- "Seagull manager" or "Mushroom management" (filter log)
- Description
- I was attempting to add links in the "See also" section for the "Seagull manager" and "Mushroom management" pages to other abusive management pages on Wikipedia. Addition of the valid Wikipedia page titled "Fit in or Fuck off" (FIFO) in the "See also" sections of these pages was obviously flagged for "usage" of the F-word. There are other Wikipedia pages that link to that page via "See also". I.e., your filter is flawed as it is blocking titles of valid Wikipedia pages, and not user swearing. Please don't respond to me about this by talk. I simply request that someone with appropriate authority decide what to do, such as adding the related links, and/or fix the flawed filter, or just keep ignoring the issue. Thank you.

- Description
- I was just about to recategorize the page. I wanted to remove the wrong categorization under "Japanese inventions" and categorize it under "German inventions" which is the actual country of origin where it was developed and where the license was held until a few years ago when MP3 became free from patents. - Carl Benjamin (filter log)
- Description
- I was attempting to add the following information and citation to the part of the page about the controversy between Carl Benjamin and Jess Philips: " although he could have been referring to an incident on October 27th of 2015 when Phillips reportedly sniggered at the suggestion that issues that disproportionately affect men, including suicide, should be discussed in parliament [1]; some have said that " I was merely adding information and a citation, not deleting anything or removing any other citations. For this reason, I believe that this was a false positive and that I wasn't doing anything disruptive.

- as described above - sorry to repeat but this is the only way i can see to edit. I also now realise that a bot might have picked up on two 'bad' words I found in the oxford english dictionary. in this case context is everything, I doubt a.i. has yet developed sufficiently to get my meaning, I hope it's clearer to you. Can I just 'redact' those words & leave the rest the same? It would most certainly not have been my intention to cause offence to anyone with those words, i was illustrating a point about how dictionaries work.

- in the course of contributing to a discussion about altering the tone of an article I was responding to criticism which i perceive as unfair. since an automated process blocked my response I would like to understand how I could re-write my response in an acceptable fashion while still making a valid point. Was it simply the fact that I finished by saying "this is wikipedia spreading fake news?" That might be an unpopular thing to say on wikipedia which the bot might pick up on but my comment comes from a place of having a sincere wish for wikipedia editors to think carefully about the current de facto role of wikipedia & its effect, I didn't say it as an 'enemy' of wikipedia.

- Hi Selfstudier, the filter appears to be working properly. Lulu.com is a self-publisher, so books published by it are usually not considered reliable, although there are exceptions, particularly if the author is reputable and an expert on the subject. - Hi YasvinS, although your edit was clearly not vandalism, it does have verifiability issues. On Wikipedia, it is required that all material be supported by a reliable source; unfortunately, being related to someone isn't a good enough method of verifiability. Although you added a lot of material, none of it had an inline citation following it. If you can find a reliable source that supports any of the claims, then the material supported by such a source can be added to the article; however, I'm afraid if a source cannot be found to support a claim it cannot be added to the article. I hope this helps explain things and please let me know if you have any questions. I've also welcomed you on your talk page, providing multiple links that I think you will find useful. - Question: You don't appear to have triggered any edit filters - an interrupted connection is different from an edit filter DannyS712 (talk) 00:32, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- There were actually 3 red filter-warnings: something about unhelpful, then one about removing content, then another unhelpful. I clicked on "false positive" for the middle one because my edit was just about the same length with the exactly the same content as before, just proper English. However I noticed now, when I copied the page name, "Editing Student Oath (Turkey)", it should have said "(section)" and I don't remember it saying that. So replacing the entire article with one of its small sections is actually a useful warning. My dynamic connection is always dropping, and it seemed like a GET or POST of some size actually triggered Comcast dropping and then reinstating the connection, like maybe you'll get tired and not retry after the timeout. Is there a possible cookie problem resulting in a wrong refresh (whats being edited) under those conditions?73.81.149.10 (talk) 06:06, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- I found a filter log entry here—I'm assuming this is you. It does appear that what you said here was correct, and you were inadvertently attempting to replace the entire page with one of the sections. Thus, the filters are working correctly, since replacing the entire article with one section is undesirable. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 06:24, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

