Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled
A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

New administrator activity requirement
The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.
Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:
- Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
- Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period
Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations opening soon
Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are opening in a few hours (00:01 UTC on 1 September). A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next coordination year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. - I have no idea if you used to respect me too, but just in case you did, I think you're in the wrong here, too, FWIW. I know it feels like being ganged up on, six people edit conflicting with you to tell you you're wrong. I've got my back up before when too many people are telling me the same thing at the same time. But it's also an indication that maybe you're actually in the wrong? - The vandalism-1 template is the lightest and softest touch of all the warnings about unconstructive editing. All it says is: "I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they did not appear constructive." and directs them to resources. It also spelled out my specific reasoning for issuing it -- that the claims of "original research" and "synth" weren't valid. And it prompted an incivil response right off the top, followed by threats and insults from admins who ought to know better. That set the tone for the rest of the encounter. If that was sufficient to "piss a lot of people off", then I think the existence of the civility policy as a whole needs to be revisited. ⇒SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 20:47, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

- I think I used a different template there; but regardless their response was equally unacceptable. "I disagree with what you're saying" is now devolving to "Competency is Required" as an insult. That would have been a near instant incivility block back in the day (from a 3rd party, obviously not myself), and there's now uninvolved admins swooping in to pile on, while saying nary a word to anyone else. Funny how the same voices that seemed to have so much to say about reliable sources don't have anything to say about the flurry of NAFO coverage from..... The Economist, Washington Post, Vice, Politico, shoutouts from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov putting up his own fella, etc. or how the material they were trying to remove is overwhelmingly back in the article. Why would people who were worried about stuff being sourced to unreliable sources be worried about that same stuff now being sourced to reliable sources? I think you still fundamentally misunderstand what the problem was. But you're also giving off an "eggshell armed with a hammer" vibe, so I think I'm done trying to do my kumbaya shtick. - It's not directed at you at all -- I had thought the outdent, and the paragraph separation, would have made that clear. But unfortunately, I think you've just made it clear that it isn't me who isn't listening -- the point is that the sources were never unreliable in the first place, Saint Javelin was never "spam", and that the article has since been updated has in fact vindicated my edits. So I'mma be real with you Floquenbeam -- I don't actually believe you came here in good faith to genuinely hear what I thought. I didn't ask for a "kumbaya schtick." I gave you genuine, good faith explanations of my position because I thought you were looking to discuss it. The fact that I explained my reasoning behind the template choice, and my issues with the weaponized use of WP:CIR as an insult? Didn't merit a response. Me speaking *on my own talk page* to the void, saying "Oh look, guess I was right all along?" That's what prompts a sudden accusation that I'm "not listening?" That's "emotionally draining?" Imagine how emotionally draining getting ganged up on and harassed by Wikimedians who don't understand core concepts of WP:CIVIL is? Imagine how emotionally draining being told by someone you've never met that you're "incompetent" because they disagree with your edits. ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
