Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Rileypk97. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. – Thjarkur (talk) 14:11, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:MidwayUSA Foundation
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:MidwayUSA Foundation, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
- It appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement of https://www.midwayusafoundation.org/transparency/. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. creffett (talk) 00:20, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

[edit] Draft:MidwayUSA Foundation has been deleted
Hello, Rileypk97. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia.
I'm sorry, but Draft:MidwayUSA Foundation has been deleted as meeting WP:CSD#G11. "This applies to pages that are exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to conform with Wikipedia:NOTFORPROMOTION." These must be rewritten from scratch from "reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject." See WP:RS.
Wikipedia:Identifying blatant advertising#Typical signs of blatant advertising contains information about content to avoid. For more information on content that may be perceived as promotional, click User:Deepfriedokra/promo. These are just rough guides. Pages can avoid all those pitfalls and still be glaringly obvious ad copy. Sometimes pages meeting WP:CSD#G11 give the appearance of an editor violating Wikipedia:Conflict of interest or WP:PAID. Please read and heed them if they apply to you. Please read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations.
There is a very common mistake of assuming that the prohibition against promotional editing applies only to promotion for commercial gain, but that is not so. Sometimes creators of promotional content are bewildered that it is considered such. If one has been trained to write or spent some time writing corporate documents or mission/vision statements or anything similar, they may simply be blind to the promotionality. It can be hard to unlearn.
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Please see Wikipedia:Citing sources . Template:cite has templates you can use in citing your sources. Place the template {{references}} at the bottom of the page, and references cited in the text will appear there.
The new user tutorial can help you avoid future problems. -- Deepfriedokra 00:33, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
You still have not responded or taken action to the inquiry regarding your appearance as an undisclosed paid editor. If you make any additional edits without complying you may be blocked from editing. Per Deepfriedokra's previous notice please disclose your relationship with the MidwayUSA Foundation

- To: GPL93 and Deepfriedokra My affiliation with MidwayUSA Foundation is that I'm a parent of a kid that is on a shooting team that the foundation has helped in the past i reloaded the page using only facts this time from other sites and professional articles, instead of their own site i am a rookie to wiki so i didn't know how to write my first article i believe my second is good however because its simple and only states facts leaving out opinion-based writing. I thought my first draft was okay because i got it from their site, i know now that it's not because of the bias the writers of their site my have. I am not a supporter of the foundation i just tried to think of how to start my wiki experience and thought this would be a good start, i plan to write more articles on foundations and charities because i believe they deserve more credit. Thanks, Rileypk97 (talk) 19:06, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
- User:Deepfriedokra do you think that you could check out the updated version of the article? The first time I posted it I had feedback very quickly about it and now it's been a month since I published it as a draft. draft:MidwayUSA Foundation. Thanks and if there's a formal process I have to go through to wait I'm okay with that I was just making sure the article was in a queue of some sort.

Theroadislong So can you help guide me on how I can make this article wiki appropriate? I have been to multiple wiki pages for nonprofits and charities and I see nothing but links from their website, which is what I did first but a reviewer said it was incorrect. my example is st Jude children's research hospital they have a ton of references from their website which I thought shouldn't be aloud but yet they are one of the most notable nonprofits in the USA. Do I use secondary sources and just put it more into my own words rather than using the text displayed? because in this article i used only secondary sources of the organization. I just need more information than, "it sounds like promoting" "you are using prepared language by the organization" when they are just facts not promotion (i've seen worse on other pages ie St Jude) and the so-called prepared language is coming from completely different entities and some are even publications. (ie columbianmissourian.com)
