Mini Mammoth

(In response to your comment on my talk page)

Dear Viridae, I have done no such thing and was about to say the same thing to you. I didn't undo your edits repeatedly. You, on the other hand, repeatedly attempted to delete the edits of other people as they made them. In case you didn't realise, blanking articles is not counted as a bona fide edit. In this case, you would have been the one reprimanded. Just a heads up. Thanks -- Pontifexmaximus 11:31, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

AFD Sockpuppet Templates

Those templates that you put into the Mini Mammoth AFD for users who had not made other contributions - what is the code? ViridaeTalk 14:42, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

There isn't one! Though I probably should create one. I'll get back to you when I do. Need to think about the wording and linking first to be as impartial as possible. --  Netsnipe  (Talk)  16:02, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

What do you think of Template:spa?

Viridae (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

If you think it's good enough, do you think I should add a note about it to the afdnewbies template? --  Netsnipe  (Talk)  16:24, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

I like it! That will be really useful. ViridaeTalk 22:32, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Wow. {{spa}} has really taken off. From Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Meathead (2nd nomination):

  • Delete is still my vote from last time, for the reasons above. But I give it 3 more hours before the meatpuppets attack again. Get ready with your {{spa}} and {{unsigned}} tags. — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 10:51, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for encouraging me to turn it into a template. I now have a inane claim to WikiFame. I'm the inventor of the increasingly popular {{spa}} tag! = P Cheers,  Netsnipe  (Talk)  17:14, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Reverted Edit

Please revert the edit back. I do not know what he is doing to the page for I made legitamate and Wiki-worthy edits on the Anaheim Hills, Anaheim, California page. I have not gotten along with the users here in the past, so they revert every edit I make to anything no matter how well the content is written. I ask you kindly to revert the edits because all have been verified, and they have no reason not to like the content of the edits. I would appreciate your revert. Thanks, and please respond. --69.227.160.83 07:09, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Judging by the edit history you have been edit warring with people. If I am wrong, I apologise, but if you wish your edits to stay, please take it up with those people who you say are continually reverting your edits. I am on RC patrol and do not wish to get involved. ViridaeTalk 07:12, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Since nobody has countered the edits thus far on the talk page, may I revert them, and then leave a note on the talk page stating that you may not revert these edits until a community consensus is reached. I dont want to get blocked, but I want to be firm enough so that my edits remain until the community can agree. May I do that, and thoroughly explain my edits on the talk page? --69.227.160.83 07:14, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Will you add a suspected sockpuppet master tag to the user:coolcaesar page. He is currently a listed ArbCom Case, and has a suspected sockpuppet, user:Anaheimat but keeps deleting the tag. Until a checkuser is made, I think it needs to remain there. I would appreciate it. --69.227.160.83 07:27, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Viridae. I've not bothered previously because I've added the template after he's been spotted by others and blocked - I actually reported the first sock. This time I was about to say something after adding the template but Musical Linguist got in first and blocked. It's not necessary to add a note after a block's taken place is it? Thanks. --Lo2u (TC) 13:38, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply - actually I hadn't been entirely sure of the procedure for reporting socks so glad you let me know. Best. --Lo2u (TC) 13:53, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
That wasn't actually a sock report. That was a block evasion one. However if you take a look at WP:AN there is a dedicated page for reporting socks. Also pages for reporting anything else that needs administrator assistance outside of deletions. ViridaeTalk 13:56, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. Just wondering are the sockpuppet templates the correct ones to use for the IPs in that case? --Lo2u (TC) 13:59, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

The link to Official Site (http://www.melodia.ru/) is incorrect. It points to the site of the Melodia FM radiostation. Even if you can't read Russian it's easy to notice the "91.1 FM" on that page.

