Hi Trekker. While I appreciate you taking time to discuss the AFD, but you should comment on content. I don't appreciate saying my comment "reeks" of anything. Please don't make comments like that again to me or anyone. Andrzejbanas (talk) 18:00, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As a second heads up, I would refrain from discussing what you perceive as editing behaviours or patterns. I don't think I called for any article like this to be deleted in the past and if you propose why you think the article should be kept for reasons that make it cover notability, that's what the discussion is about. Thank you. Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:12, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Andrzejbanas: It is not forbiden to bring up problematic editing behavior from a nominator when it is relevant to the nomination and then clarify what the issue is when they reply. I may have been out of line using the term "reeks", so for that I am sorry. On an unrelated note, I would also appreciate if next time you make sure to add the new section to the bottom of my talk page. Thank you.★Trekker (talk) 21:28, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Completely fair on the top of the page mishap. I posted this from my phone and didn't realize after it shot to the top of the page. If you want to address behaviour, I'd be specific, but honestly, that's probably a seperate argument for a different form. I'd focus on the article and your honest opinion in why it should stay other than and editor made edits you found problematic. Either way, thank you for the apology. Welcome, welcome, welcome! Your work on LGBT-related articles is very commendable, especially because how little editors are working on that area. Since I couldn't get WP:PetScan to run, unfortunately I couldn't suggest to you any articles right now :(. You can try putting "LGBT" in the categories section, adjust the depth to 7, then go to the templates page and put "Unreferenced" in the "has a template:" box to search for uncited articles though. It's complicated I know :). I search for you some articles later in the day if you want some articles to test out your citation skills. CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 07:03, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The name Coraline is actually one that has been invented twice by fictional writers. One source says the French name, with an een ending, was invented for a character in the opera La Toreador in the 1850s. It was later reinvented by Gaiman based on the misprint of Caroline, with the long i ending. In both conttexts, it is an invented name that meets the category. Page approval

[edit]

Hello. I saw you approved some of my newly created pages about inscriptions. I wanted to ask why some of the inscription pages I made have been approved I made in the last week (Zabad inscription, Ruwafa inscriptions, Yazid inscription) but others which were created even before some of these still have not been approved (Jabal Dabub inscription, Ri al-Zallalah inscription, Jebel Usays inscription, Harran inscription, Hima Paleo-Arabic inscriptions, Dumat al-Jandal inscription)? Pogenplain (talk) 16:47, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Pogenplain:, the reason for this is likely that some of your articles got listed by a bot on a "new pages" notice page that I happen to follow because they contained some key words (probably related to ancient Rome or Greece, since those are the main topics I follow on Wikipedia), it doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the pages or anything like that, all your articles are good as far as I've seen. 🙂★Trekker (talk) 17:02, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @StarTrekker:. If you do not mind I have created two more inscriptions and these are the last inscription pages I am creating for the foreseeable future so I hope you can review these quickly as well so that I do not encounter the same issue. Umm al-Jimal Paleo-Arabic inscription and Umm Burayrah inscription. Pogenplain (talk) 19:26, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I also changed Judaism in pre-Islamic Arabia from a redirect into its own page do you know who I can ask to get it a content assessment rating? Pogenplain (talk) 22:09, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pogenplain: I have no problem with you tagging me to review your articles. Ratings tend to be made by persons who are experienced in quality assessing, something that I'm personally not, ut usually takes at most a couple of weeks for someone to come across a new article and rate it.★Trekker (talk) 15:09, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorting question

[edit]

Just saw this edit, and was curious as to the purpose. Using a space for sorting causes the article to be sorted at the top, but a plus causes it to be sorted under a plus—to no obvious advantage that I can see. However, knowing your usual meticulousness, I thought I'd better ask in case I was missing something. As a rule, I always use a space to have things sort at the top; but perhaps there's a reason for not doing so in this instance. P Aculeius (talk) 01:12, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@P Aculeius: I tend to use + for related articles which are not lists or the main topic. For example in the case of Category:Ancient Roman censors the Roman censor has a space because it's the main topic, and List of censors of the Roman Republic uses a * because it's a list, using the + makes the Fasti Capitolini get listed third as a related but not essential article for the subject. Other symbols can be used for this as well, for example a lot of people use the minus (-) symbol to categorize templates. It's not a hard rule and if you prefer to use a space you are free to change it back.★Trekker (talk) 03:22, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Antón Castillo

[edit]

Hi there StarTrekker, I was just wondering whether you might still consider working on the Antón Castillo draft that you have previously contributed to. I feel that Castillo is an important enough character to have his own character article.

