Mimosa animation

Is your mimosa animation in slow motion or normal speed? The plant appears to react much more slowly than I am used to seeing. Perhaps Indian mimosa varieties are slower? Please let me know. — O'Dea (talk) 06:05, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

As shown in gif image, i touched only one leaflet of the leaf. If I touch the entire leaf, it will close faster as other mimosa.

Ireland placebox - what to do next

As the deletion proposal has passd, I think we should decide what to do next, so I'v startd a discussion here. ~Asarlaí 17:39, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Please read my comment on the talk page. I changed the statement with "New York City-born", which is both less confusing and more accurate. Thank you. olivier (talk) 11:13, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

I replied again. Why are you stressing the American citizenship. What about being also French born and having "American and French born"? olivier (talk) 11:30, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
"What about being also French born?" She was not born in France; she was born in NYC. — O'Dea (talk) 11:35, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
French (in this case) = "French citizen", not "born in France". At the same time, many people born in France are not French. There are 2 definitions of citizenship and place of birth put together here, which generates confusion. I am not trying to make a point, just avoid confusion for a reader. olivier (talk) 11:44, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
Let us continue all of this conversation at Talk:Anne Sinclair, please. It is not necessary to let me know on this page if you add comments there: I am watching the page. Thank you. — O'Dea (talk) 12:49, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Montpelier Hill

Why the revision? South Dublin is more accurate than Dublin in general. And piping of the RoI is the agreed usage. Laurel Lodged (talk) 13:20, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

We hashed this out at length last year. I have no idea what piping you're talking about. I didn't pipe. — O'Dea (talk) 13:22, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
There was a lot of loose talk. I don't recall a consensus for County Dublin. Laurel Lodged (talk) 21:38, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Shook and Shakes

The reason for the change is that it quotes exactly the phrase used in the Irish Independent, link given: ........shakes her hand !!!, so why not leave it that way? The phrase is both past and present, and sounds and reads better (shook reads odd). Suggest you revert to shakes again since other papers also state "Mayor shakes hands with the Queen". Have they all got it wrong? Greets Osioni (talk) 09:54, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Replied on your talk page. — O'Dea (talk) 18:36, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Census of Ireland 2011

Hello! Your submission of Census of Ireland 2011 at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Binksternet (talk) 01:40, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

More of a response at T:TDYK. Perhaps a new hook? Binksternet (talk) 04:03, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

For reference

I am here to compliment you on your writing. The recent post regarding the name of Ireland is an example. In regard to that, I want to leave you with a link to an exchange of thoughts which points out the weaknesses in the counter arguments to that simplest of facts, the constitutional name. See User_talk:Jamesinderbyshire/Archive_1#Ireland; there you will find the essential falsehood of a perceived need to settle ambiguity questions is eventually laid bare. The "real" reason? "The country that is called Ireland can not claim ownership over the islands history." To paraphrase, 'the people who are now in charge are illegitimate and have appropriated the name'. The part regarding the number of votes is farce, but to understand where the 'logic' comes from it should be read. The thread is many, many paragraphs long, but worth looking at. I think you will gain additional insight from reading that discussion, so am passing it on to you. Once again thank you – Sswonk (talk) 13:32, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Kevin O Sullivan

I hate to come across as a nitpicker, but should Kevin O' Sullivan of the Irish Times be better described as a "Newspaper Editor" rather than a "Journalist".

By the way, I want to award you the Irish National Barnstar of National Merit for all your hard work but you seem to want to keep your user page blank. Can I have your permission to put this barnstar there?

Best wishes,

Glic16 (talk) 18:54, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

The function of the word journalist in the title in this case is disambiguation rather than definition, which is done clearly in the article. I am always keen to create article names as succinctly as possible; it is a question of style (elegance is economy) and because article names are also file names. Many journalists who become editors revert to journalism upon retirement from the editorship: Fergus Pyle and Andrew Neil come to mind. O'Sullivan is a journalist who is an editor in particular, so both titles apply and I was happy to opt for the simplest one — I am not trying to deny him his gong.
Speaking of gongs, thank you for the proposed merit award. "Of course, Wikipædia is a joint work and I could not have done it without collaboration with others, too numerous to mention, but they know who they are: this award is theirs, too. I want to send a shout-out to my Higher Power, and to Auntie Trixie." ;)   — O'Dea (talk) 01:41, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem with the graphic you added. Can you check it? Thanks. Hyper3 (talk) 22:08, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

You have not described the problem and I cannot identify one either within the article or in Wikicommons. Please be specific. Thank you. — O'Dea (talk) 22:10, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
The graphic doesn't appear. There is only a question mark... Hyper3 (talk) 22:47, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
That is strange: I see it without a problem. Have you tried refreshing your browser to reload the article? And is your viewing problem within the article, or at Wikicommons? — O'Dea (talk) 22:56, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
I've looked several times. And it isn't showing on the page, or at Wikicommons. Sigh. I'll look again tomorrow and let you know. Hyper3 (talk) 23:06, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
It is showing up on my iPhone. So its me, not you. Sorry. I think it might be my anti-pornography software acting up! Hyper3 (talk) 23:06, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
I've heard porn filtering software is awfully priggish. It can hoist its skirts and flee if it comes within firing distance of the child-friendly word "breast". "Its me, not you." You sound like you've practiced that line before, you cad. So...you can view pornography on your telephone, eh? I won't tell anyone. — O'Dea (talk) 23:10, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes, the wikipedia app gets round any filtering you can do on the iphone. I'm glad my secret is safe with you by the way. Send me pictures of all your salacious buttons. 07:15, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Laura Ashley protest pictures

I thought protest was fairly self explanatory from their posters. Would love to put in more context, details of outcome etc, but I don't have the info. I was just walking up Grafton Street and saw the protest. Ardfern (talk) 14:11, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Minor edit

Hi. Do you have some setting in your preferences that causes you to mark every edit as a minor edit? If so, could I ask you to switch it off, please? Minor edit means things like correcting typos, punctuation etc. If you make any substantive change it's not a minor edit. Thanks. Scolaire (talk) 17:27, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Dev's height

This source gives it as 'six feet one (inch)'. Not sure how you would like to work it into the article, but feel free. Best. RashersTierney (talk) 17:03, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

David Conn

I have a feeling it is in his book 'Searching the Soul of Football'. I'll have a look this afternoon. TheBigJagielka (talk) 11:35, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

JSTOR

The short answer is that I'm a librarian, and I work for an institution with a subscription to it. :-)

I'm gussing from your talkpage that you're in Ireland; if you're looking for somewhere you can get access, this suggests that most city and county library services have (some form of) JSTOR access, as do many HE institutions - offsite access may not be available, but if you can get onto a public-access computer within the library, it should authorise happily.

The two fires are a quite interesting topic, and I've started roughing out a plan at User:Shimgray/fire. I should hopefully have something to put into the mainspace in a week or two. It'll take a while to get the material pulled together, though - particularly with the Custom House fire, it's quite hard to find firm details of what was actually affected, beyond vague comments about "local government records". Any comments appreciated... Shimgray | talk | 14:05, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Rollback

After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback can be used to revert vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback may be removed at any time.

If you do not want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message on my talk page if you have any questions. Happy editing! Malinaccier (talk) 17:38, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the quick response. — O'Dea (talk) 17:59, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