Gastric bypass diet

I see were you voted to have this deleted and looks like you are asking for help from other members to vote as you tell them. I am asking if could you explain why as it makes no sense to get rid of very important article since surgery is one matter recovery is another. I am asking you to please reconsider your vote as this is too important to just get rid of. I have seen countless people after this operation get in terrible shape due to lack of knowing what to do after this operation.. Look at the references I supplied and see this is accurate information needed to be in Wikipedia --Supplements 14:02, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

I don't know where you got the idea that I was asking others to "vote" as I tell them. I voted to delete because of the existance of something similar and relevant in the encyclopedia. I realise you have put a lot of work into that, so I suggest youcontact the admin that closes it and get them to transfer it to your userspace. ViridaeTalk 23:27, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Adminship

Hello, Viridae. We haven't interacted directly before but I've looked at your contributions. I think you will make an excellent administrator; I'd like to nominate you at WP:RFA. You've participated in RFAs so you probably know how it works; more reading for nominees is at WP:GRFA. What do you say? :) Quarl (talk) 2006-07-31 21:05Z

I am honoured! Thanks! The biggest problem I can see with an RfA for me would be that I have only been here a little over 3 months, so its up to you if you would be happy to support an RfA at this stage, go for it - otherwise give it a month or so. But a huge thankyou! ViridaeTalk 23:15, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Some people will object over the 3-month thing, but then again some will oppose anyone that's been here less than a year :) I've nominated you at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Viridae. To accept, say so on the page, answer the questions, edit the closing time to reflect when you accepted, and add your entry to the top of WP:RFA. Good luck! Quarl (talk) 2006-08-01 09:04Z
Well, its done. Once again, thanks for the nom. ViridaeTalk 12:20, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

I see you withdrew... I underestimated the number of people that would oppose over length of time - standards have changed. As I said in the RFA, I think wallclock time is less useful than many RFA participants appear to think it is. It looks like all the opposers were happy with what you're doing, just not how long you've been doing it. So just keep editing and participate in admin-visible areas and your next RFA will go great; I'm happy to nominate you again. Quarl (talk) 2006-08-03 08:10Z

Who do you think you are?

I resent your removal of my comment to the Southport Marina "article." I was not playing or experimenting but I will admit I am not so anally fixated as to know every little rule and protocol of your little club.

As I noted at the top of the article, it is garbage, not an encyclopedia article, and I will further note that it should be removed entirely. I didn't feel comfortable doing that, so I noted the fact on the article itself so that someone responsible - as you apparently are supposed to be - would do so. Instead you removed my note and reverted to the existing item without examination, so far as I can tell - since you reverted it precisely ONE minute after I posted it. While there is nothing vile about the item, it is very dated old news, and an encyclopedia to my mind should be of a slightly less dated nature. The giveaway is the number of times the author uses "currently" and similar modifiers, and it was posted in January.

But you after all are a university student, in a scientific field, so why should the nuances of scholarship concern you at this point? You are why Wikipedia is so thoroughly useless and unreliable, and you and this ridiculous product both suck. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.12.16.13 (talkcontribs)

If you wish to complain about the validity of an article, please do so on the articles talk page. NOT in the article itself. If you think that the article is out of date and you can provide better reliable and verifiable information, please feel free to edit the article appropriately. I reverted your edit so soon after you posted it because I am currently viewing all the recent changes in almost real time, reverting any edits considered vandalism or unconstructive. I would also ask that you read wikipedia's policy on personal attacks and refrain from calling names in the future. ViridaeTalk 02:02, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Rfa

Yo Viridae - I have a lot of faith in you, as do many others. But it seems right now that your RfA will prolly not obtain consensus. With respect, I think you should consider withdrawing the nom and coming back in two months time. You're a great editor and terrific potential admin, so you don't have anything to worry about. If you choose to keep on fighting, you have my support and best wishes. Cheers, Rama's arrow 12:50, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Bubble Hash page

I have been warned for vandalism by continuing to edit an article to only include fact and resources, and remove the one sided commercial advert info that the icecold.org people continue to add over and over again?

