Deprecated Parms
[edit]Howdy! There are a couple of templates in Category:Deprecated parameters that appear to be your work. I wanted to see if you could help walk point me towards the way of removing the deprecated params for:
- {{SvFF player}}
- {{RomanianSoccer}}
- {{FIG}}
- {{World Sailing}}
I'm happy to take care of the process, just hoping you might point me towards what needs to be done. Thanks! --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 04:35, 21 January 2023 (UTC)

- Category:USA Swimming template with deprecated parameter and Category:World Sailing template with deprecated parameter have been tagged for deletion, Zyxw. What is your opinion on this? Liz Read! Talk! 01:49, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- For {{RomanianSoccer}}, replace
|old_id=
with|id=
, taking the id number from the link that you get when you click through the template. Like this. – Jonesey95 (talk) 01:52, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- For {{RomanianSoccer}}, replace
- For {{FIG}}, if the external link ends in "licence", replace
|id=
with|lic=
, like this. There are probably other types of fixes. I got this from the documentation, FWIW, and checked the resulting link to make sure it worked. – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:03, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- For {{FIG}}, if the external link ends in "licence", replace

Olympics.com template
[edit]Hi! Is there a reason why it should produce two (almost) identical links? Not like it's too informative anyway.
- Anna Pohlak at Olympics.com
- Anna Pohlak at Olympic.org (archived)
Pelmeen10 (talk) 01:43, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- The archived Olympic.org page contains the athlete's full birth date which can useful for verification. I often include that optional link if I am replacing {{IOC profile}}. The Olympic.org link is not included by default and is only shown if
|org_archive=
is in the template. Over 75% of the pages using {{Olympics.com profile}} only display the current Olympics.com link, such as: - -- Zyxw (talk) 02:48, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

Mess in ext. links sections
[edit]Dear, I see what are you doing. Please, slow down a little. Do not add too many links, it's useless, you are doing one big mess. Do not add Instagram/Twitter links. Do not add Commonwealth Games profiles links - there is nothing interesting in those profiles and for athletes who competed in, let's say, 2 CG you would need to add 2 links which is really too much. Also World Athletics profile should be at the top of the links as it is the most important profile/link. Track1News (talk) 09:00, 22 May 2023 (UTC)

{{World Snooker}}
[edit]Hello! You cannot edit the addition of a Wikidata property P4498? MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 15:33, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- The Wikidata property could be added, but that template uses {{cite web}} and the way you tried to do it in this edit broke that. {{World Snooker}} was designed to be used as reference and was only used in 22 articles, so I reverted your edit and created {{WST player}}. This new template is designed to be used as an external link and can use the Wikidata property. -- Zyxw (talk) 06:21, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
Hello! You cannot edit the addition of a Wikidata property P10001? MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 05:37, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
- The way you tried to add the Wikidata property in this edit broke the output of the template because you didn't update the {{cite web}} template correctly. I've added Wikidata property without breaking anything. For an example, see Mario Vucenovic § External links. -- Zyxw (talk) 16:55, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
Hello! There are 557 templates in this category that are dedicated to people. Could you distribute them according to the countries of the world? MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 16:24, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- Most templates in that category are not country-specific, but I was able to move some of them and get it down to 487 templates. -- Zyxw (talk) 18:26, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
Good morning! Could you create a template where links to athletes from the Azerbaijan NOC website would be placed? MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 05:02, 24 June 2023 (UTC)

