Howwood confusion

User:Tastyniall was correct to say that Howwood station re-opened in 2001 (12 March to be precise). Since you said in your edit summary that you used this station in 1989, I can only imagine that you're thinking of Milliken Park station, which opened on 15 May 1989. I don't have the "Butt" book, but I guess the 1988 date that you cite refers to How Wood station in Hertfordshire, which opened on 22 October 1988. –Signalhead < T > 15:35, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I hope you've been well. I created this article lately and I wondered if I could prevail upon you to create a map for it. I have lots to add to the article but any other suggestions would be welcome. Best, --John (talk) 01:57, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

I went ahead and made my own. What do you think? --John (talk) 03:04, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Stewart. About this station's original name, my reasons for indicating that it was not originally called "Old Cumnock" is that the 1860 OS map for the area indicates it as merely "Cumnock station". The 1896 map on the other hand refers to it as "Old Cumnock station". I had meant to reference the maps when I made the edit but forgot to do so. Don't know who's right though, Butt or OS? --- Dreamer 84 21:11, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes I should have done. I did the work in the early hours of the morning and it seemed like a good idea at the time. It had to change though as the original article described Bala as the terminus of the Bala Lake Railway when the sources I can find all give it as the old Bala first station / Bala Lake Halt site. The disambiguation page also does a job with five stations on three different sites. Actually I thought of asking your opinion but by then going to bed was more of a priority. Britmax (talk) 10:32, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

A request: RVJ Butt does not have the opening date for this halt. I wondered if any of your sources know when it opened? Britmax (talk) 17:58, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

That's OK, thanks for looking. Britmax (talk) 19:07, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello Stewart. I managed to get there before the track lifting - which surely can't be far off. I was amused to see that the Giffen 'Rail Head' is listed as one of the possible rail development sites in the Ayrshire Structure Plan.Rosser (talk) 13:03, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Geodata for stations

Ah! If you've got the coordinates, that would be much better than my hacked-up conversions. If you have either the easting/northing data (in any format) or latitude/longitude data (in any format), just put it up as a plaintext file, let me know about it on my talk page, and I can generate accurate geotags from that data. -- The Anome (talk) 17:32, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Railways around leven

I have just significantly expanded the proposal of the Leven rail link. I was just wondering whether you had any information on the history of the line to Leven? Simply south (talk) 21:19, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Livingston North latest edit

Hi Any chance you could take another look at my last edit. I altered some of my wording (I originally added the columns about the Station's history). I feel the shorter version is better. What was the reason for reverting? Also, Livingston North was built to serve the New Town, on a new location, so I changed the 1986 date to 'New station opened' from 'reopened' as the latter is technically incorrect. I notice you mention 'dates' in the edit description - could you elaborate? Did I mess something up or remove something in error? Forthbridge (talk) 18:47, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Could you drop me a line regarding the composition of the Station description? I feel it's a bit in need of alteration.Forthbridge (talk) 20:26, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Regarding 'single' line.... could we decide on an absolute for this? My rationale for including Carmondean Junction is the following: a: most people with some knowledge will know that two lines operated independently b: the article refers to the passenger (not freight) service, but c: the term 'singled' gives the incorrect impression that a single only line existed to Bathgate. Could the article/page benefit from a seperate descriptive page detailing the operation between 1986 and 2008?Forthbridge (talk) 23:57, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Single Line (or not)

I'm not questioning the operational aspects, however, the term 'single' seems to be a 'little' too 'final' - may I suggest perhaps altering the sentence [ As the line between Cawburn Junction and Bathgate had been singled, the stations at Livingston North and Uphall only required to have single platforms.] to read something along the lines of 'Livingston North was opened with a single platform, the line at this point having been reduced to one track'? (Im not sure on the reference to Uphall - a seperate issue)

On the subject, does the 'Bathgate Branch' (86 to 08) deserve a quick history? There's mention of reopening but no context as in why it was as single line. Forthbridge (talk) 00:17, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Bathgate Upper

Hi

Ta for the tidy up. Bathgate North Jct is marked on the 1912, 25 inch OS map - it was right at the end of Gardners Lane, on what is now Menzies road. Forthbridge (talk) 23:00, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Is the opening date of 12 November 1849 for Bathgate Upper station correct, or does that date apply only to the original E&BR terminus? –Signalhead < T > 18:11, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Page 29 of Butt gives an opening date of 12 November 1849 (by the E&B, also referencing the E&G), subsequently renamed to Bathgate Upper on 1 August 1865. --Stewart (talk | edits) 18:13, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
for discussion see User talk:Forthbridge#Philpstoun railway station

Sorry about my misguided edit earlier. The reason I did it was that the station was showing up in Category:Railway stations by year of establishment and Category:Railway stations by year of disestablishment, where it really shouldn't. I didn't notice that changing the template to a category removed navigation boxes. There's another station, Aboyne railway station, where the same thing is happening. Would you mind having a look at it and explaining to me just how this template and category interaction stuff works, because I don't have much experience in this area and would like to learn. Cheers, Reyk YO! 21:47, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Bathgate's History

I've made a start on my talk page of some text for the above. Very early as yet, but any comments (unfavourable or otherwise) regarding style and content are welcome. There will probably be too much information to start with, but that's the idea...!Forthbridge (talk) 12:16, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Re:Thanks and puzzled

Thanks for reverting my failed experiment. Work commitments have meant I have not been able to put the time in that it justified.

However I am puzzled why you have added another category to Category:Railway station openings by year navbox templates [5] as the next stage will be to delete all these templates and the category. --Stewart (talk | edits) 20:22, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

I had a mistaken idea about how those templates were intended to be used. If they should be deleted, you can (as the author) mark them to be deleted by adding {{db-author}} to the top of each template/category that needs to go. --Eliyak T·C 20:28, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Slamannan lines/Edinburgh and Bathgate

Hi Thanks for correcting my 'wrong page' edit - I had just discovered it as you had...!

Would there be any chance of a page for the Edinburgh and Bathgate, and associated lines?

Is there any issue with the use of NBR timetable info?

Also, I have added a table to the Slamannan line page. You may want to have a look, if you think it doesn't suit, no problem in deleting it. (I am considering a similar table to describe individual branch lines - what's the view on that?)

Forthbridge (talk) 22:10, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Hiya..

No hurry for anything, but the map diagrams are very handy as well. I'm quite happy to take the details on the E and G page and make a table of it with mileages if you think that's better (I just think it looks better boxed than pure text) - or whatever.
