Riverdance

Hi Pdebee. I'd like to know, what are you sources for the content you added to the "Recordings" section of the Riverdance article? I'm a little confused by the DVD list as "Riverdance: Live in New York" and "Riverdance: The Show 2002" should be "Riverdance: Live From New York City" and "Riverdance: Live From Geneva" respectively, and the New York recording was from 1996 not 2002. By 2002, are you referring to the year the DVD was released? If so, you should be adding references because I can't find sources to back this up. Your list appears to be original research and is generally not acceptable on Wikipedia. Would you care to elaborate for me? Cheers. DaHuzyBru (talk) 05:00, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for your helpful message. You're quite correct: I shouldn't have added some of the DVD releases until I was sure of the sources. What happened was: after adding the section for the CD (linked to the article I had just created for it), I thought it would be helpful to include a subsection for the DVD. Then, after looking at Amazon (mainly), I discovered the different DVD releases and, although I was somewhat confused by all the available releases, decided to list some of them as I found them there. I will work on this more later today but will add a template for now, which I will remove when done. Thank you for calling this out, and please accept my apologies for causing you unnecessary work.

I have now added ref tags to the DVD entries, but only for those DVDs that were not already mentioned in the prose, since the latter are assumed to have been cited already. However, I could easily cite those as well, if required, or for consistency. Please note that I have had to rely on Amazon entries, due to the paucity of secondary sources (press reviews etc.) about these DVD releases. If Amazon is deemed unacceptable, then please remove any of these entries or just let me know and I'll do it myself. Just as an aside, I noticed that several of this article's other citations relied on riverdance.com, which seems like a primary source to me. Also, I thought YouTube was user-generated and therefore unacceptable for sourcing. So, if you wish to clean up those deviations as well, then please feel free to go ahead, as I am not particularly interested in stewarding this article.

Hi Pdebee. I have re-added those DVD titles to the section because I believe they are accurate, but I have moved "The Show" to a VHS section as there are no available DVD copies of that issue. I don't think the number in the parenthesis needs to reflect the actual year of release, because while "Riverdance: A Journey" is available on DVD, it's not clear when it was actually released on that platform – there were no DVDs back in 1994 and the source you cited merely says "see the video". I too have gone through Amazon and E-bay listings of these DVDs and the "Best of Riverdance" and "Riverdance: The Collection" can be backed up by Amazon [1] [2] regarding release dates, but "Riverdance: The Documentary 10 Years" can't i.e. both Amazon and E-bay list no year, making it the only dubious one.

Regarding the references in the article – I was the original editor who expanded the article back in 2015, so I was actually the one who added those references :/ Most of the YouTube links merely back up such performances, while the riverdance.com references were handy when dealing with the show's early timeline – there's nothing specifically wrong with primary sources, and there are a number of independent secondary sources as well. Overall, I appreciate your understanding and willingness to cooperate. I didn't mean to seem over protective of the article, although I do have a particular side interest in Riverdance. Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to apply all these improvements and share the details with me directly via the above post. I am sure your greater knowledge of the subject has been most helpful to my efforts, and I agree with you fully that, together, we have added value to this article for the benefit of our readers. I agree with all the excellent tweaks you've applied, and thank you for restoring my earlier entries and for improving on them. With regards to Riverdance: A Journey, there is a release date of '5th August 1996' in Riverdance 20 Years, 2014 Press Information PDF, but I didn't use that because the other source said '1994'; I am very happy to leave you to decide which date (and citation) to use, although the 1996 date seems stronger to me, on the basis that it comes from the press kit issued by the primary source. Also, a "journey" would have to last some time to warrant its own documentary and, therefore, 1994 seems a bit early in the life of Riverdance. In any case, it is clear that a 1994 recording would have been released on a VHS tape (and not on DVD), but there seems to be no way of knowing for sure, unless one has all of these separate products (cassettes, VHS tapes, CDs and DVDs) on hand. Unfortunately, the book Riverdance: The Phenomenon by Barra O'Cinnéide did not discuss either the music or the recordings in any great detail, which I think was a missed opportunity. Maybe, one day, a better researched book will emerge on that side of the project.

As for my earlier comment on the other references, it's only that I would never use YouTube as a source myself, and would also try very hard never to use primary sources either. In any case, very best wishes of success in all your projects here, and very many thanks once again for your great help.

First of all, please forgive me for delay in acknowledging your message, above. I've been on the Wiki on-and-off during the last two days but wanted to take the right amount of time to review your changes before offering my comments, below.

I can see you've worked on this for quite some time, and also that you looked at other projects for examples on how they did it, judging from your helpful edit summaries. I have now read the latest version (after the updates you applied yesterday) and, personally, I found all the criteria to be clear and very useful, and the formatting looks good also. There was just a little glitch with a missing single quotation mark, which I have now added a few minutes ago. From my perspective, I would say that these criteria are excellent as they are, and will be most helpful to the project; I will contact you again when I next apply them, just in case something else comes to mind.

I was working on 1999 in Latin music and one of the things I've noticed is that Buena Vista Social Club Presents Ibrahim Ferrer was one of the top ten selling Latin albums in the US in that year, but it doesn't have an article. With Buenos Hermanos definitely because it topped the Tropical Albums chart and won both a Grammy Award and a Latin Grammy Award. Dear Erick,
On the album cover, the title is printed in capitals ('BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB PRESENTS'), with the word 'PRESENTS' printed in a much smaller font than the rest. I just checked on the World Circuit website, and found that they spelled the album title with a lower case 'p' for 'presents'.
Would you agree that the article title should do the same: Buena Vista Social Club presents Ibrahim Ferrer?

Thank you for editing waltzes B 21 and B 46 by Chopin . This looks better indeed. But Paderewski could have been more accurate. Kr.Kobylanska is quoting Hoesick , who is saying that both waltzes are from the same source ( in company of 15 other Chopin works ). About waltz B 46 I feel that the Wiki-readers should have a little bit more info ; some publishers do not publish the waltz , and sometimes it is considered doubtful !

So maybe it is good to add an extra note ? The latest mention of the source ( Emily Elsner Album ) was 1932 , while in 1949 mention was made that it was lost(Kobylanska, 1977)

So nowadays a manuscript of this waltz no longer exists  !

However, to satisfy the all-important policy of verifiability, I searched online (by entering "Emilia Elsner album Chopin Krystyna Kobylanska 1977" on Google) and could not find any text that we could use as a source to describe this album or any of its history. However, I did find a brief mention of this in Ateş Orga's book, which also provides some of the details that you required, specifically about the album's destruction during WW2. I have therefore added a new note, as you suggested last week, and I hope it will satisfy your wish to some extent.

In addition, I remain willing to assist you as follows: if you were able to provide the missing details (shown with '?') in the following citation templates ({{cite book}}, plus {{rp|nn}} for the page number of the quoted text), then I would be delighted to add it into the article once you have completed it. Please note that, even if the text is in Polish and there is no translation into English, we could still quote it in Polish, and add a translation in a note; however, I don't speak Polish.
