Speedy deletion of Rep. William Adolph
[edit]Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Anonymous101 (talk) 14:05, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Hd111.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Hd111.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}}
(to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

About Wikipedia

Proposed deletion of Brian L. Ellis
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Brian L. Ellis, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. dzhastin (talk) 20:15, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
Some thoughts
[edit]I notice that you have been adding materials regarding the PA House of Representatives, and I thank you! There was some concern that your username of "PAHouseGOP" signaled that you would be pushing a particular point of view, which would conflict with wikipedia's politcy of article neutrality, but your edits so far have been totally neutral and very helpful.
I did notice that you are making some minor "rookie" mistakes in your article creation, and I have cleaned some of them up. If you continue to use wikipedia, you will pick up some coding conventions (including the use of infoboxes and the prose style). However, there are a few things I should warn you about.
Someone already tried to delete your article about Brian Ellis, saying that he was not notable enough to be on wikipedia. Clearly, as an elected politician, he certainly is, but the article must contain some statement of notability. Usually, something like "X is a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives" will suffice. I saved the Ellis article, but I thought you should know this so that people don't keep trying to delete your article.
Here is another thing: I notice that you are uploading some maps of legislative districts. Due to copyright issues, this is a very touchy subject. Generally, you may only upload things that you have created yourself, like a photo of a building or a tree. These images are likely to be deleted very soon, unless we can establish that you work for the PA House Caucus (who would be the owner) and are authorized to release them for use on wikipedia. If you can do this, let me know by leaving a message on my talk page: User_talk:TheZachMorrisExperience and I can walk you through this process. Seriously, we would LOVE to have the ability to show legislative maps (compare the quality of this page Pennsylvania House of Representatives, District 25 with this pagePennsylvania's 18th congressional district). --TheZachMorrisExperience (talk) 16:45, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
- Following up on the previous comments. Couple of things that I think are important. One: Cutting and pasting from the member's website like you did with Dick Stevenson is out. So I am asking you to stop doing this. We are the ones who will ultimately have to clean this up if we want to save these articles. I would like your help in doing that.
- Two: Remember one thing. These articles are not a personal webspace, nor are they owned by the House GOP Caucus. Once the WP page is up here, its fair game. People on the other side of the aisle are here too. Sometimes you are going to find criticism about your people appearing on the pages. If its innuendo, unsourced nonsense, it won't stay long per WP:BLP. If its sourced, legitimate and relevant it likely stays in the article. I have already gone through this with a couple of folks from the House Democratic caucus. (Although we finally chased the Mark B. Cohen fan club.) Getting into content wars here has the potential to make you look pretty dumb. Ask Marina Kats [1]. Montco (talk) 12:16, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Copyright problems
[edit]I have noticed that a number of the articles you have added to Wikipedia copy (in part) the websites of the subjects. This is generally considered a copyright violation when the copy is ver batim. If you wish to add further information to Wikipedia, please make sure to do so in your own words. Copyright problem: Kathy Rapp
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Kathy Rapp, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.reprapp.com/?sectionid=65§iontree=65, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:
- If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Kathy Rapp and send an email with confirmation of permission to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or that the material is released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Kathy Rapp with a link to where we can find that note.
- If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Kathy Rapp.
It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at Talk:Kathy Rapp/Temp. Leave a note at Talk:Kathy Rapp saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:16, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- PAHouseGOP, you need to start taking Wikipedia policies seriously. I went and cleaned up your work on Kathy Rapp. It doesn't make much effort for you to start following wikipedia guidelines. First, you can't use copyrighted materials. Second, if you want to keep uploading the member portraits, you will need to verify that you actually "created this work entirely by myself" and have the authority to license them under GFDL and cc-by-sa. Message me here: User talk:HoboJones, and I can walk you though the steps to do this. If not, some administrator will come along and delete everything you have done. --HoboJones (talk) 21:15, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. You are releasing (assuming you have authority to do so) all of these official House portraits under GFDL and cc-by-sa, which means that anyone (including any political enemies) has the right to use these image in pretty much any way that they want, including in opposition pieces. I strongly suggest that you contact the House Caucus attorney to make sure that you 1) have the authority to do so and 2)that you are not violating caucus policy. These are not free images just because they come from the government. Pennsylvania (unlike the federal government) maintains copyright over all of its works. This is serious. And this is the last time that I will try to help you avoid the possible serious repercussions if you continue. Contact me at User talk:HoboJones if you would like me help.--HoboJones (talk) 16:29, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
House Caucus
[edit]Hello, and thank you for your additions to Wikipedia. Your contributions are very helpful. There are just two things that you should keep in mind. I can help walk you through this process until you get more acquainted with wikipedia.
1) Copying and pasting text from other sources is not allowed. (This was the problem with the Kathy Rapp article). This policy is very similar to the non-plagarism policies at every college and highs school. Basically, you can use the information from anywhere, but you must put it in your own words. This problem is easily fixed.
2) You must be extra careful when uploading images. With some exceptions (and I can explain these if you like), you can only upload images that are licensed under a "free license." Basically, this means that any image you upload must be able to be re-used by anybody for any reason. This is an easy requirement to satisfy when you are uploading a picture that you took yourself.
But the situation with the official house portraits in a little trickier, since they belong to the House Caucus. An extra step must be taken to confirm that the owner of the picture has agreed to license it under one of the "free licenses." This is done by a process called OTRS. Basically, this means that you have to send an email to wikipedia's administrators that confirms that you are releasing the images under one of the two "free licenses." This email is then archived in the wikipedia system as proof that all of the legal requirements have been satisfied. Here is an example of an image that I had to get OTRS confirmation for: commons:Image:Diplodocus_carnegii_statuePittsburgh.jpg.
Here's how you do it: Send an email from your official pahousegop.com email address to "permissions-en@wikimedia.org" with the text from here: User:HoboJones/PAHouseGOP. Then an OTRS administrator will tag these images as being "confirmed."
I know this is a lot of information at once, and it took me a while before I got a handle on it, so I tried to simplify it as much as possible. If you have any other questions, I will be more than happy to help you. We try to collaborate as much as possible here, so keep me in the loop on how this is working. You can contact me on my talk page User talk:HoboJones. Thanks! --HoboJones (talk) 20:14, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Portraits
[edit]I am glad that I was able to help you out. The portraits are still on the wikipedia servers, and it is possible that someone will try to put them back in the profiles. If you like, you can have the images deleted by placing "{{db-author}}" on the image pages. Here is a link with a list of all your images: [2]. Click on the image and then click "edit this page" to access the image information.
If I may make a suggestion, if the caucus decides not to use the portraits, maybe invite the members to supply their own photos for wikipedia. --HoboJones (talk) 16:06, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Blocked; use of account for promotional purposes; impermissible role account
[edit]This kind of activity is considered spamming and is forbidden by Wikipedia policies. In addition, the use of a username like yours violates our username policy.
You may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below or emailing the administrator who blocked you.
Your reason should include your response to this issue and a new username you wish to adopt that does not violate our username policy (specifically, understand that accounts are for individuals, not companies or groups, and that your username should reflect this). Usernames that have already been taken are listed here. MCB (talk) 00:35, 23 October 2008 (UTC)- I have contacted the admin who blocked you and advocated on your behalf. All you probably need to do is change your username, and you'll be unblocked.--HoboJones (talk) 03:53, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

HELP!!
[edit]I was unaware I was violating Wikipedia's username policy. I would like to change my username to "PAHouse", but I am blocked from contacting an administrator to do so, so any help would be much appreciated.
