New Category Wikipedias in languages of the UK

[edit]

Hello YeeterMan,

Welcome to Wikipedia. Not sure if you've edited at other Wikipedias, but Category:Wikipedias in languages of the UK is not an appropriate category - we don't do categorization by language-of-country, it'd be hugely duplicative. Just the container category of Category:Wikipedias by language is fine. Note that there's ~200 countries in the world but only 121 Wikipedia language editions with articles, so a by-country subcategorization scheme would have more subcats than articles. Since you just created it recently, you can delete it yourself with {{db-author}} after undoing the article additions. If you disagree, we can take this to WP:CFD, but I think it's highly unlikely the category would survive a CFD discussion. SnowFire (talk) 14:13, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: Note that I suggested a speedy delete tag above, for your question below about where the idea came from.
While I'm here, though, I strongly suggest you slow down on categories and read categorization guidelines, YeeterMan. The same problems I described above exist for the newly created Category:Controversial Wikipedias. If you really are a new editor, I would recommend not starting with category work, as categories are much stricter than content elsewhere: they need to have simple in-or-out criteria, and "controversial" is far too vague to be useful. More generally, we frankly have too many categories already from well-meaning editors resulting in the problem of overcategorization. We don't need or want to add every possible distinction in categories. Please suggest your new category for deletion as well, and consider asking around some on talk pages or Wikiproject discussions before you create a new category - there's no deadline. Previous account(s)

[edit]

Hello, YeeterManAUSTRALIA,

What account have you edited with on Wikipedia before this one? It would be helpful if you listed them on your User page. It is highly unusual for an editor less than a day old to know about tagging pages for speedy deletion or creating categories. Also, please do not create nonexistent, red link categories per WP:REDNO. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 21:41, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't remember any other accounts I've used. YeeterManAUSTRALIA (talk) 21:48, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Controversial Wikipedias has been nominated for deletion

[edit]

Category:Controversial Wikipedias has been nominated for deletion. A discussion is taking place to decide whether this proposal complies with the categorization guidelines. If you would like to participate in the discussion, you are invited to add your comments at the category's entry on the categories for discussion page. Thank you.