I have attempted to contact the user GhostRiver about her helping to edit the article again, but I have not yet received a response. However, I see no harm in asking you to contribute to the article anyway.

Also, would it be a good idea to place a notification on the Video Games WikiProject to see if other editors could contribute to the article? (Oh, and by the way, thanks for the Thanks! I now feel as if I'm the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.)

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Females/Women at Naming conventions for women in ancient Rome

[edit]

Saw you reverted the IP's change this afternoon. I saw it earlier and thought about the same reason you gave, but it seemed nitpicky to me. Yes, women are girls before they're women, but the article is called "naming conventions for women", not "naming conventions for females". And it's just clunky/florid referring to women and/or girls collectively as "females"; Mark Twain poked fun at James Fenimore Cooper for doing this in the nineteenth century. And of course modern distinctions are irrelevant, or we'd be wading into a minefield with questions as to whether all women and girls are female.

Perhaps this is an argument for rewording the sentences. But I think that the simpler solution is to leave it at "women" instead of trying to be technically correct in every possible sense. Also, I had it in mind that at some point this and the main article on Roman names should be merged at a better title... but that's for another time. Again, I chose not to intervene this morning because I thought the edits were probably an improvement, but I'm also not going to revert your changes if you're not convinced. Just explaining why I think they were probably okay. P Aculeius (talk) 23:07, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I guess that's a fair argument. If someone changes it to women again I wont revert it again.★Trekker (talk) 20:25, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One

[edit]

On 24 April 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Edgar Wright's pitch for an Ant-Man film in 2006 helped to shape the early films of Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

DAB to article :)

[edit]

Hi. You seem to be into technical stuff, which complements me very nicely, putting it delicately towards myself. I have started the Rehovot-in-the-Negev article from a somewhat illogical redirect, created 10 yrs ago and leading to Rehoboth (Bible). Rehovot-in-the-Negev has NO connection to any of the 3 biblical Rehovot/Rehoboth items. So I feel fine about it in terms of logic. Technically... not so much, as I do know that it shouldn't be done: one puts in an application (I'm always forgetting where), they're wasting time, sometimes somebody opposes out of priciple, eventually the DAB is deleted, and then one can create the article using the vacated name. I did pay attention, have changed/updated all relevant wikilinks etc., but I'm not sure if there isn't some hidden reason why this really isn't the kosher way to do it. Is there a reason? Does some inner Wiki programme/code get confused and the whole project implodes because of me taking a shortcut?

Thanks, Arminden (talk) 21:29, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Arminden: As far as I'm aware there is no strict rule against doing what you did (turning a redirect into its own article) and if you have indeed checked all the wikilinks then there shouldn't be a problem.★Trekker (talk) 21:37, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Nigrinian

[edit]

Hello, @StarTrekker— I was just working with the page for this obscure 3rd-century person, and saw that you’d added the line He was the last family member of an emperor to be deified posthumously, a designation I’d previously seen applied to Valerius Romulus. The fact was added at least a year ago, but do you remember from whence it originated? Since we’ve previously interacted, I figured I’d ask you directly rather than going through the article’s talk page. ManuelKomnenos (talk) 13:35, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ManuelKomnenos: Oh darn, I really can't remember, I must have forgotten to add a souce. If it is true that Valerius Romulus was then the line should probably be removed.★Trekker (talk) 13:37, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@StarTrekker Thanks! I’m going to investigate more before altering anything (I need to hunt down the book that told me Romulus was the last), but wanted to start by checking with you. ManuelKomnenos (talk) 13:43, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Late to the table, as I came here to ask about something else, and saw this. I believe there are certain cases where modifying another editor's comments is acceptable: for example, formatting errors causing broken links, re-indenting replies to place them in the proper location/order without materially affecting their contents, moving talk page references, etc. WP:OTHERSCOMMENTS provides further examples, more clearly than I could have. Fixing someone's typo may fall under the heading of "potentially irritating" at the top, but I would have to judge that on a case-by-case basis when it comes to editors who regularly interact with one another. This warning seems a bit strongly worded given the circumstances. Butting out now. P Aculeius (talk) 11:26, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Roman gentes to WikiProject Genealogy?

