Username & Promotion[edit]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 11:06, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:TheLachrymistFilm/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

Request reason:

I do not use this page for self-promotion. I only created an article I am personally connected to because it's an article that is mentioned on 4 other wikipedia articles and hasn't been created by anyone else yet. I used 5 different sources for the article. I own the rights to the image I tried to upload to Wikimedia. I have followed the rules exactly as written. I deserve to have my account unblocked and the one article I created restored.TheLachrymistFilm (talk) 13:14, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You will need to request a new username, as explained in the block message. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:39, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm still new to all this and struggling, but I'm at least trying follow the rules as best I can. I didn't see where it says I should change my user name. I'm happy to do it, but can't figure out how. Will this solve the issue and my account will be restored? TheLachrymistFilm (talk) 1:17 pm, Today (UTC−8)

Decline reason:

Please look at the tag with the header "Username & Promotion". Basically, a username can not reflect a business, company or organization, only individuals can be editors, not groups. Your username reflects a commercial enterprise that you consistently write about. These are both problems, first with a commercial username and secondly, the fact that you write about yourself and your films. You, and all companies in your place, have a conflict of interest when you are writing about yourself. Another reason for your block is that it is doubtful you will choose to edit articles that are not related to your company. Liz Read! Talk! 22:23, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

so if I agree to change the user name, agree not create an article about something I'm affiliated with and also agree to contribute to other articles, can I be unblocked? TheLachrymistFilm (talk) 01:38, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've edited your above comment to remove the unblock request formatting, as it is not an unblock request. Simple statements that are not unblock requests should not be formatted as unblock requests. To answer you, probably, especially if you state what it is you will edit about if you agree to not edit in the area of your conflict of interest. Please review WP:COI and WP:PAID. 331dot (talk) 08:00, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

it was an unblock request. I'm asking what do I have to do to be unblocked. If I agree to change the user name, agree not create an article about something I'm affiliated with and also agree to contribute to other articles, can I be unblocked? I would like to be unblocked, so I'm willing to do these things. This is not an auto block. This block does not have an expiration date. I have read the guide to appealing blocks and I have already followed the instructions. I understand what I am blocked for, I will not do it again, and I will make productive contributions instead. If this is still not good enough to be unblocked, then someone needs to explain why and what I can do differently.

Decline reason:

You seem to be having difficulty understanding the instructions given to you, both in the original block notice and in the messages you have received in answer to your unblock requests. Please go back to the block notice and re-read the section beginning "If you intend to make useful contributions..." Then make an unblock request which follows the instructions there, including offering a new user name that you are willing to change to, in the way that you are told to do it there. Also, the problem with unblock requests which merely say general things such as "I understand what I am blocked for, I will not do it again" is that experience over the years shows that very often the editor in question does not, in fact, understand the reasons for the block, and will do it again. Therefore, please show that you understand what the reason for the block is, by explaining in your own words what it is that you won't do again, rather than just saying that you understand it. Finally, most administrators are unwilling to unblock in this kind of situation unless the blocked editor gives a clear indication of some specific type of editing he or she expects to do, rather than just saying that they will "make productive contributions". You will need to suggest a new username that complies with the username policy per the instructions in your block notice; you will need to agree to not edit in the area of your conflict of interest, and state what articles or topic areas you are interested in editing since you won't be editing about subjects related to your COI. 331dot (talk) 09:57, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
