks for taking the time to get the image in compliance. Cheers, NickContact/Contribs 05:47, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

YYYY in Italy articles

I want to ask you this. Since many countries such as England have the same sort of aim, I think that possibly from 1000 - 1800 we should have decades or centuries (i.e. Years of the 1600s in Italy), rather than an individual article. I have made the necessary changes to the article titled Erevanski. Please let me know if there is anything else that needs to be changed in order to avoid a deletion. Dvobgo92 (talk) 23:13, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Dvobgo92, March 24, 2010

Hi there. Thanks for your efforts and your contributions. The sentence that I quoted in my deletion nomination was simply an example of why I felt the article did not meet policy, and was not meant to be construed as the only thing wrong with the page. Pursuant to Wikipedia's notability guidelines for bands and the general notability guideline, the subject of an article must be "notable" in order to have an article in Wikipedia. Notability is usually established by showing that the subject has been talked about in various independent sources (that is, sources other than websites and other publications connected with the subject itself). Since that doesn't seem to be the case for the Erevanski article, I still think it should be deleted. If you disagree, I encourage you to go directly to the deletion discussion page at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Erevanski and make your case for the band's notability. That is the page that the admin will review before deciding whether or not to delete the article in a few days. Cheers, NickContact/Contribs 23:24, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Thank You for your help. I now understand the circumstances of the proposed deletion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dvobgo92 (talkcontribs) 23:29, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Re Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Derek Alfonso

Hi Nick. I've nom'd this page for AfD and see that you concur. I left a notice on the page of the creator User:Theg which I now see appears to be an SiPA (they created also the associated Michael Koby which I nom'd at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Koby‎). Question: does the usual AfD /speedy nom process pages also cover the procedures for nominating user pages too? I'm new at this AfD nom caper, me. Ta and all. Plutonium27 (talk) 23:27, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi there. In short, no. User pages may be tagged for speedy deletion under the "general" criteria at WP:CSD if they are blatant spam, attacks, copyright infringement, etc., but not under any of the "article" criteria. Also, AFD is only for articles. The equivalent of AFD for user pages would be Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion, and user pages that violate the user page guidelines can be nominated for deletion there just like you would nominate an article for AFD, however its important to keep in mind that user pages are usually held to a much lower standard than articles. Unless a clear-cut violation of policy exists, users are usually given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their user page. Also, while it may seem obvious, its important to point out that notability guidelines don't apply to user pages, since a user is welcome to write about themselves (notable or not) on their user page. I hope this answers your question; if not, please feel free to ask me more :). --NickContact/Contribs 23:35, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
Yup - I had sort of guessed this is how it must go down but wasn't sure. Now I know why I can only ever recall seeing these pages in MfD areas before. Thanks for sorting me out. All the Best, Plutonium27 (talk) 23:42, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks in advance. Jim Steele (talk) 00:26, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Not a problem. For your new image (the one of what looks like a graduation ceremony), the first problem that we're going to have to figure out is what the copyright status and source of the image is. It's currently tagged as lacking that information and will be deleted 7 days after it was uploaded if you don't provide that info. Where did you find the image? Did you take it yourself? --NickContact/Contribs 16:34, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi, The image was from [2]

So it belongs to someone else, I pulled it off google images. Jim Steele (talk) 18:35, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, that image is fully copyrighted as specified on that page and would not qualify under fair use as the logo did, so it will have to be deleted. See the image use policy regarding what kinds of images can be used on Wikipedia. --NickContact/Contribs 21:31, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello, Thank you for that information. I have read that fair use policy and I think I understand it better now. I will try again with another picture and hopefully get it right this time. Jim Steele (talk) 14:46, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello there. I apologize if the notice was a bit difficult to understand. Basically, by uploading an image that you created on Wikipedia, you're required to state which free license you are releasing your image under. You cannot upload an image to Wikipedia if you still want to reserve all rights to the image. You may pick one of the tags listed here to place on the image description page. For example, if you want to release your image under the terms of the GFDL, then you would put {{GFDL-self}} on the image page. If you wanted to fully release your image into the public domain (and lose all rights to it), you could use {{PD-self}}. I hope this has helped. Feel free to ask clarifying questions if you have any. Cheers, NickContact/Contribs 03:55, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