[edit]

I see you added the WikiProject Genealogy banner at Talk:Hostia gens. I wonder whether it makes sense to include Roman gentes under this heading, as I would not have expected to find them there. There are over a thousand articles on Roman gentes now, and while many of them mention how some members are related to one another, they were not intended to constitute genealogical topics, and most do no more than connect a few immediate family members who are so identified in the inscriptions that attest their existence. The major families sometimes do include tables (mostly against my better judgment, but other editors have added them and I did not want to fight over the subject; I also created or edited a couple), but even so the heading "genealogy" suggests a different scope and purpose than the one intended, and possibly a link with Descent from antiquity, which I regard as a very dubious field that has occasionally come into discussion in Roman articles.

Now, I don't mean to suggest for a minute that genealogy is a dubious field; I'm a genealogist myself, and perhaps there's some intersection between my interest in genealogy and that in Roman gentes and the names they used. But I try to keep these topics strictly separate—as a rule I don't even venture into genealogy on Wikipedia, though I may refer to articles on historic events or persons while working on genealogy. And I think that my concern may be motivated by worries that someone will come along and start tagging Roman gentes for deletion on the grounds that as genealogical articles they would fail general notability guidelines (in fact, even before today I've wondered whether this might happen; CGR currently has some editors who apply policy very strictly and seem to have a narrow view of what should and shouldn't be here.)

Since "Hostia gens" certainly isn't likely to show up in anyone's "descent from antiquity", it seems as though WikiProject Genealogy would apply equally to all other articles on Roman gentes, and that prospect worries me for the above reasons. Is there something I'm not aware of here? Is this a good idea? P Aculeius (talk) 11:44, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your arguments @P Aculeius:. Personally I find gentes to be of prosopographical interest, but I understand your concern over focus and genealogical notability standards. I will probably refrain from adding the project to future articles.★Trekker (talk) 15:23, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Home video line

[edit]

Hey Trekker, I don't disagree that the Universal Monsters is more than a home video line anymore, but it does not mean it isn't one. I feel as if this edit edit, suggests otherwise. I don't really want to debate it, but I don't think this category limits it. Up to you, but I just want to assume this wasn't removed from spite or anything. We should also probably add Category:Image Comics titles as well for the comic books. Thoughts? Andrzejbanas (talk) 00:56, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I find it to be non-defining. While there are several home video lines (some of which might deserve articles of their own considering that they have won awards) I don't think the concept as a whole can be considered a home video line, it's simply to narrow. For the same reason I don't agree with adding any comics categories to the article either, such categories belong either on articles for the comics or on redirects if the series are not notable enough for their own articles. It is absolutely not a mater of spite, I hold no resentment towards you at all! I very much admire an appreciate a lot of work you have done on horror articles on Wikipedia. (I just think you have an odd problem with this specific subject).★Trekker (talk) 12:07, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good points.I think Universal Monsters is probably a bigger concept than home videos or comics as the article goes into that now. my heart is more interested in content than esoteric categorization at the moment. Thanks for the kind words too. I've been having a lot of self-doubts about my actions or inaction as if late so it's really good to hear something not entirely negative. Mother of Nymphidia?

[edit]

While checking the sources for Nymphidia, I looked for epigraphy before finding the Plutarch reference in PIR, and found this sepulchral inscription from Tarraco in Hispania Citerior: "D(is) M(anibus) / Nymphidiae / Callistus / contub(ernali) aman/tissimae de se me/ritae fecit". It's undated, but the juxtaposition of "Nymphidia" and "Callistus" seems unlikely to be a coincidence. Perhaps it accounts for the confusion about how they were connected.

