Grove Primary School

Can you please explain what is notable about Grove Primary School, Frimley? Schools in the primary/elementary sectors need to have quite a lot of notability before they warrant their own pge. Secondaries and High Schools are fine. Jimbo has said they can page an article without problems. But not primaries. Now if there is something particularly notable and well sourcedd about the Grove, then please feel free to add it, with its sources. But I don't think there is. And pls do not remove templates you don't like with an edit summary of remove unexplained tag. Its rather rude. No one is required to explain it to you. You can go and make your own enquiries. The tag has been in place since October 2009, plenty of time for concerned parties to do something about it. No one has. And thats because there is nothing to be done. It just doesn't satisfy notability criteria. And the reason there was no information transferred to the Frimley article at the time of the merge, is that there was nothing to transfer. Most of the article is unencyclopaedic and unreferenced, and of the bits that are referenced (location, local children, number on roll) location is inherent in the Frimley article and local children is not notable in the context of the Frimley article. What would be encyclopaedic would be if most of the children travelled 10 miles to attend the school. Local primaries cater for local children. Its not notable to restate that. That leaves the number on roll. If you think that it would be useful to have that info in the Frimley article, then by all means feel free to add it, but it would probably need the figures for all the Frimley schools to add proper context. That might be a useful addition. Fmph (talk) 08:13, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

And I see you've made similar edits to Guildford Grove School, Holy Trinity Junior School, Guildford, Lanesborough School, Rydes Hill Preparatory School, Holy Trinity Junior School, Guildford and Boxgrove Primary School - all of which have been templated for merge for years, and none of which have anything notable about them. Removing {{advert}} templates could be considered as vandalism by many, especially where all those articles still read as adverts. Fmph (talk) 08:34, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
As there are many primary school articles for schools all over the world, consensus would seem to suggest that they are notable enough to have their own pages, especially as many do have appropriate references available, but which have just not been referenced yet. I also fail to see what makes a secondary school more notable than a primary school - they both serve the same purpose (to educate children), they are often similar in size and they are also covered by reliable sources. You mention that the distance people travel to a school determines its notability, but how can you use this figure to discriminate between the two without carrying out original research? If Jimbo has said that the encyclopaedia should not contain primary school articles, then very well, you seem to be more knowledgeable on the subject, but it would have been nice to see this rationale before the 'merges' were carried out rather than providing no explanation for why they were done. To a point, I do understand your reasoning behind the merges now that you have explained them, but in addition to the merge templates, rationale should have been provided on the talk pages as otherwise there is no apparent reason for the merge to take place. Regarding advert templates, their removal would not be considered vandalism if there is no more advert-like material within the articles, and per WP:ADVERT, I don't believe there is. Raywil (talk) 13:58, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
Actually, if there were consensus for that, there would be far more primary school articles than there are. Have a look at List of schools in Surrey for instance. All the secondary schools have articles (just!) but just about none of the primaries do. Why is that? And the list of primaries is probably only half complete. If you really want me to waste everyone's time, I'll put all the articles in question up for WP:AFD and we can see what will happen. Either they will be deleted, or more likely, they will be merged into the Guildford, Frimley and Woking articles. Either way, you, me, and everyone else who contributes to the discussions will be wasting their time. Have you actually read the guidelines?
If there is some information you feel is encyclopaedic and therefore should be added to the locality articles then by all means highlight it and I'll even help you move it. But I haven't seen anything in those articles that is referenced and worthy of keeping, IMHO. Fmph (talk) 21:20, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
