Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome.

Excellent contribution[edit]

As a longtime editor of the creation-evolution controversy I'd like to thank you for your contribution to that article. It was sorely needed. Joshuaschroeder 00:57, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Jerry Nelson (astronomer)[edit]

Hi, your article qualifies for a WP:DYK. Would you like to submit one or do you want me to do it for you? You will still get credit if I submit for you. Cheers and looking forward to your reply, Bejinhan talks 11:07, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the edits. They look good. I also removed the birth day/month since that came from the blacklisted source.
Thanks also for the DYK suggestion. I don't know anything about that process. I'd appreciate it if you would submit it.--RichardMathews (talk) 22:22, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
You're welcome. I've added the DYK submission here. Feel free to take a look at it. Bejinhan talks 03:27, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:Jerry Earl Nelson.jpg[edit]

Copyright-problem.svg

Thank you for uploading File:Jerry Earl Nelson.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:59, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Jerry Earl Nelson.jpg[edit]

Copyright-problem.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Jerry Earl Nelson.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:26, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Jerry Nelson[edit]

Thanks for providing categorizations of the Jerry Nelson and SSP articles.

The guidelines for importance ratings say that High includes "All astronomers who won major prizes or awards besides the Nobel Prize." Since Nelson won the Kavli prize for astrophysics, doesn't that put him in this category? The Kavli has been called the "New Nobel" and the "Next Nobel" (though it has a bit of a different focus). The Kavli certainly conveys considerable prestige and fortune (a million dollars). What do the guidelines mean by "major prize" if not the Kavli?

Well, for major prize I usually think in terms of the Nobel or the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society. It looks like the Kavli has only recently been founded and I'm still unclear about the level of prestige it denotes. But fine, it can be made a high. That'll put him in the same group as Nicolaus Copernicus, John Herschel, Fred Hoyle and Johannes Kepler. :-)

I also think the Nelson article deserves better than a Start rating. It is certainly well sourced and verifiable, and it contains a decent amount of information on Nelson's life and work. It earned a DYK on the Wikipedia front page. Other available biographies have no more information about him. A biography of a living person cannot delve too deep into private life, and it would not be appropriate to do original research into his life. I think at least a B Class would be reasonable. If there is anything keeping it from going all the way to GA, I'd like to know what that is in order to address the problems. --RichardMathews (talk) 22:35, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

It just looked like a start to me. The citations are unformatted and the article is fairly brief. For some sample B articles on astronomers, see John Couch Adams, George Biddell Airy and Fred Hoyle.
If you feel like I have rated you unjustly, I suggest asking at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Astronomy for another editor to review the ratings. Thank you.—RJH (talk) 22:58, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Scott Pace, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page National Research Council (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Replaceable fair use File:Jerry Earl Nelson.jpg[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

Thanks for uploading File:Jerry Earl Nelson.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 01:19, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Climate Hawks Vote[edit]

Just accepted this submission. From the talkpage it appears you have a conflict of interest, thank you for declaring it. The relevant guidelines are at WP:COI, they discourage editors from directly editing the article, and encourage instead making suggestions at the article talkpage. If you have any questions, feel free to reply here, I have your talkpage on my watchlist. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:17, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, Joseph. It is because I am aware of WP:COI that I took the precaution of submitting this through AfC rather than just creating it myself. It's good to have an extra pair of eyes to make sure I am treating the subject fairly.
I do feel that this should be well above Start-Class. It thoroughly covers all of the material available in all reliable sources. I think I write pretty well. This could be B-Class, and I could see it not taking much to take this to GA. I have submitted to Project U.S. for assessment.
I am also interested in taking this to DYK.RichardMathews (talk) 16:39, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