But assuming that Plutarch is right, and that Callistus' daughter was named "Nymphidia", might this be her mother, buried in Spain? Of course what you or I think is irrelevant in itself, but if you've been working on these persons or their family, perhaps one of your sources was aware of this inscription. It would certainly be relevant to the "origins" section if a scholarly source is even willing to speculate on it, though without one I doubt the wisdom of mentioning it, as tempting as it seems to draw such a connection. P Aculeius (talk) 20:53, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is amazing @P Aculeius:! I never cease to be impressed by your ability to find and navigate epigraphs! And I'm inclined to agree, I think it's very plausible that this is indeed Nymphidia ("the Elder") the mother of Nymphidia the mother of Gaius Nymphidius Sabinus. I tried googling around to find any mention of it in literature but it doesn't seem like any reliable source has made the connection. Too bad.★Trekker (talk) 23:01, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's mainly a matter of knowing how to enter the right stems in the search window of the Clauss–Slaby Datenbank, then narrow down the results using the browser's search window. In this case, I searched for "Nymphidi" knowing that that would pick up any inscriptions that were known for anyone in this gens; it would have been harder with a much more common name, since fifty-odd inscriptions came up. Then I searched the results for "Callist", and spotted this one right away.
My theory was that the relationship was established by epigraphy, which would be cited in PIR, but I thought I'd check the C–S Datenbank first since countless inscriptions have been uncovered or re-evaluated since PIR was published. But since the inscription didn't support the original text, I double-checked PIR to see what it was based on, and found the citation to Plutarch (not sure why I didn't cite that to begin with, but it was cited in the following entry). I don't know if the original entry was wrong because the relationship was misstated in my source, or if I saw the inscription and had a mental slip with "contubernalis". Probably the former, but I didn't try to track down every possible explanation.
Thank you for keeping an eye on Roman gentes, and correcting mistakes when you find them! P Aculeius (talk) 23:49, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

One line graffiti articles

[edit]

Hello. I saw you removing my proposal for deletion on some one-liner articles like Graffiti in Boston, saying that the article being short is not a reason for deletion. But the problem is also notability - by this measure, every city in the world could have a similar article, because every city has at least a few news articles discussing graffiti. -- NotCharizard 🗨 10:45, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Notcharizard: I agree that could be somewhat problematic, but I would regard it as a larger issue of Wikipedia in general, by our current GNG one could argue that every city should have an article like that, similar to how there are dozens of article like marriage in Spain (marriage in location foo) that consist of a broad topic and a location. Maybe a solution could be to merge the small articles into a larger one like Art in Boston.★Trekker (talk) 11:04, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is graffiti in the United States which is a nice article I'd be happy to try and add in some state sections that the smaller city articles could be merged into (I'm not from the USA so would need to do some background research first). I've genuinely tried to do some research into graffiti in those towns as graffiti a topic I'm interested in, but it's difficult to find anything to build an article on that's not generic. -- NotCharizard 🗨 11:11, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Notcharizard: It's a decent idea, but one might argue that graffiti in the United States is almost too broad to include all the information on each city, but on the other hand if all the information is very generic as you say, a lot of it might be able to be condensed into the US article. A couple of merge discussions (or a centralised on on the US article talk page) might be best, in that way the original creator might want to explain if they have a plan to expand these articles or if a merge is for the best.★Trekker (talk) 14:06, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense - thank you for the advice, and thank you for explaining so clearly and kindly! It is very appreciated. -- NotCharizard 🗨 14:24, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Stu Hart vs Bengal Tiger.jpg tagged for speedy deletion

[edit]

I see you're currently active on the project, so as a courtesy, I'm letting you know about a non-free file you uploaded. Non-free files are supposed to be subject to strict scrutiny. It's obvious that the editors who specialize in that area are derelict in their duty, however. For a file of this type, the standard has been to discourage including this content simply to pretty up an article, that the existence of sourced critical commentary is necessary to accompany the image. I went through as many links as I could find on the relevant articles and only found mere mentions in blog posts. If you know of better sources, feel free to add them before the file is deleted. Thank you for your attention in this matter. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 19:01, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:Wrestler Stu Hart wearing an amateur wrestling championship belt, sometime between 1933 and 1936.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Wrestler Stu Hart wearing an amateur wrestling championship belt, sometime between 1933 and 1936.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.

Merger

[edit]

I’m proposing the probably Un-controversial merger of Marital breakdown into Irreconcilable differences. What do you think? Bearian (talk) 20:22, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bearian: I'm not sure. I'm not too familiar with the two terms enough to decide if they are identical concepts, it seems to me that the second is more specific while the former can describe a lot of situations, even once that don't result in legal divorce.★Trekker (talk) 22:50, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