I would like to point out that I am an independant expert in the area of cannabis and bubble hash, and icecold.org (or richard) is simply removing anything that doesn't solely advertise for him company.

Since it has gotten to here what can I do about this? This edit war has gone on for several months. I am interested in keeping wiki fact based, not an advertising service. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.23.69.113 (talkcontribs)

The first thing I would reccomend doing would be to get an account. For a start, it allows you to interact more easily with other users and allows you to watch the article for any changes which you consider harmfull. It is free, you will not be spammed and there are many other benefits - too many to list here. Once you have an account and have made an edit with it it can not and will not be deleted due to wikipedia's licencing policy. It will also allow me to contact you more easily. Ip addresses are harder to deal with. If you do get an account, leave a message on my talk page - my username/link to my userpage will be found in the histoy of the Bubble hash page.
On reading the article (when I gave that warning I was quickly viewing a selection of recent changes) I see what you mean. I have reverted to the version you left it as, but editing the comment about spam that you left at the top of the page to make it only visible when someone is editing the page. It was that warning that caused me to revert your changes and warn you for vandalism. I have also added the page to my watch list to ensure that the spam edits do not remain if they are repeated again. Finally I will warn the user with a spam template similar to the one you added to the top of the article. If you have any further questions, or want further help, don't hesitate to leave another note on my talk page. (But don't forget to sign your posts on talk pages with four tildes) ViridaeTalk 15:00, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Message

Viridae The name of some class of microorganism I imagine.

You blew me away by answering in one minute. I expected to wait at least a week.

It does not seem right that I should write to you by editing your talk page (if that is even what I am doing). Is that really the way it is done?

Thank you for fixing my Zero Waste edit so it did not run off the right side but what did I do wrong in the first place? Even my question appeared in the forum with the same problem. Presumably this will show the same defect.

I did some reading in Tutorial and Editing to see if I could answer my questions but I could not. Those are all about the social aspects of interacting, not the details of editing. I clicked on Character to find out about Newlines but though it went into exquisite detail on the use of CR LF in programming and everywhere EXCEPT in Wikipedia, I learned nothing from my reading.

I still have no idea what a signature is. Apparently I sign edits like this one below by writing four tildes. I'll try it. But that's a user name, not a signature.

My impression is that all I can learn from the tutorials is courtesy. The technical details seem to be absent. If there is a place that sits you down and actually explains how things work, I haven't found it. I have a distinct fondness for simple declarative sentences. They are an endangered species in modern explicative writing. The explainers seem committed to jargonistic descriptive sentences (masquerading as answers to "What is a widget") which require deep study and many readings before you dimly perceive the outlines of what the widget actually is, by which time you don't care anymore. I know that in the Wiki tradition it would be my place to create the better explanation but that is woefully over my head at this time.

Thanks for your help.

Arabic-4 changes

Thanks for changing the Arabic userbox, apparently the user that changed the userbox used a very 'childish' vocabulary and it didn't make sense. Thanks for realising the changes made on userboxes. Hello! Thank you very much for your advice. Here's what happened to the "Teens Transforming the Community Page". My name is Aaria Rahim and this article was written about the organization that I founded by the an organization dedicated to Youth and their inititatives. Another individual at my school who is NOT involved in this organization has edited this page and now the page is inaccurate and NOT correct at all! Before other individuals receive the wrong idea about this organization, I Would like to clarify what happened. I would like to edit this article to the correct in meantime, while it is marked for deletion. Thank you. Blobclick. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blobclick (talkcontribs)

Question

I recalled some instruction to use the discussion page for my article on Zero Waste to have discussions so I clicked on Discussion above. There is only one message there from six months ago. Not knowing what else to do, I clicked on Edit This Page. I got a download menu saying that my computer was downloading a PHP file called, I think, index. This is a complete misdirection for me. What am I supposed to do with a PHP file that I do not recognize? What is it? What does it have to do with a discussion? Why can't I simply post a note in a discussion list like that other person seems to have been able to do?

