First off, I apologize for the spam. You are receiving this message because you have indicated that you are in Southern California or interested in Southern California topics (either via category or WikiProject).

I would like to invite you to the Los Angeles edition of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art, a photography scavenger hunt to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. All photos are intended for use in Wikipedia articles or on Wikimedia Commons. There will be a prize available for the person who gets the most photos on the list.

If you don't like art, why not come just to meet your fellow Wikipedians. Apparently, we haven't had a meetup in this area since June 2006!

If you are interested in attending, please add your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art#Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Please make a note if you are traveling to the area (train or plane) and need transportation, which can probably be arranged via carpool, but we need time to coordinate. Lodging is as of right now out of scope, but we could discuss that if enough people are interested.

Thank you and I hope to see you there! howcheng {chat} 00:20, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Ravnossontzvifinkel.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 23:43, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NowCommons: File:Ravnossontzvifinkel.JPG

[edit]

File:Ravnossontzvifinkel.JPG is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Ravnossontzvifinkel.JPG. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:Ravnossontzvifinkel.JPG]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 16:47, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Chaim Aryeh Pam requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Various points

[edit]

Thanks for your message. I haven't had talk page activity in a while :-)

I merged the article you started, U-Ba Le-Tzion, into Uva Letzion, which was created much earlier but contained much less info. The latter term is definitely the more commonly used, not to mention more grammatically correct (beged kefet after vav conjunction). (Knowing you, you probably knew the article existed, but opted to create a new one with a strange spelling to add it to your "List of articles I created" on your user page! Only kidding...)

And now for some Haiku on the topic of your comments...

Pulling out his key,
To the shiur room door he walks,
And opens the door.

Cheers and see you soon (probably before you read this)! Keyed In (talk) 16:32, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Rachack! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 587 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Rabbinic Kohanim

[edit]

Dear Rachack, I'm still relatively new, and tried to find the place where you posted the reason you nominated the category, "rabbinic kohanim" for deletion, and listed your reason, but couldn't find it. My comment is that if there is a category for "rabbinic levites," it does not make sense NOT to have a similar category for "rabbinic kohanim," since they are similar sub-categories of the larger categories, kohanim and levites. I think it is useful to have both. Floridarabbi (talk) 00:39, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, I forgot to post my reason. The reason is because it is an aribitrary form of categorizing because the fact that one is a Kohen or Levi has nothing to do with the fact that he is a Rabbi. It would be like making a catagory for Rabbis with white beards and Rabbis with black beards. So, I would feel that the Rabbinic Levites catagory should also be deleted. --רח"ק | Talk | Contribs 03:57, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, again, Rachack! I disagree (although not vehemently!). :) As you know, rabbis who are Kohanim have certain rights and restrictions that those who are not do not have -- but I guess my main point would be that this is not really as much a category of rabbis as it is a sub-category of Kohanim. If one wanted to study Kohanim in today's world, I think it would be interesting to learn which of them have become rabbis, especially since one of the responsibilities of the Kohen, according to the Bible, was to be a teacher: the person who taught what was pure vs impure, and by extension, what was right vs wrong. By the way, if it did not end up being a teeny-weeny category, it might be interesting to have one for rabbis who are chaplains, since one function of the kohen in the Bible was to go out to war with the Israelite soldiers, a role that was the precursor of the modern chaplain in some ways. Whether a rabbi has a white beard or black beard would not affect the rabbi's actions, but being a kohen would, from not being able to enter a cemetery to being able to duchen -- and be "in line" for the role of High Priest should, as some believe, the time returns when the Temple is rebuilt. What do you think about my thoughts? Floridarabbi (talk) 12:47, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

good point floridarabbi, the torah clearly makes that connection between being a kohen and being a מורה הוראה=rabbi, i fail to see the reason why this should be questioned for deletion..--Marecheth Ho'eElohuth (talk) 20:34, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Rav zilbershtien.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Rav zilbershtien.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 13:53, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Gershon Weisenfeld requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Help with Meshulam Dovid Soloveitchik article

Help with Meshulam Dovid Soloveitchik article Hi Rachack: Could you please help out with the following request that I received, thanks. IZAK (talk) 08:33, 27 January 2011 (UTC):[reply]

"Meshulam Dovid Soloveitchik: Howdy. I've come across and appreciated your work on rabbinical biographies before, and in my usual process of trying to add sources to unreferenced biographies of living people I came across this article. I've been having some trouble finding reliable, secondary sources to verify/establish notability, although it sure looks like he would be independently notable with a bit of sourcing. I had been considering replacing the article with a redirect to Brisk_tradition_and_Soloveitchik_dynasty#Rabbi_Meshulam_Dovid_Soloveitchik, but when I noticed you'd been the original author, I figured I'd ask you if you could suggest/add something you consider appropriate and reliable first, so, any suggestions? References absolutely need not be in English, but I'm personally limited to reading English myself. Thanks in advance, --je deckertalk 20:41, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm making more progress after recognizing an alternate spelling, so feel free to pass on this if you wish, although sourcing improvements are always welcome. All the best, --je deckertalk 00:42, 27 January 2011 (UTC)"[reply]