- Bacha Bazi (filter log)
- Description
- Bacha Bazi is a pedophilic relationship. For some reason when I try to define it as such Wikipedia blocks it, that is ridiculous. Bacha Bazi involves sexual relations between an older man and a boy, it is by definition a pedophilic relationship. In fact in the exact same article, Pedophilia is mentioned multiple times: "When the Marine suggests that the barracks be searched for children, and that any policeman found to be engaged in pedophilia be arrested and jailed" and here "But the U.S. soldiers have been increasingly troubled that instead of weeding out pedophiles, the U.S. military was arming them against the Taliban and placing them as the police commanders of villages—and doing little when they began abusing children." Also, a source mentions the word pedophiles when describing bacha bazi: Nordland, Rod (January 23, 2018). "Afghan Pedophiles Get Free Pass From U.S. Military, Report Says". The New York Times. Retrieved January 23, 2018.
Also many other websites define bacha bazi as being a pedophilic relationship.
The fact that Bacha Bazi cannot be defined as being a p edophilic relationship on Wikipedia is insane. It makes me thing that pedophilia is being protected from any type of negative stigma that could be attached to it. This needs to change now.

- [[Scotch Bonnet Ridge]] (filter log)
- Description
- I purchased what I thought was an excellent well-researched book on lighthouses of Lake Ontario, published by Trafford Publishing. A robot warned me not to use it, implying Trafford is an unreliable vanity publisher. The robot did not, however, offer any guidiance as to how to find the discussion that lead to Trafford being blacklisted.
I am in no doubt that this book is a reliable source, and I really wonder if it should be proscribed, even if, for the sake of argument, the publisher may also have published some unreliable vanity crap.

I was cleaning up the page, leaving some of the controversial things and removing patently false information. - Not done. You also removed a large part of the article along with your edit. Not sure how that happened, but I see there is another report on this page where the user did something similar, so I hope it's not a bug. In any case, that's a link where people can buy the graphic novel, which isn't appropriate. Book articles do not include, for example, direct links to amazon.com. Furthermore, I've remove that line from the article entirely. It's obvious spam from TikvahCreative, who is obviously somehow connected to Elijah Loving. In general, related works shouldn't be listed unless they already have articles, or are obviously notable enough that they should. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 19:02, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

- Not done You also removed every section except the one you were editing. Do you have any idea how that happened? I assume it wasn't intentional. In any case, information you want to add would need to be reliablly sourced first. change.org is not a reliable source by any means. In fact, it's on the spam blacklist, so it's not even possible to add links to it. Instead, you'd want to find third-party coverage (from reliable news sources, etc.) of the controversy. - @Meerturtle: Honestly, the warning message for this filter could be toned back a bit. Still, iUniverse is a self-publishing house, so you should only cite that source if you are sure the author is recognized expert in the field. See WP:SPS. This filter is really just meant as an "are you sure?" button, but, again, the hostile warning message doesn't make that very clear. I plan on bringing it up, once I can think of a better wording. Thanks for the report. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 18:40, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

added_lines
is blank, and its only the removal of one section (the lede) so I don't think its the bug --DannyS712 (talk) 19:45, 12 May 2019 (UTC)- @DannyS712: It's not the same bug, but since we know that mobile VE's section-editing is borked, it could be related. Or, maybe, they just felt like blanking the first section. Unless this can be reproduced (I'm still trying...), who knows. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 19:49, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
- @DannyS712: I think you're right after all. Dump 1 is all hits to 957 that roughly match what VE has been doing. Dump 2 is what this user was doing (removing the lead and doing nothing else). Dump 1 clearly shows a dramatic increase in hits around May 9, while Dump 2 has been steady for a month. So it's probably unrelated. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 00:37, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Suffusion of Yellow: That is another benefit of being a efh/efm - the testing interface lets you evaluate stuff like that after the fact, rather than needing to have the filter set up beforehand --DannyS712 (talk) 00:38, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
- @DannyS712: Annoyingly, Special:AbuseFilter/test doesn't let you check old filter hits in bulk, only recent changes (and the interface is horrible). To produce those dumps, I downloaded 5000 hits from the API, and ran the checks client-side with a Perl script. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 00:52, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