I am having the impression that I am getting locked out of everything, simply because it is all so damned complicated and non-intuitive. I can't edit anything without getting wrapped up in one layer after another of meaningless, non-responsive garbage. These conversations I have with you are the only successes I have in achieving communications on Wikipedia. Except for that initial edit I did, which I cannot duplicate at all anymore.

I noticed that when I came to Wikipedia today, I was not asked for a login. Is that automatic now, based on my transmitted data? Zerowaster 20:26, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: Feces

Then why didn't you linkimage the image of rabbit feces too? I personally think the linkimage template is ridiculous, given our standing as an encyclopedia and our principle that Wikipedia is Not Censored. Removing the image clearly had no support, and it had been stable in the article (non-linkimaged) for quite some time. I just put it back to the way it was. Powers 01:23, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

I understand and appreciate it the thought, but I think your methods are flawed. A linkimage is not much of a compromise, in my opinion, and even if it was, I don't think an edit war was obviously in the making. Powers 01:31, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

I spotted your query about seeing semiprotection on WP:AN: "Still can' work out why it wasn't showing up as sprotected".

My guess is that since your account is more than 4 days old (autoconfirmed), that semiprotection doesn't apply to your account, so you just saw the "edit this page" button as normal. So there isn't a way for an autoconfirmed user to see if a page is sprotected.

However, for admins the "protect" tab turns to "unprotect" if the page is semiprotected (or fully protected etc). But in this case no change would be noticed by admins, since the page is always protected against page moves.

OK I think I have just confused myself :P

Anyway, thanks for the Children's Aid Society note you left me a while ago :-).--Commander Keane 13:37, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Viridae, No need to dispute the merger...just remove the heading. The merger page Notable YouTube Users has been made as a link/fork page. Most of her pertainent(sp?) information will be added to the page later anyway, but as it stands right now, it's just a Fork. Works better that way for now. --Bschott 23:52, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Falsely accused of vandalism

I received a message stating that I had vandalized the page of Royal Harwood Frost as well as Mötley Crüe, neither of which have I ever visited on Wikipedia, to my knowledge. I don't know quite how this IP address was traced back to those changes, but I guarantee that they were not done using this computer.

Thanks

Bubble Hash Issue

Thanks for the fairness Vir! I love wiki and have created an account like you requested. I am interested in how I can help stop the commercial edit war on that page. I do not work for any company that manufactures bubble hash extraction units and wish the page would be more npov. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by FreeThePlant (talkcontribs)

Wisdom Teeth

I changed the etymology of wisdom teeth because it reiterated the Dutch folk etymology that the Dutch word comes from far-standing-molar, and that the English and other words are mistraslation of the Dutch word 'verstand', meaning something like common sense. Even Dutch etymological sources do not follow this explanation, so I figured, why should the english wikipedia do. Its a funny tale, sure, but not exactly true. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.84.61.67 (talkcontribs)

Thank you for your support on my RFA, which closed successfully this morning with a result of (53/2/1). I've spent the day trying out the new tools, and trying not to mess things up too badly :). I was quite thrilled with all the support, both from the people I see around every day, as well as many users who I didn't know from before, yet wrote such wonderful things about me. I look forward to helping to serve all of you, and the project. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with. -Goldom ‽‽‽ 04:34, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Abrahamic religions

You sent me a message about "vandalizing" the Abrahamic Religions page. You, sir, are full of it. Instead of addressing my reasons for deleting the map, you accuse me of vandalizing the page. Are you at all familiar with the stated purpose of Wikipedia? I can see no evidence that you are. I deleted a wilfully misleading map that purposefully minimized religious diversity in an effort to show the supremacy of Abrahamic religions. A person who has publicly advertised their adherence to one of these religions continually re-edits the page to put the map back--I respond by deleting it, believing it, in good faith, to be highly misleading. If you have the data to back up this propagandistic map, by all means send them to me. I'm positive you don't. I also suggest you read Mark Monmonier's How to Lie with Maps, specifically the sections on choropleth maps. I am a Ph.D. candidate in geography and am well versed in cartography, and, more specifically, how maps are used to manipulate public opinion. The map included on this page is a classic example of how to lie with maps. As a matter of fact, I have downloaded the map and plan to use it in future courses on the subject. I suggest you read the reasons I stated for deleting the map, review the goals of Wikipedia, and, when you've come to your senses, delete this work of cartographic propaganda. And an apology would also be appropriate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sdasdf (talkcontribs)

