Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!

Second Amendment olive branch

I want to thank you for your olive branch an extend one of my own. I grew (OK...drew) this olive branch myself. ;-) I hope we can work together to find common ground with as many editors as possible to improve the lead and find text that everyone can live with!--Mark Miller (talk) 01:46, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Tim Weed banjo

I mixed sound for Tim Weed last night and I thought hey, the guy should have a Wikipedia page. I found very little to base such a biography on and I wondered if you had any better sources, maybe some banjo journals I don't know about. There's a Marin Independent Journal article by their in-house music critic, Paul Liberatore: "Lib at Large: West Marin's Tim Weed celebrates his 'Soul House'". However, the notability guideline needs more than this. Binksternet (talk) 03:32, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

It's probably worth asking him directly for a list of articles that he knows of. From there we can build an article. That's what I'm doing with Buddy Wachter. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 17:33, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
Good idea. I'll chase that down. Binksternet (talk) 17:45, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
Mr. Weed says look at this cover story: Tim Weed: Interview by Mike Kropp. Pretty good coverage. Binksternet (talk) 03:26, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
That looks good, ask him for his basic info (birthdate, place, etc.) for the infobox and see if he's willing to let us have a photo to upload to Commons. Later today I'll go find the musician article template and setup a framework in my Sandbox. Sound good? --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... Your Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode moves

Hello, Scalhotrod. I noticed your moves on these matters yesterday (or the night before yesterday). Because I was busy with other things, I decided to hold off on approaching you about it. I don't see where Wikipedia:Disambiguation allows for the type of moves you did, even if you consider the episode titles ambiguous without the parenthetical "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." It's not standard Wikipedia practice to disambiguate in such a way. The standard practice in this case is that an article should only be disambiguated if there is a Wikipedia article with the same title; perhaps that is why some of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode articles were already disambiguated. Either that, or they are wrongly disambiguated. I'm thinking that the ones you disambiguated should not be disambiguated because there are no other Wikipedia articles with those titles. I understand that you disambiguated them for consistency, but I don't think that is a good approach; it simply unnecessarily makes the episode title longer. An experienced Wikipedia editor who can help with this matter is Zythe, who has been involved in a lot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Wikipedia editing. Flyer22 (talk) 17:15, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Flyer, thanks for taking the time to write. I'm not sure what you are referring to regarding the DISAM policy, I simply changed some article names, but here's my take on the moves. Some of the articles had titles that were simply the episode name and others (more than the former category) had titles that were the episode name followed by "(Buffy, the Vampire Slayer)". As I ran across them, for consistency sake, I moved them to articles with names consistent with the rest of the series articles. That was it, no other intention or plan involved.
I consider what I did to be a house keeping task and a trivial one at that. In fact, I consider it so trivial that this is last time I'm going to comment on it. I don't care enough about the articles in question to devote any additional time discussing the matter. I did not save a single article into my Watch List so if you revert anything, not only will I not care, I won't know either. Best regards, --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 21:54, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Disambiguation is a guideline, not a policy. Since you don't understand what I mean with regard to it in this case (I don't understand what you mean by "more than the former category"), and have basically stated that you don't care enough about this matter (not that I care much about it either, but I did care enough to point out what is standard practice with regard to Wikipedia naming conventions), and since Zythe has decided not to weigh in on it, I won't elaborate on why the moves are not good practice. But, as is clear above, I did not imply any intention with regard to your moving these articles other than for consistency. Flyer22 (talk) 00:38, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
