The Vinod Gupta School of Management is a business school in India. It was established in 1993 at IIT Kharagpur and was the first management school to be set up within the IIT system. It was initiated by a distinguished alumnus and a Life Time Fellow of the Institute, Vinod Gupta.

History

The Vinod Gupta School of Management(VGSoM), IIT Kharagpur, was set up in 1993 with a $2-million endowment from a distinguished alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, Mr.Vinod Gupta, matched by liberal support from the Government of India. The foundation stone of the School was laid by the then President of India, late Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma in July 1994, and the School moved to its new building in December 1996. VGSOM at IIT, Kharagpur was the first of its kind in the country.[citation needed]

Committees And Clubs

There are various committees and clubs which are run primarily by the students of VGSOM. These include the Placement Committee,Marketing and Advertising Club (MAD),the Corporate and Media Interaction Committee (CMI), Saamanjasya,the Alumni Committee, the Admissions Committee, the Acad Committee among others. In addition to these committees, VGSoM boasts of strong clubs specializing in Marketing(MAD), Finance(Finterest), ScOpe(Operations) and Consultancy. All of these are run and managed by the students themselves.

Marketing and Advertisement (MAD) Club

MAD is where marketeers of tomorrow are shaped.Members and Coordinators discuss a number of topics and developments related to marketing and help each other gain deeper insights in the marvellous world of business.MAD club has provided a number of industry projects to VGSoMites with best brands in the country. MAD club is also a proud organizer of MADison Avenue-a fest for marketing enthusiast across India. MAD club also publishes magazine under the name of MADazine.

Student's Council

The student's council is headed by the President accompanied by three General Secretaries and a head treasurer all of them from second year. The students from first year take up the posts of Vice President, Asst. General Secretaries and treasurer. The students from first year are elected after a formal voting process. These students are in turn promoted to be the President, General Secretaries and Head Treasurer in the second year. The posts in General Secretaries are further classified as External Affairs, Events and Academics. The members of the student's council are responsible for forming the core committee for Purvodaya- the flagship event of VGSoM & Vinculum- the Annual VGSOM day apart from their central activities which includes coordinating & managing different committees and clubs. They are also responsible for maintaining funds for different clubs and all internal & external interaction made with the institution.[citation needed]

Halls of Residence

VGSOM provides on-campus residential accommodation facility to all its students. The halls are not exclusively for VGSOM students but are shared with IIT Kharagpur students from other courses. These halls are managed and maintained by the Hall Management Committee.

Boys Hostel

Vidya Sagar, Jagadish Chandra Bose, Madan Mohan Malviya Halls of Residence are the boys hostels for VGSOM students. Accommodation in these halls is on single or twin sharing basis. All the hostels are provided with internet connectivity in each room for which the students have to pay a nominal but compulsory charge.

Girls Hostel

Sarojini Naidu, Indira Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Rani Lakshmibai Halls are the halls of residence for girls.