Hi, Viridae. Thanks for the contact. I removed content from Knitting because I felt it seemed excessively detailed considering it was a more general article. Quick Question

Hello,

I wanted to address the removing of the content that I added to the "polar bears" article.

I graduated with close to a 4.0 GPA with a degree in meteorology from Florida State, a world-renowned school for meteorology. I have to be somewhat concerned about an "environmental...policy expert" who is clouding this issue - and yet he has no environmental education.

Also of note is the fact that, while air temperatures may be decreasing over a few regions near the poles, the ice is still melting - quickly. This is because it is more than just the air temperature that affects the rate at which the ice melts - it is also the water temperature. And as the ice continues to melt the polar bears, along with the entire arctic ecosystem, will be threatened.

If you feel I have shown why my edit/addition was important please restore it. There are a lot of people around the world who would much rather all of us believe that global warming is not happening...the least that can be done is have a balanced discussion free of red herrings provided by "environmental...policy experts."

Thanks.

This is after Carmelapple wrote, You vandalized 'March 20'. without a shred of evidence.

The words are uncivil and however, and they're not the only things 180 degrees wrong in the sentence you wrote, but for goodness sake, don't, repeat, don't treat Wikipedia users like they are idiots here.

I appreciate you getting back to me.203.134.131.18 15:09, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism and warnings

Hi - I saw your recent comments at Wikipedia talk:Removing warnings poll.

How would you respond to Calton (talk · contribs · block log) and his behaviour on 3 August. Have a look at the history of his talk page. He is a useful vandal fighter but abusive to those who don't see quite his shade of black and he removed warnings which in my view were well deserved. Is he a vandal? Because this is a personal example, I don't think it particularly fair to take to the poll for debate. But then having been told to get bent and remove complete bullshit, by a troll and his enabler in user summaries plus his contributions to my talk page (that I have not refactored), I might yet.

Calton was warned on 3 August for such gems as vandalized nothing, you reading-impaired Perry Mason-wannabe, and your sudden shock SHOCK over POV-pushing would be hysteriically laughable if it didn't cause so many problems. [4] For a request from me immediately following the above edit to Please stay civil [5] I was abused for being a troll enabler ... So, was he right to remove the warning? - was it vandalism if removed by a prominent vandal fighter? Vandal fighters are not one bit comfortable with being called vandals, which is why I think perhaps we need to find a more neutral definition - for example, just removing warnings given in good faith relating to specific edits is not allowed. (I did eventually block him and he did in fact in my view cool down as a result.) Regards--Arktos talk 00:06, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Still vandalism in my book but vandalism better dealt with via WP:PAIN. IN this case I would warn him to remain civil as you did - when he removed the warnings and was further uncivil I would rpelace and leave "please do not remove warnings from talk pages" warning. If he continued to remove them/be uncivil I would report him to WP:PAIN with a note that has has been repeatedly warned and has repeatedly removed the warnings. I would also consider reporting to WP:AIVfor repeatedly removing valid warnings in addition to the personal attacks. To be honest, vandalfighters should know better than to remove a valid warning - if he is uncivil like that and gets warned for it then he should know it is wrong to remove the warning - his temper does not help him (as demonstrated. However, finding a new way of describing the removal of valid warnings isn't a bad idea. That said, untill we have a policy that is totally related to that, I think it should remain under the vandalism heading. We need to abe able to cite it in the mean time.