Disruptive removal of external links
[edit]Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Please stop removing extenal links from articles. CLalgo (talk) 19:02, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- @CLalgo: If you are referring to today's edits, I only removed one of two links that are duplicates of link generated by {{sports links}}: the template {{IOC profile}} links to the same website as the Olympics.com link and the template {{Sports-Reference}} generates an archived link to a website now available in the Olympedia link version. That is why the edit summaries said "remove duplicate link". -- Zyxw (talk) 19:11, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Zyxw: Please excuse me. {{IOC profile}} use to link to an archived version of Olympic.org. Do you know what caused it to stop doing so? I saw no recent edits that could have triggered the change. CLalgo (talk) 21:10, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- @CLalgo: The {{IOC profile}} template has always linked to an athlete's URL at olympic
.org (which the IOC now redirects to the same athlete's URL at olympics .com). It has never displayed an archived link, which I confirmed by reviewing all of the edits since 2016 when I created that template. The newer template {{Olympics.com profile}}, which I created in 2021, links directly to Olympics.com website and has optional parameters to display additional links to archived copies of the former Olympic.org and/or OlympicChannel.com websites. -- Zyxw (talk) 01:44, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
- @CLalgo: The {{IOC profile}} template has always linked to an athlete's URL at olympic
- @Zyxw: That settles it for {{IOC profile}}. I apologize for reverting your edits regarding that template. As for {{Sports-Reference}}: that template still seems to provide a link to a site different than Olympedia.org. CLalgo (talk) 10:13, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
External links to CricketArchive
[edit]Hi. I appreciate that you're also adding links to an archived version of the site, but in general we try and avoid putting external links to this site anymore - under WP:ELNO grounds as it's paywalled. As a reference it's fine (and often very helpful), but the suggestion is that it's best avoided as an external link. I've noticed you do it quite a few times over the past few days and wondered if there was a rationale for doing so that I'm unaware of? Blue Square Thing (talk) 18:27, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
- My only rationale was that the majority of cricketer articles here have links for CricInfo and CricketArchive. That was why I added it to a few articles I edited for other reasons. Also, the ones I added today all have an archive link included where you can view the page without subscribing. -- Zyxw (talk) 18:37, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if the majority do have an ext link to CA, but we've generally been trying to remove them over time since CA went behind its paywall. As I say, I appreciate the archive link but I think we might be better using it as a reference rather than an external link if I'm honest. Blue Square Thing (talk) 18:42, 27 June 2023 (UTC)

WST player template
[edit]@Zyxw: The "Fix dead links" tool does not work for any references using your WST player template. These have to be changed to normal references manually. So references to any player whose data has been deleted by WST (e.g. Liang Wenbo etc.) that use your. template need to be changed. I used your template extensively in the List of snooker players and have changed the references for the ten banned Chinese players in that list, but have not looked at their individual articles. I'm not sure whether we should change them as I did in the list, or delete them entirely. What do you think? Alan (talk) 09:23, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- As per the documentation at {{WST player}}, it is "intended for use in the external links section of an article". The List of snooker players article has been updated so all those World Snooker Tour references use {{cite web}} again. The {{WST player}} template was updated to allow an archive parameter and the player pages with dead WST links in the External links section were updated. -- Zyxw (talk) 17:12, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Brilliant! Thank you. Alan (talk) 17:41, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

SABR
[edit]As someone who admires the work of SABR when it comes to research and who uses their work a lot in baseball articles, I just want thank you for this amazing effort you just underwent/are undergoing. -- Omnis Scientia (talk) 10:55, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for noticing and you're welcome. I saw there were a lot of SABR Baseball Bio Project links and a template which already existed, so figured I'd update them to use that template. Besides providing a uniform appearance, it facilitates uploading the those IDs to Wikidata property SABR person ID (P2482). -- Zyxw (talk) 01:11, 10 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello! Can you link this template to the P3660 Wikidata property? MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 21:25, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

Olympic identifies templates
[edit]Good evening! Could you list all the National Olympic Committee sites whose templates can be used to create a Wikidata property? You recently created the above templates for the Olympic Committees of Azerbaijan and Turkey. Meanwhile, I checked almost all the websites of the European Olympic committees, as well as a number of Asian ones, for this opportunity, but this work is too expensive for me. MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 19:12, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
- You can find a list of the National Olympic Committee athlete profile templates and their associated Wikidata properties at the bottom of the documentation of any one of them, such as Template:Olympic.az § See also. Most of them have a Wikidata property, but two that do not are Template:Team Norway (for teamnor.no profiles from the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports) and Template:COSL profile (for teamletzebuerg.lu profiles from the Luxembourg Olympic and Sporting Committee). -- Zyxw (talk) 19:37, 29 October 2023 (UTC)

Change of article names
[edit]Hello! Can you change article names about biathletes in context that many of them has become married?. Paulina Fialková has changed name Paulina Batovská Fialková, Dzinara Alimbekava has married and is now named Smolskaya, Martina Zellner is now named Seidl after she married many years ago, Katharina Innerhofer is now named Komatz 80.212.168.110 (talk) 14:56, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
- I moved Paulína Fialková to Paulína Bátovská Fialková, Dzinara Alimbekava to Dzinara Smolskaya, and Katharina Innerhofer to Katharina Komatz since their official International Biathlon Union profiles use the new name (the IBU links are shown in the external links section of each article). I also added some references for the name change in each of those articles. I did not move Martina Zellner since her IBU profile still uses that name. -- Zyxw (talk) 15:29, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
