Disambiguation link notification for October 13
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Howth, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Johnny Logan (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Flags in infoboxes
[edit]Hi. And welcome. You may wish to take a look at some of the manual of style guidelines relating to infoboxes. And their contents. In particular you might want to review MOS:INFOBOXFLAG. This guideline recommends against giving overdue attention to one element in an infobox. This guideline (on use of flags in infoboxes) is part of the broader WP:FLAGCRUFT guideline (on use of flags in other areas of articles). And sets out, in general, why overuse or unnecessary use of flag icons is something to avoid. Cheers. Guliolopez (talk) 23:51, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Hello TMN81! Delighted to see you actively improving the Irish part of WP (the bit I have returned to after a longish Wikibreak), and thanks for the Thanks tag! We all build on each others' work, and it is a pleasure to have a prompt. Best of luck, see you 'round, SeoR (talk) 22:32, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the Barnstar, appreciated. I do try, with localities, in Dublin and a few other parts of Ireland especially. Congratulations on your own AutoConfirmed status. SeoR (talk) 19:47, 14 November 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), such as at Wikipedia:Teahouse, please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:
- Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
- With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.
This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.
Thank you. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:33, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
Floating population infoboxes
[edit]Hi. Unless part of a broader body of content covering populations, please don't feel the need to give every floating population infobox it's own "section" and section heading. It is unnecessary. And, as in the case of this result (where the content associated with the heading was four full sections away), likely very confusing for a reader. Thanks. Guliolopez (talk) 23:10, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
Infoboxes
[edit]Hi. Me again. Is there a particular reason for linking country labels in infoboxes? Is the concern that the reader will not be aware of what a country is? And need context via a link to a list of countries? If that's the concern/intent, then the WP:OVERLINKING guideline may be of interest. If there's some other concern or intent, can you help me understand it? So I can assist if required? (Also, FYI, while I expect this isn't 'news', I would note that there's no "a" in "suburb" :) ). County Dublin doesn't exist
[edit]Please read the lead for County Dublin which states, "Since the abolition of the Dublin Regional Assembly by statutory instrument No. 573/2014,[1][2] the Eurostat statistical region known as "Dublin Region" falls under the remit of the wider Eastern and Midland Regional Authority."[3]
The county was abolished. Fingal was created as a county. It is a county. There is no such thing as just an "administrative county"; all counties are administrative. If they don't have a Council then they are not administrative and therefore not one of the extant counties of Ireland. There are many former counties in Ireland. Dublin is one of them. Laurel Lodged (talk) 09:27, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
@Laurel Lodged it says Dublin was abolished as a county council, that doesn't make it no longer a County so yes County Dublin no longer exist as a county council, but Dublin still exists as a county TMN81 (talk) 20:25, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
- It says, " in the case of the councils of the counties of Donegal, Dun Laoghaire — Rathdown, Fingal, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Mayo, Meath, South Dublin, Tipperary, Wexford and Wicklow and the council of the city and county of Limerick". So it names the new counties. It does not name Dublin as a county. Laurel Lodged (talk) 13:41, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
Stuff
[edit]Hiya. A few quick things. Firstly, in this edit you readded a bunch of content - which was both unencyclopedic and editorial in tone ("relative finesse", "shrewd", "tramp of marching feet could be heard", "indisputably a hero"), and apparent copyvio from here. Please consider checking any content you add or readd for policy compliance - rather than simply assuming it was removed for bad-faith reasons. Secondly, I note that you seem to be piping links in infoboxes to counties. Can you explain the rational for this? Why for example make it an WP:EASTEREGG for the reader - to find out after they click on "Roscommon" whether they are going to end up at Roscommon or County Roscommon? Or Mayo? Or Tipperary? Why deliberately create a DAB risk/issue? Guliolopez (talk) 10:29, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
@Guliolopez the reason I have been piping these links, is because the word County is already displayed beside them and their is no point saying County:county. The reader is going to know if they see a piped link for a county beside the word County that it is obviously for that county's. Though fair enough if it shares the name with the county as that can be confusing TMN81 (talk) 13:50, 25 November 2017 (UTC)

I just wanted to let you know that I fixed the issue in your template - you were missing a }} on one of the template calls. Now that it actually is working, I see that this template is meant for Cashel Extension Railway. However, the railway has all of two stops, which means that it's really not worth having an entire template dedicated to it. I have added the relevant information to the Railway. Where else would the template be used? Primefac (talk) 22:16, 2 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Primefac: Convention has been for route diagrams to be stuck into often single-use templates for code readability reasons, since they can be very long and are of little use to editors who can't read the syntax. There's nothing wrong with using them directly, though.
- There is no point in using the AFC process for templates, for what it's worth, since the process is only for mainspace (article) pages. Jc86035 (talk) 16:00, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
- Jc86035, convention may say so, but based on the last year+ of TFD discussions where single-use templates have been substituted into their parent article and deleted, I figured I would err on the side of caution.
- As for using AFC? It's not often used but there are about two dozen templates currently being worked on in the Draft space. There's nothing "wrong" with drafting a template first, since people jump on bad temples just as quickly as they do bad articles. Primefac (talk) 16:04, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Primefac: Oh, never mind; I assumed because of the page title. FWIW there's nothing on Wikipedia:Articles for creation about templates, except for the "templates" in the section header which isn't linked like the other three page types are for some reason. Jc86035 (talk) 16:06, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
- I know. It's kind of an awkward grey area. It's one of my long-term goals to set up some sort of "template draft space" where new (and experienced) users can play around with template coding, ask for advice, etc. I just never have the time to make it a main priority. Primefac (talk) 16:33, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
